The understanding of the concepts of AI is still one of the major problems for companies that want to implementAI solutions, from our own experience. Because of that, we presented an initial version of a morphological box that supports the understanding of AI solutions in previous work [1]. We now evaluated the morphological box with expert interviews from different domains and a short literature search. We present the planning, conduction and analysis of the interviews as well as a refined version of the morphological box for AI solutions. For the analysis we used the approach of qualitative content analysis by Mayring & Fenzl [2]. The interviews helped to identify several new features and values and they offered interesting insights into important aspects for AI introduction and into the introduction process itself from practitioners' perspectives. Furthermore, we illustrate some of the boxes application potential along the information system development process and future improvement and application potentials.

Organizations increasingly use process mining techniques to gain insight into their processes. Process mining techniques can be used to monitor and/or enhance processes. However, the impact of processes on the people involved, in terms of unfair discrimination, has not been studied. Another neglected area is the impact of applying process mining techniques on the fairness of processes. In this paper, we overview and categorize the existing fairness concepts in machine learning. Moreover, we summarize the areas where fairness is relevant to process mining and provide an approach to applying existing fairness definitions in process mining. Finally, we present some of the fairness-related challenges in processes.

The steadily growing number of publications in the field of information systems as well as the confusion arising from the naming of theoretical concepts, complicate the process of literature reviewing. While several knowledge repositories and databases are developed to combat this issue, a considerable amount of manual effort to populate the databases is required. The information these tools seek to present is often compactly summarized in causal models with a graph-like structure (e.g., structural equation models). Our work aims to develop a graph parsing method that reduces the amount of manual effort required and thus builds a foundation towards an augmentation of knowledge extraction from causal models. We contribute to the ongoing efforts in developing graph parsing tools by proposing a novel instance segmentation-based approach that leverages a new method to generate annotated synthetic graph images. Our solution is evaluated on a dataset of 166 images of structural equation models and outperforms existing graph parsing approaches in this use case.

Privacy policies provide users the possibility to get informed about how their data are being used by specific services and vendors. Unfortunately their texts are usually long and users are not devoting the required time to read them and understand their content. Tools that bring the privacy policies closer to the users can assist towards enhancing users’ privacy awareness. In this work, we are presenting the updated version of Privacy Policy Beautifier, our approach and accompanying tool that offers various representations of the privacy policy text, as a way to assist the users in better understanding the policy, devoting less time to explore its main content. Text highlighting, text summarization, word cloud, GDPR terms presence/absence are the techniques employed for the representations. The updated version of Privacy Policy Beautifier has been evaluated for its enhanced features via the participation of 32 users with promising results. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The Impact of Digital Finance on the Operating Performance of Commercial Banks: Promotion or Inhibition? 1

The vigorous development of digital finance has lent fresh impetus to the traditional financial market, and has also had an influence on the business situation. This article uses crawler technology to construct digital finance indicators, and based on the financial data of 42 listed commercial banks from 2011 to 2021, uses the SYS-GMM model to study the impact effect, transmission mechanisms and heterogeneity of digital finance on the operating performance from two dimensions of profitability and risk level. The results show that: First, in terms of linear relationship, digital finance reduces the profitability and increases the risk level of commercial banks;Second, as regards nonlinear relationship, there is a U-shaped relationship between digital finance and the profitability of commercial banks, and an inverted U-shaped relationship with the risk level of commercial banks;Third, digital finance inhibits the operating performance by deteriorating the deposit structure, loan structure and increasing the proportion of non-interest income. Fourth, compared with national commercial banks, the inhibitory influence on the profitability of regional banks is more pronounced, but its impact on risk level is not significantly different. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Exploring the Effect of Intelligent Recommendation Systems on Users’ Emotional Attachment: The Moderating Role of Personality Trait 1

Users’ emotional attachment is the key to promoting their loyalty. However, few studies have explored how to improve users’ emotional attachment in the context of intelligent recommendation systems. To bridge the research gaps, our research mainly uses attachment theory and uses and gratifications theory as our research basis to explore the effect of intelligent recommendation systems (i.e., accuracy, serendipity, and personalization) on users’ emotional attachment. The mediating effect of self-construction (i.e., self-actualization, self-pleasure, and self-expressiveness) and the moderating effect of personality trait are also explored in our research. To examine our theoretical model, we conduct a survey and collect 305 valid questionnaires. The research results show: (1) Accuracy, serendipity, and personalization have positive and significant effect on users’ self-actualization, self-pleasure, and self-expressiveness respectively;(2) Self-pleasure and self-expressiveness are positively associated with users’ emotional attachment, while self-actualization do not have significant effect on users’ emotional attachment;(3) Extraversion has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between personalization and self-expressiveness. However, our research does not find evidence to support the moderating effect of extraversion on the relationship between accuracy and self-actualization as well as the relationship of serendipity and self-pleasure. This study can help developers of intelligent recommendation systems understand users’ continuous usage behavior from the perspective of emotional attachment. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In our fast-paced society, due to the interconnection of millions of devices on the Internet, a great amount of complex data is shared, received, and managed by facilitating communication among users and devices globally. As a result, users from different educational backgrounds and professions are exposed to cyber threats and risks. Current megatrends such as Industry 4.0, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Metaverse, and 6G technology introduce a new era of user experience through strong connectivity, and costless service with high adaptability, however, it raises major data privacy and security concerns. These trends can ameliorate people’s lives;however, they are characterized as "attractive vulnerable targets" for cyber-attacks with high intent to harm and disrupt people’s daily lives. This paper focuses on two main pillars: the privacy and security fundamental challenges of the synergy between the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Cloud which creates the Internet of Cloud (IoC) and the need of raising awareness to prevent violation of user’s data on the IoC. The rapid advancements in Web 2.0 applications and artificial intelligence (AI) have significantly influenced the educational domain, introducing novel challenges for both educators and learners in online learning contexts. By continually learning and adopting innovative teaching methods, educators can cultivate enhanced learning experiences and collaboration between teachers and students. Effective strategies for delivering course content in online environments can further contribute to students’ satisfaction and in-depth understanding of the subject matter. This article aims to present a framework for educators to improve interaction with students, grounded in pertinent e-learning literature and supported by institutional research as it discusses the results of a pilot project designed to stimulate learning by tailoring it to students’ individual needs and maximizing the advantages of visual technologies in the learning process through gamification. Six courses on various subjects were developed, but this article focuses solely on a computer science course. The outcomes indicate visible improvements in student academic performance and satisfaction and that is to be seen over a comparison on two groups of students – with the second group beneficiating by a new way of delivering course materials. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Blockchain technology is a decentralized and distributed ledger that allows for secure, transparent, and immutable tracking of transactions. However, it is not a one-size-fits-all solution for addressing trust issues in the supply chain. In software engineering, design patterns provide a blueprint that developers can follow to solve a specific problem in a structured and efficient manner. In this paper, we identify and discuss the reusable blockchain software patterns that can be applied to design trustworthy solutions in supply chain management (SCM). Based on the literature analysis, we define a comprehensive taxonomy of SCM-specific trust issues. News can distribute in many forms across social networks in a fragmented media landscape. Misinformation, such as conspiracy theories, can reach people on social media, leading them into polarized spaces. The consequences of this polarization can be a loss of trust in the media and the perception of news that only reflects one’s true or false beliefs. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, these beliefs could be that wearing masks is unnecessary. Scientific questions are often politicized and subjected to polarized discussions on social media. Yet, it needs to be clarified to what extent these public health questions are used for political purposes by partisan news channels. This study analyzed 13 ideologically diverse news channels, 11,293 news headlines, and 413,583 user-generated comments on the media coverage concerning COVID-19 on the YouTube platform. For method, wordfish is used to find identity ideology and polarisation and sentiment analysis is used for finding polarization. Results show that textual video information throughout most news channels on YouTube was hardly marked by ideological polarization, except on the Fox News channel. Furthermore, ideological polarization was more pronounced within the comment sections of those news channels and was characterized strongly by negative emotions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
