Inner source software development is the use of open source development's best practices inside a company. In inner source, developers collaborate on reusable software components across company-internal organizational silo boundaries for mutual benefit. As such, inner source goes against the grain of traditional management techniques. In this article, we present two conceptual models of management accounting for inner source. We derived these prototypes by performing a literature review and triangulating the results with interviews of industry practitioners. We demonstrate how the conceptual models can be used for monitoring and controlling inner source projects and to determine their future viability.

Process mining techniques transfer historical data of organizations into knowledge for the purpose of process improvement. Most of the existing process mining techniques are "backward-looking" and provide insights w.r.t. historical event data. Foreseeing the future of processes and capturing the effects of changes without applying them to the real processes are of high importance. Current simulation techniques that benefit from process mining insights are either at detailed levels, e.g., Discrete Event Simulation (DES), or at aggregated levels, e.g., System Dynamics (SD). System dynamics represents processes at a higher degree of aggregation and accounts for the influence of external factors on the process. In this paper, we propose an approach for simulating business processes that combines both types of data-driven simulation techniques to generate holistic simulation models of processes. These techniques replicate processes at various levels and for different purposes, yet they both present the same process. SD models are used for strategical what-if analysis, whereas DES models are used for operational what-if analysis. It is critical to consider the effects of strategical decisions on detailed processes. We introduce a framework integrating these two simulation models, as well as a proof of concept to demonstrate the approach in practice.

In recent years, the increasing market pressure and disruption have driven firms to undertake digital transformations to create value and deliver better products for customers. Large corporations frequently face difficulties to digitalize their internal processes. They have well-established and mature routines that are hard to change. By contrast, startups are recognized for their innovation capacity and agile processes. In the quest for speed and innovation, corporations are engaging with startups to match complementary goals. Corporations desire the creative potential of startups, while startups need resources that are plentiful in corporations. This paper explores how open innovation is performed from the perspective of startups and corporations. We conducted an exploratory interview study at eight startups and five corporations to understand the dynamics of their relationships during open innovation initiatives. Our results reveal themain drivers, benefits, and challenges involved in the engagement between startups and corporations. Finally, we present a set of recommendations to foster startup-corporation relationships.

business process modeling is essential for organisations. However, it is a time-consuming task that requires expert knowledge. In particular, this is the case when modeling domain-specific processes, which often involves the consistent use of technical terminology. Process modelers can be supported through the provision of recommendations on how the model under development can be expanded. Activity recommendation is one such support approach, in which suitable activities to be inserted at a user-defined position are recommended. Recently, it has been suggested to treat activity recommendation as a knowledge graph completion task and to apply methods from this discipline. In this paper, we investigate different approaches to apply embedding- and rule-based knowledge graph completion methods out of the box and evaluate them in an experimental study. Additionally, we compare them to two methods that have specifically been designed for activity recommendation.

Technological innovation is still a challenge for SMEs in emerging countries, mainly due to the lack of financial, structural, capital, and proper managerial resources. Covid-19 presented a scenario that increased difficulties for companies, especially of this kind, and at the same time presented a necessitydriven impulse to look for innovative solutions. This study aimed to analyze the drivers of technological innovations of SMEs of the Caribbean Region, during what was considered locally the most critical period of covid-19 pandemic. Data was obtained from ICONOS program, a local government initiative that support the systemic development of innovations and support to consolidate organizational and regional competitive advantage. Asample of 28 innovation projects - in which 11 are already active and functional - was considered, using coding to establish the main relations and topics emerging from the different proposals. Results show covid-19was considered both as an antecedent and as a parameter for market orientation, suggesting a rapid response from these companies when facing economic and social changes. Healthcare, education, and agriculture were found as key sectors. Potential competitive advantages were designed on three major aspects: usability, accessibility, and sustainability. The majority of the cases presented a market pull innovation flow, predominantly focusing on covid-19 related needs and consequent solutions.

Online shopping has gained much popularity over the past decade. Indeed, in a post-COVID world, online shopping is the only medium of shopping for many. A great deal of research effort has been devoted to understanding the factors that positively or negatively influence online shopping behavior of consumers. However, most of these influence relationships have been studied individually, and not how such factors interrelate with each other and thus the underlying complex driving and dependence relationships among those factors are unknown. Moreover, these underlying driving and dependence relationships among online shopping behavior factors can be highly dependent on the cultural context of the consumers. In this research we identify the key factors that have been shown to have influence on online shopping behavior from a rigorous review of literature. We then apply an Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) technique to find the underlying complex hierarchical relations of factors related to Australian and Chinese culture. We apply MICMAC analysis to find the driving and dependence power of these factors in context of these two cultures. We finally explain the differences and similarities found for Australian and Chinese culture with reference to Hofstede's Cross Culture theory. Prominent findings include timeliness of delivery and order accuracy is considered having high dependence and driving power in the Australian context but has low driving and dependence power in Chinese context. Our findings will be beneficial for including better cultural context factors into future online shopping platform design.

Due to technical advances, old ways for securing DevOps software development have become obsolete. Thus, researchers and practitioners need new insights into the security challenges and practices of DevOps development. This paper reviews the data extraction and analysis phase and results of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) study that was carried out in 2019. The outcome is an updated list of security challenges and practices for DevOps software development. Both reviews shows that the most essential challenges for the DevOps security deal with the complexity of the development pipelines and the overall complexity of the cloud and microservice environments. The security activities identified were classified by using the BSIMM maturity model for software security as a framework. Our review shows that DevOps security research focuses mostly on deployment phase and technical aspects of software security. We compared the security activities identified in our study with the ones identified by the BSIMM development company in their 2020 review of 128 practitioners' security practices and found matching practices and similar trends.

The smart city concept represents an integrated approach for mitigating the challenges resulting from ongoing urbanization by synergizing technology, data, and citizens in a sustainable manner. Smart mobility is an important aspect of a smarty city with intelligent traffic management as one of its key enablers that can contribute to making cities more attractive for living. In this article we focus on data-driven applications for traffic management and develop a new instrument for their evaluation, sharing insights from a municipal project. Drawing on digital business research, evaluation models and expertise from traffic management, we develop criteria and apply them to a Weighted Sum Model, an established modeling technique. As a result, we obtain an easy-to-use instrument for evaluating data-driven applications that can also be adjusted to other contexts. Therefore, both our instrument and the process we employed in its development can support future smart city initiatives in their instrument development and evaluation process.

Various process mining techniques exist, e.g., techniques that automatically discover a descriptive model of the execution of a process, based on event data. Whereas the premise of process mining is clear, i.e., as witnessed by the tremendous growth of the field, data quality issues often hamper the direct applicability of process mining techniques. Several authors have studied data quality issues in process mining, yet, these works primarily propose data pre-processing techniques. An overarching study of the nature of data quality issues, the types of available techniques, and the general possibilities of (semi)-automated outlier/noise detection methods is missing. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a first attempt to structure and study the field of outlier/noise detection in process mining and understand to what degree knowledge on noise and outliers from other domains could advance the process mining field. We do so by answering three central research questions, covering various aspects related to (semi)-automated outlier/noise detection.

Fantasy Sports are becoming more and more popular these days, hence the race to crack it is more trending than ever. In this paper, we focus on cricket (IPL) and Dream11. Using advanced statistical and graphical models, and new performance metrics for batting and bowling we aim to build a model that can predict the top performing 11 players out of the two teams. This involves predicting the player performance and selecting the best 11 while complying with league constraints. The proposed model on an average predicts 70% of the players from the Dream Team.
