In this paper we present a tool for adaptive process log generation and analysis of the correlation between KPI (Key Performance Indicator) values and changes in adaptive processes. The tool features a component called Next(Log) helping users to generate initial business process logs using any preferred method and subsequently allows them to adapt these logs based on their own defined rules while ensuring an intuitive and coherent user interface. The adapted logs are then used for log analysis with the *** component, which employs machine learning techniques to find patterns of matching KPI values and adaptation injections in the logs. The tool therefore supports the research on the challenges imposed by the lack of sufficient amount of data from adaptive process logs and the open issues in identifying at what KPIs values changes are required and what kind of changes would have the best impact on the process performance at run time.

The increasing adoption of IoT in the context of business Process Management (BPM) makes it necessary to efficiently coordinate concurrent processes and activities that involve physical resources. Traditional approaches to handling concurrency in BPM systems are not suitable for automating IoT-aware processes due to novel challenges raised by the IoT. We propose to handle concurrency in IoT based on object-centric processes implemented in the PHILharmonicFlows framework. The framework facilitates the data-driven modeling and coordination of object lifecycles and interactions, which are suitable to address concurrency in IoT-aware processes. The approach is demonstrated in a scenario from smart manufacturing. The results show that PHILharmonicFlows offers a flexible and comprehensible solution for coordinating concurrent activities in IoT settings with constrained physical resources.

Health-tech startups are essential, as they provide cutting-edge solutions to numerous healthcare concerns in the rapidly evolving healthcare industry. They use various technologies to create solutions that boost and advance healthcare systems and healthcare delivery. Open-source software (OSS) technology has become an essential component of startups' toolkits, providing various advantages, such as free access to source codes and opportunities for innovation. Research on OSS in healthcare startups is limited, so our study aims to investigate how healthtech startups perceive the influence of OSS on product development and to identify the challenges they face. To meet this objective, we conducted an empirical study with six health-tech startups, using semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysiswas performed on the collected data to identify common themes and subthemes related to the research objective. The findings showed that health-tech startups benefit from the cost efficiency, scalability, and customization of OSS. Open-source software tools, reshape development and promote efficient code management, provide community support, and reduce costs. However, they demand OSS knowledge, management of updates, regulatory compliance, and heightened cybersecurity. Our study adds to the body of knowledge on OSS and healthcare startups and the connection between them. We provide recommendations for health-tech startups, such as embracing OSS tools for their benefits, investing in education and training, and engaging with the OSS community for comprehensive support in their product development processes.

In the new era of the digital economy, traditional manufacturing firms are stepping up their digital transformation to remain competitive. Digital transformation might impact firm performance, resulting in a need to investigate the complex relationships between firm performance and various conditions in digital transformation. Based on resource orchestration theory (ROT), this study provided a configurational analysis of the multiple paths of organizational capability (i.e., innovation capability), organizational resources (i.e., relational resources and regional resources), and organizational characteristics (i.e., firm size and digital transformation strategy) to achieve high firm performance using a mix of fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) and Necessary Conditions Analysis (NCA) methodologies. Using data from listed companies in China's manufacturing industry, the findings identify six configurations that generate high firm performance, demonstrating the diversity in the mechanisms achieving high firm performance in Chinese-listed manufacturing firms, which can guide the implementation of digital transformation in the manufacturing industry.

Digital twin platforms enable the creation, management, and analysis of digital twins. However, most of the available platforms are distributed as proprietary software. Considering that available digital twin platforms often generate from former IoT platforms and that visualization and simulation are among the main characteristics of digital twins, we present an extension we developed to the ThingsBoard open-source IoT platform to support the design and development of 3D simulations. Here, we describe such a simulation mechanism and its application on a smart classroom use case. Our work represents a first step towards an open-source digital twin platform.

In recent years, short video e-commerce has rapidly developed due to its characteristics such as vividness, simplicity, and accessibility of information. Many merchants and short video platforms have actively engaged in short video e-commerce. However, there still exists fundamental differences in the information processing dimension between short video e-commerce and traditional e-commerce, which requires in-depth exploration. This study, based on push-pull-mooring theory, explores the factors and mechanisms influencing consumers' switching intention from traditional e-commerce to short video e-commerce from the perspective of information processing. The research results indicate that overload confusion, virtual touch, vicarious learning, and online consumer inertia influence the switching intention by affecting perceived value or customer satisfaction. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of the motives behind consumer switching for short video platforms and merchants. The understanding assists platforms to optimize e-commerce functions and merchants to implement differentiated operations for different e-commerce channels.

Data markets offer a way for organizations to trade data products with each other. Data in data products typically ranges from carefully formatted raw data to comprehensive insights for business decision-making. However, the lack of trust between data sellers and buyers makes transactions in the data markets challenging. The agreements regarding the quality of the data offered and consumed must be established and automatically enforced. This work proposes a smart contract-based framework to enable peer-to-peer value exchange in data markets while enforcing consensus between data sellers and buyers on data quality. We developed the framework using the design science research methodology and implemented it using Solidity. The implementation was deployed and tested on the Ethereum blockchain platform. Moreover, we used semi-structured interviews with experts to validate and refine the proposed data transaction protocol.

Online healthcare has enormous potential in optimizing the allocation of medical resources and alleviating the shortage of medical resources in China. As providers of medical services and knowledge on online healthcare platforms, doctors' active contributions are key to the long-term development of these platforms. To incentivize doctors to contribute online, an increasing number of online healthcare platforms are introducing gamification mechanisms. However, it is currently unclear whether and how gamification impacts doctors' online contributions. To investigate this research question, this study built an empirical model based on self-determination theory and social exchange theory. Data from doctors in China's largest online medical platform were collected to validate the impact of gamified achievements on their online contributions. Our findings reveal that doctors' gamified achievements on the platform have a significant positive impact on their online contributions;external rewards received by doctors on the platform (economic and reputation rewards) mediate the relationship between doctors' gamified achievements and their online contributions. Furthermore, this study confirms that doctors' professional status can moderate the relationship between external rewards received by doctors and their online contributions. The results of this study can help us better understand the functions of gamification, provide insights for optimizing the operations of online healthcare platforms, enhancing doctors' understanding of platform mechanisms, and assisting patients in making better decisions when selecting doctors.

This short paper positions my doctoral research within the field of information systems, and, more specifically, to the EDOC community in preparation for the doctoral symposium. The research topic of my doctoral research is the design and implementation of Intelligence Amplification (IA) applications. Although extensively researched, there is no consensus in literature regarding the definition of IA, design knowledge is scattered across disciplines, and no routine design exists for IA applications. Therefore, the main aim of my doctoral research is two-fold to (1) establish a knowledge base for IA, as a foundation to (2) develop a design and action theory for IA. The knowledge base will be developed using established design science research methodologies and frameworks. Design knowledge regarding IA will be identified, analysed, and synthesized based on a systematic literature review using the PRISMA 2020 statement. The knowledge base will serve as a foundation for the design and action theory for IA. Action design research will be utilized to iteratively develop and evaluate an IA design method and practical design tools to help professionals and practitioners design and implement IA applications in the context of Industry 5.0 and Society 5.0.

The popularity of microservices has increased over the past decade due to their potential benefits for distributed enterprise applications. Developing and maintaining a microservices architecture (MSA) is challenging, amongst others because the size (granularity) of the microservices has an impact on most system properties, such as, e.g., maintainability, performance, and scalability. Currently, architects determine the granularity of the microservices by identifying bounded contexts or business capabilities, which is mainly based on their experience. This paper presents a quantitative assessment method to evaluate the granularity of the microservices for improved system maintainability. The method is based on a set of metrics that are relevant for maintainability, namely change coupling, structural coupling, weighted service interface count, lines of code, service interface data cohesion, and change frequency. By evaluating these metrics, focusing on coupling, cohesion, and size, the method can assess refactors of an architecture in which microservices are merged or decomposed. We validated our method with three open source microservice-based projects with different sizes and structures. Our method can substantiate the design decisions concerning the granularity of microservices, identifying services that are candidates for merging and decomposition towards maintainability evolution, with clear benefits particularly for enterprise applications.
