An increasing number of rewarded crowdfunding platforms recommend that fundraisers post multimodal data to improve data diversity and attract investors’ attention. Project speech contains both textual modality (text) and acoustic modality (voice) data. This study aims to explore how linguistic style of the speech text and acoustic features of the speech voice influence the crowdfunding campaign performance from the perspective of emotional contagion. An econometric model to investigate the effects of emotional cues from fundraisers’ speech on rewarded crowdfunding performance is constructed, and an empirical analysis with 21996 projects data in Kickstarter is conducted. The findings demonstrate that both acoustic emotional cues (voice pitch and speech rate) and textual emotional cues (intimate and perceptual language) have significant positive effect on the financing performance, while voice intensity is negatively related to financing performance. This investigation provides both theoretical implications for the literature of crowdfunding and practical implications for fundraisers. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) continuously paves its way into even the most traditional business domains. This particularly applies to data-driven AI, like machine learning (ML). Several data-driven approaches like CRISP-DM and KKD exist that help develop and engineer new ML-enhanced solutions. A new breed of approaches, often called canvas-driven or visual ideation approaches, extend the scope by a perspective on the business value an ML-enhanced solution shall enable. In this paper, we reflect on two recent ML projects. We show that the data-driven and canvas-driven approaches cover only some necessary information for developing and operating ML-enhanced solutions. Consequently, we propose to put ML into an enterprise context for which we sketch a first framework and spark the role enterprise modeling can play. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Due to the significant advancements in virtual reality (VR) technologies over the years, more research has been done on how these technologies could promote more effective communication in social applications to enhance collaboration and social connectivity. Most studies about social VR conducted experimental tasks in different communication contexts to evaluate communication quality, which has limited relevance to the VR industries and ambiguous generalizability of findings outside of lab settings. This study tries to solve this problem by conducting a case study on one of the most popular commercial social VR applications to understand what factors impact consumers’ user experience in social VR applications. We used the Structural Topic Model (STM) based text mining of VRChat’s steam reviews to explore topics that users discuss and classified the topics into four clusters, including avatars and behaviors, complaints, hardware and connection, and recommendation. This paper explored the information anxiety of community residents in different prevention and control states from the perspective of information tasks, and provided suggestions on information service for future public health emergency. Through in-depth interviews, the information anxiety scale of community residents in five prevention and control states was constructed. The information tasks and information anxiety of residents in each prevention and control state were investigated through questionnaires, and the differences and causes were analyzed. Our research found that information anxiety was highest when residents were isolated at home, and lowest when they were in centralized isolation. The anxiety of information environment, information quality and quantity were the highest in the case of home isolation and community isolation. The highest degree of information anxiety due to the heaviest burden of information tasks in home isolation, and there is a positive correlation between the two. Residents’ information anxiety is positively correlated with the proportion of material/life tasks, and is negatively correlated with the proportion of daily epidemic notification tasks. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Data is the raw material of digitization, but its economic use and potential economic benefits are not always clear. Therefore, we would like to show that the processing of data, especially according to FAIR principles, plays an enormous role in enabling business models and improving existing business models. This is being tested within the EU funded project Marispace-X, part of the Gaia-X initiative. The maritime domain in particular currently still suffers from a lack of digitization: while as much data is being collected as ever before, this data is often kept in silos and hardly reused or even shared. This work therefore involved linking the FAIR principles to a data value chain, which together with business model dimensions form a data value matrix. This application of this matrix was carried out together with practice partners using the example of maritime data processing in the use case "offshore wind" and can be used and adapted as an analysis tool for data-driven business models. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

More and more enterprises promote their products by publishing short videos on social platforms, but not all short video marketing can achieve the expected results. There are many factors that affect the marketing effect. This study aims to explore how the narration of short video, especially the story plot, impress consumers to realize marketing goals, on the basis of Narrative Transportation Theory. In this study, 402 sample questionnaires were collected and the model was verified by structural equation model. The conclusion shows that the six factors affect advertising attitude and product attitude through narrative transportation. Natural language processing (NLP) has emerged as a significant area of research within the field of artificial intelligence, receiving increased attention in recent years, which has prompted the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation to launch a project aimed at finding international funding opportunities for Brazilian researchers through its Research Financing Products Portfolio. However, the challenge of classification in this context is exacerbated by the scarcity of high-quality labeled data, which is a requirement for state-of-the-art NLP implementations. In this study, we employ machine learning strategies to classify long, unstructured, and irregular texts obtained by scraping funding institutions’ websites. Given the limited availability of labeled training data, we adopt an incremental approach to identify a suitable method with optimal performance. In order to alleviate the challenge of data scarcity, we use pre-training technology to learn word context from other data sets with significant similarities and larger scales. Then, we combine transfer learning with deep learning models to enhance sentence comprehension. We also conduct pre-processing experiments to address text irregularities. Comparative analysis with the baseline model reveals that our proposed approach yields promising results, with most trained models achieving over 90% accuracy. Our Longformer + CNN model has achieved 94% accuracy with 100% precision, while the Word2Vec + CNN model has achieved 93.55% accuracy. Citation screening is a crucial stage in conducting a Systematic Literature Review, where reviewers must read hundreds, if not thousands, of papers. Natural Language processing-based models using Transformers have been successfully employed to automate this process and minimize the chances of missing relevant papers. In our research, we proposed three variations of these Transformer models, each with different pre-training techniques. With our models, reviewers only need to read 16 papers to train the model, thus saving as much as 80 % of the workload. In addition, we revisited the AWSS@R metric, which normalized the WSS@R index and provided a fair way to estimate the workload saved using the different datasets. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The Effect of Changes in Interest Rate Regulation on the Financial Performance of Banks in Kenya 1

The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of changes in interest rate regulation on the financial performance of banks in Kenya. Using a panel dataset of 78 banks in East Africa comprising 1,278 observations over the period 2004–2019, we employ difference-in-difference methodology on accounting and market value measures of financial performance. Two-step generalised method of moments, is used as the estimation technique to address the problem of endogeneity, commonly found in panel data. The results, which are robust for endogeneity and other checks reveal that introduction of interest rate caps in Kenya significantly increased the profitability of banks. This increase can likely be attributed to increase in non-interest income and reduction in operating expenses. On the contrary, the impact on publicly listed banks was insignificant. The study has the potential to inform policy makers in the East Africa region on the effects of interest rate regulation. High lending interest rates has seen some countries such as Kenya impose interest rate caps and subsequently repealed. Other countries such as Uganda were in the process of considering rate caps but have deferred the decision. The study is perhaps the first to examine the effect of changes in interest rate regulation on the financial performance of countries in the East African region. The authors also employ difference-in-difference methodology and two-step generalised method of moments estimation (GMM) in the study which is different from previous studies. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Research on the Influence of Anchors’ Characteristics on Consumers’ Impulse Buying from the Perspective of Emotional Contagion 1

Based on the S-O-R model, the structural equation model is constructed to study the driving mechanism of the e-commerce anchors’ characteristics on consumers’ impulse buying behavior, and to further explore whether the audience activity plays a moderating role in it. Through the empirical analysis of 327 valid data, the results showed that the similarity, attraction, professionalism and interactivity of anchors all have significant positive effects on consumers’ pleasure emotions. Among them, similarity, attraction and professionalism positively affect the impulsive buying behavior of consumers through the mediating effect of pleasure emotion. Audience activity negatively moderates the influence of similarity and attraction on consumers’ pleasure emotion. Now, anchors not only need to further improve their work skills, but also need to build more attractive live broadcast room according to their own characteristics to attract the attention of consumers and stimulate them to buy products, which is particularly important for the live broadcast rooms with low audience activity. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
