Creativity is a common aspect of business processes and thus needs a proper representation through process modeling notations. However, creative processes constitute highly flexible process elements, as new and unforeseeable outcome is developed. This presents a challenge for modeling languages. Current methods representing creative-intensive work are rather less able to capture creative specifics which are relevant to successfully run and manage these processes. We outline the concept of creative-intensive processes and present an example from a game design process in order to derive critical process aspects relevant for its modeling. Six aspects are detected, with first and foremost: process flexibility, as well as temporal uncertainty, experience, types of creative problems, phases of the creative process and individual criteria. By first analyzing what aspects of creative work modeling notations already cover, we further discuss which modeling extensions need to be developed to better represent creativity within business processes. We argue that a proper representation of creative work would not just improve the management of those processes, but can further enable process actors to more efficiently run these creative processes and adjust them to better fit to the creative needs.

Dealing with imperfect temporal data entries in the context of Collective and Personal Memory applications is an imperative matter. Data are structured semantically using an ontology called "Collective Memo Onto". In this paper, we propose an approach that handles temporal data imperfections in OWL 2. We reduce to four types of imperfection defined in our typology of temporal data imperfections which are imprecision, uncertainty, simultaneously uncertainty and imprecision and conflict. The approach consists of representing imperfect quantitative and qualitative time intervals and time points by extending the 4D-fluents approach and defining new components, as well as reasoning about the handled data by extending the Allen's Interval algebra. Based on both extensions, we propose an OWL 2 ontology named "TimeOntoImperfection". The proposed qualitative temporal relations are inferred via a set of 924 SWRL rules. We validate our work by implementing a prototype based on the proposed ontology and we apply it in the context of the Collective Memory Temporal Data.

The global pandemic, caused by the spread of COVID-19, has altered the way people go shopping. In light of this, Social Media channels are an important means of sharing information about goods and services, and different kinds of brands. Since these channels are of considerable market significance, the authors of this paper decided to describe the results of a survey on how to use Social Media to improve customer relationship management processes in 31 companies. The focus was on digital marketing for micro and small businesses. In addition, an in-depth analysis was conducted of four companies, to determine the challenges and strategies in social customer relationship management adopted by micro and small businesses. The results show that this is still a new policy for micro and small companies, but has a great potential to boost sales, enhance customer loyalty and increase brand awareness. The lessons learned can assist policymakers in taking more suitable measures for strengthening this market sector.

Hotelling-Downs model is a classic model of political competition and strategizing candidates, almost always analyzed under plurality. Our paper presents a three-pronged development of the Hotelling-Downs model. First, we analyze competition under a variety of voting rules. Second, we consider not only a linear city model, but also a circular city model. Third, unlike most Hotelling-Downs papers, we solve the model under the winner-takes-all assumption, which saves many equilibria, and is more relevant to voting settings. In the case of three and four candidates we have found a measure of the set of equilibria.

Various equilibrium concepts such as Nash, general meta-rationality (GMR), sequential stability (SEQ), and so on, help anticipate different results of a conflict. In the Prisoner Dilemma (PD) game, for example, some players can choose not to cooperate (just as the Nash equilibrium anticipates) or they can choose to cooperate;perhaps this is because they fear others' counteraction (just asGMRanticipates). In any case, the actual players' choice is to select one of mode of rationality, such as Nash, GMR, or even other types of rationalities, on their own. The objective of this paper is to propose a new model that explains how such rationality is selected endogenously within the game (when such selection itself makes another game because the result depends also on other players' choice). Applying the convergence theory of procedural choice into the context of such equilibrium selection, we first model the meta-level selection of equilibria (which equilibrium players stand on to choose which equilibrium players stand on to choose their actions). Then, we apply the model to two typical games: PD game (cooperation matters) and Hi-Lo game (coordination matters). In both cases, we give a new explanation of why cooperation/coordination is possible within the conflicts.

Legal contracts have been used for millennia to conduct business transactions world-wide. Such contracts are expressed in natural language, and usually come in written form. We are interested in producing formal specifications from such legal text that can be used to formally analyze contracts, also serve as launching pad for generating smart contracts, information systems that partially automate, monitor and control the execution of legal contracts. We have been developing a method for transforming legal contract documents into specifications, adopting a semantic approach where transformation is treated as a text classification, rather than a natural language processing problem. The method consists of five steps that (a) Identify domain terms in the contract and manually disambiguate them when necessary, in consultation with stakeholders;(b) Semantically annotate text identifying obligations, powers, contracting parties, assets and situations;(c) Identify relationships among the concepts mined in (b);(d) Generate a domain model based on the terms identified in (a), as well as parameters and local variables for the contract;(e) Generate expressions that formalize the conditions of obligations and powers using terms identified in earlier steps in a contract specification language. This paper presents the method through an illustrative example, also reports on a prototype implementation of an environment that supports the method.

Traditionally, business process models are imperative, limiting process behavior to a small set of variants. Purely imperative modeling languages are therefore unsuited for knowledge-intensive processes, which differ from case to case and are driven by knowledge workers. For this reason, declarative, data-centric, and hybrid approaches have been developed. However, in existing approaches, knowledge workers receive little support for late-goal modeling and subsequent planning of their actions. To address this issue, we present a model-driven approach that allows knowledge workers to specify objectives. Objectives are first order logic statements about a desired future execution state of a model's case, regarding data and activities. Those logic expressions are a prerequisite for automated planning.

The revenue gained by spectrum auctions has been an essential source of governmental income. Even though numerous studies have been conducted in auction literature, many catastrophic results occurred in the real world. In this paper, we demonstrate how one can use verification techniques to improve the design of spectrum auctions, i.e., to prevent the unexpected outcomes to happen. To do so, we model the spectrum auction in BPMN and verify certain properties of the auction model. To do so, we assign different capacity points to the bidders and check how it affects the revenue. A capacity point defines the maximum number of products that a bidder can win. Our study reveals which assignment of capacity points to the bidders leads to the worst auctioneer's revenue.

In an increasingly data-rich environment, new opportunities for the domain of business Process Management are created based upon identifying, interpreting, and acting on new and earlier signals. This shifts the focus from process execution to process initiation. Process latency is defined as the time from occurrence of a need to the start of the respective fulfillment process. Based on a comprehensive literature review, secondary data from real-world case examples and international focus groups, this paper classifies three strategies to reduce process latency. For each of these three strategies, reactive and proactive approaches are differentiated. This classification, in its core, serves as a tool for structured ideation and thus, expands process designers' toolset for explorative BPM. Beyond this, the paper contributes by conceptualizing process latency as a novel process metric within the BPM discipline.
