In digital environment, generating reports is an integral part of any business, and therefore there is a huge need for a tool for creating complex adaptive reports in investment, marketing activities, financial projects etc. The purpose of the paper is to formulate the requirements for GPL for the creation of custom reports in different business areas and build a software product that will use it. We have researched the possibilities of creating a universal language for building complex reports that is flexible enough to be used in any business domain. We have also identified the main requirements for such a language and the software product that would utilize it. We have paid particular attention to the peculiarities and problems associated with the creation and use of such a language, and have proposed ways to address them. As an experiment, we have created a prototype software module using a language based on mathematical formulas. The developed module can be used both for reports and for any calculations of companies engaged in product and business analytics. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Overprocessing is a source of waste that occurs when unnecessary work is performed in a process. Overprocessing is often found in application-to-approval processes since a rejected application does not add value, and thus, work that leads to the rejection constitutes overprocessing. Analyzing how the knock-out checks are executed can help analysts to identify opportunities to reduce overprocessing waste and time. This paper proposes an interpretable process mining approach for discovering improvement opportunities in the knock-out checks and recommending redesigns to address them. Experiments on synthetic and real-life event logs show that the approach successfully identifies improvement opportunities while attaining a performance comparable to black-box approaches. Moreover, by leveraging interpretable machine learning techniques, our approach provides further insights on knock-out check executions, explaining to analysts the logic behind the suggested redesigns. The approach is implemented as a software tool and its applicability is demonstrated on a real-life process. © 2023, The Author(s).

The issue of information overload is becoming increasingly prevalent in society and the workplace, with the widespread use of digital technologies and big data. However, this phenomenon has led to negative effects at the organizational level, such as time loss, decreased efficiency, and poor employee health, among others. In academic literature, information overload is part of a new research trend in information systems management (MSI), known as the "dark side of IT," which focuses on studying the negative effects of organizational use of ICT to propose solutions. Thus, our research objective explores the role of software tools and their features as coping strategies in response to information overload. Specifically, we want to study the features and uses of software tools used by managers to reduce their information overload. The literature on information overload identifies its determinants, consequences, and mechanisms for alleviation. Research on alleviation mechanisms, particularly on the role of tools, is still in its early stages and deserves greater attention. This research is important because it addresses the call from the information systems research community for the urgent need to promote healthy management of the interaction between humans and technologies and its implications for workplace health. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Effective analysis of users’ demand is critical for developing an intelligent service platform for rural tourism. In this study, the Kano model and Better-Worse satisfaction index analysis method are used to analyze the demand hierarchy of various information services. A rural tourism intelligent information service system with 30 services has been built using the five dimensions of cultural travel service, information service, map navigation guide, independent shopping mall, and community service. It is suggested that when providing intelligent information services for rural tourism, the level of user demand for services should be fully considered, and that construction should be carried out in a targeted and phased manner. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Virtual KOL (Key Opinion Leader) is gradually gaining acceptance as a new form of marketing. In this study, we investigate the influence of virtual KOL and real KOL on consumers’ purchase intentions in different product types (search goods and experience goods) concerning the SOR model and using perceived trust and consumer identification as mediating variables. We collected 248 valid data through questionnaires and used SPSS and Process model 4 to conduct regression and mediation analysis to test the hypothesis. This study identifies for the first time the emerging marketing approach of virtual KOLs and examines the differences in marketing effectiveness and mechanisms of action between real and virtual KOLs. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The emergence of digital multi-sided platforms has disrupted day-to-day business in many industries. Nowadays, many small businesses participate in digital platform (DP) ecosystems and act as value creators or complementors. Investigating the small business perspective does not have a rich tradition in platform research yet. In response, this paper presents a systematic literature review (SLR) analyzing the thematic points of focus and highlighting new avenues for information systems and small business research. We find that objectives related to digital transformation, digital strategy- and business model-development, and DP adoption are fundamental topics in the conjunction of small business and DP ecosystems. Based on the findings, an agenda for future research is developed, including propositions for practice-oriented and human-centered approaches fostering sustilience, innovation capabilities and digital leadership competencies in small businesses facing DP ecosystem participation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Academic literature contains many different types of data, including language, citations, figures, tables, etc. Released in 2017 for natural language processing, the Transformer model is widely used in fields as diverse as image processing and network science. Transformer models trained on large datasets have been shown to perform well on different tasks when trained on additional small amounts of new data. Most studies of classification and regression in the academic literature have designed individually customized features for specific tasks without fully considering data interactions. Customizing features for each task is costly and complex. This paper addresses this issue by proposing a basic framework that can be consistently applied to various tasks from the diverse information in academic literature. Specifically, we propose an end-to-end fusion method that combines linguistic and citation information of academic literature data utilizing two Transformer models. The experiments were conducted using a dataset on 67 disciplines extracted from the Web of Science, one of the largest databases about academic literature, and classified papers with the top 20% of citations five years after publication. The results show that the proposed method improves the F-measure by 0.028 compared to using only citation or linguistic information on average. Repeated experiments on 67 data sets also showed that the proposed model has the smallest standard deviation of F values. In other words, our proposed method shows the best average performance and is stable with a small variance of the F-value. We also conducted a comparative analysis between the dataset’s characteristics and the proposed method’s performance. The results show that our proposed method correlates poorly with the dataset’s characteristics. In other words, our proposed method is highly versatile. Rapid developments in technology around the world require continuous efforts in academia to develop innovative solutions to enhance the learning of basic and advanced programming concepts. Educators understand the value of preparing highly skilled programmers to join the industry, and this puts a responsibility to develop and enhance teaching techniques in order to get better results, especially in introductory courses where novice programmers face difficulties in understanding basic programming concepts. Serious games were proven to be effective, motivational and beneficial for novice programmers to support them during their learning journey. In this paper, we investigate the issues that students face when learning arrays and based on that, we design and implement Space Geeks, a serious game targeted at teaching arrays for novice programmers. We discuss the design principles used to develop Space Geeks, and we test and evaluate the game in an educational environment. Our findings show that Space Geeks, our developed serious game, is promising to help novice programmers improve in learning basic programming concepts, due to its ease of use and ease of understanding. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The Influence of the Thematic Coherency of CSR Activities on Users’ Purchase Intention on E-Commerce Platforms 1

Digital technology has reshaped the business landscape, E-Commerce platform enterprises are becoming a new organizational vehicle, and their social responsibility has attracted extensive discussions. However, most of the existing studies focused on the connotation, boundaries, lack of responsibility and alienation motives and management countermeasures of CSR in e-commerce platform enterprises, and little research has clearly pointed out whether e-commerce platform enterprises should choose to focus on a fixed theme to carry out high coherence CSR activities or invest in diversified themes to carry out low coherence CSR activities, and whether different coherence CSR activities will have different effects on users’ purchase intention. Drawing on the social identity theory and SOR theory, the present research develops the underlying mechanism through which thematic consistency of CSR activities influences the purchase intention by including consumer-company identification as a mediator. A theoretical model proposed to describe the hypothesized relationships was tested by the method of questionnaire survey and experiment. The results shown that consumer-company identification partially mediates the relationship between thematic coherency and users’ purchase intention and that the theme coherency of CSR activities of e-commerce platform firms has a favorable influence on users’ buy intention. The results point to the need for e-commerce platform companies to implement thematic coherence strategies in order to stimulate consumers’ more favorable purchasing intents and to achieve the best possible thematic coherence strategies for social responsibility initiatives. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Due to the increasing collection of highly interconnected and complex datasets, Labeled Property Graphs are gaining importance in extracting meaningful information for decision support. In addition, UML Class Diagrams are still a commonly used modeling technique for representing the main concepts of a domain. Although there are several model-to-model transformation approaches, these are mainly focused on moving from class diagrams to relational databases. Less work has been done on transforming class diagrams into labeled property graphs. This work constitutes a step forward in filling this gap by i) using a method that defines a set of patterns to improve the transformation process from class diagrams to labeled property graphs, considering the analytical requirements of a domain, and ii) proposing a technological system as an instantiation of the method, demonstrating its feasibility and enabling the assessment of its suitability. This system is grounded in a collection of templates for specifying the domain concepts and a library of transformation rules and patterns, and was evaluated using a widely known dataset exhibiting the proposed model-to-model transformation approach. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
