There is a rising demand for assessing the performance of organisations on ethical, social and environmental (ESE) topics. Ethical, social and environmental accounting (ESEA) is common practice in many types of organisations and initiatives. Currently, scientific conferences are not in the spotlight nor feeling pressure to disclose their ESE accounts. However, proactively adopting these practices is an opportunity to lead the way and show commitment and responsibility. Since no existing ESEA method fits the domain of conferences well, this paper presents preliminary results on engineering such a method. We discuss material ESE topics for conferences, key performance indicators, measurement and data collection methods, and ICT infrastructure. We illustrate the method concepts by applying it to the RCIS conference series. We are confident that conference organisers and scientific communities will start assessing the performance of their conferences under many organisational sustainability dimensions and, what is more important, initiate reflection processes to improve such performance over the years.

Using data from the audit trail of an electronic medical record system, we examine the effects of a disruption on the clinical documentation process. We use process mining to construct a network that describes the process and then we use a latent factor selection model to analyze changes to that network. Rather than attempting to discover a particular process model, our goal is to identify theory-based factors that explain change and stability in the overall pattern of actions. We conduct the analysis at two levels of granularity and we compare time periods with and without disruption. The paper contributes to current research on routine dynamics as network dynamics by demonstrating the use of network science to predict the structure of an organizational routine.

It has been claimed in the literature that decision-making methods have not been modulated (transformed) by results obtained in behavioral studies as much as has been expected and that further modulation would be an important advancement in decision-making. This paper summarizes the modulation provided by the Flexible and Interactive Tradeoff (FITradeoff) method from behavioral studies performed using neuroscience tools. Modulations of the FITradeoff method have been conducted in twoways: modulations in the preference modelling process and modulations in the FITradeoff Decision Support System (DSS). For modulation in FITradeoff preference modeling, several recommendations were provided to support analysts during their advising process with decision-makers. For modulation in the FITradeoff DSS, several improvements were implemented in the design of the DSS. The modulation of the FITradeoff method was supported by neuroscience experiments. These experiments investigated decision-makers' (DMs) behavior when they interacted with a holistic evaluation and elicitation by decomposition in the FITradeoff method. The modulation of the FITradeoff method promoted the inclusion of some features through the combination of the two paradigms of preference modeling, completely transforming the decision-making process, and its DSS.

Customer-centric strategies can help startups move towards successful and sustainable businesses. User eXperience (UX) has been considered a critical factor in creating value for the customers and users of startups. Software startups often collect data about the experience with the product from users. However, obtaining valuable insights to improve the UX from customer and user information can be challenging for startup professionals. In this paper, we present a multiple-case study conducted with Brazilian software startups in which we investigated how these companies deal with customer and user information. To collect data, we conducted semi-structured interviews and retrospective meetings with 28 professionals from the four startups. We found that the startups still need to improve their strategies to leverage customer and user information insights for continuous product improvement, including improving communication channels and adopting metrics to assess customer value creation and product success. As a result, this study can motivate startup professionals to reflect on the most efficient practices for collecting and managing UX information to improve their products and measure value creation.

The recent increase in the availability of medical data, possible through automation and digitization of medical equipment, has enabled more accurate and complete analysis on patients' medical data through many branches of data science. In particular, medical records that include timestamps showing the history of a patient have enabled the representation of medical information as sequences of events, effectively allowing to perform process mining analyses. In this paper, we will present some preliminary findings obtained with established process mining techniques in regard of the medical data of patients of the Uniklinik Aachen hospital affected by the recent epidemic of COVID-19. We show that process mining techniques are able to reconstruct a model of the ICU treatments for COVID patients.

Data analysis is becoming increasingly important to pursue organizational goals, especially in the context of Industry 4.0, where a wide variety of data is available. Here numerous challenges arise, especially when using unstructured data. However, this subject has not been focused by research so far. This research paper addresses this gap, which is interesting for science and practice as well. In a study three major challenges of using unstructured data has been identified: analytical know-how, data issues, variety. Additionally, measures how to improve the analysis of unstructured data in the industry 4.0 context are described. Therefore, the paper provides empirical insights about challenges and potential measures when analyzing unstructured data. The findings are presented in a framework, too. Hence, next steps of the research project and future research points become apparent.

Banks play an intrinsic role in any modern economy, recycling capital from savers to borrowers. They are heavily regulated and there have been a significant number of well publicized compliance failings in recent years. This is despite business Process Compliance (BPC) being both a well researched domain in academia and one where significant progress has been made. This study seeks to determine why Australian banks find BPC so challenging. We interviewed 22 senior managers from a range of functions within the four major Australian banks to identify the key challenges. Not every process in every bank is facing the same issues, but in processes where a bank is particularly challenged to meet its compliance requirements, the same themes emerge. The compliance requirement load they bear is excessive, dynamic and complex. Fulfilling these requirements relies on impenetrable spaghetti processes, and the case for sustainable change remains elusive, locking banks into a fail-fix cycle that increases the underlying complexity. This paper proposes a conceptual framework that identifies and aggregates the challenges, and a circuit-breaker approach as an "off ramp" to the fail-fix cycle.

Big Data and its uses are widely used in many applications and fields;artificial information, medical care, business, and much more. Big Data sources are widely distributed and diverse. Therefore, it is essential to guarantee that the data collected and processed is of the highest quality, to deal with this large volume of data from different sources with caution and attention. Consequently, the quality of Big Data must be fulfilled starting from the beginning;data collection. This paper provides a viewpoint on the key Big Data collection Quality Factors that need to be considered every time the data are captured, generated, or created. This study proposes a quality model that can help create and measure data collection methods and techniques. However, the quality model is still introductory and needs to be further investigated.

When applying ontologies in practice, human and machine agents need to ensure that their provenance is trustworthy and it can be relied upon the contained concepts. This is particularly crucial for sensitive tasks such as in medical diagnostics or for safety-criticial applications. In this paper, we propose an architecture for the decentralized attestation and verification of the integrity and validity of ontologies using blockchain technologies. Blockchains are an immutable, tamper-resistant and decentralized storage where all transactions are digitally signed. Thus, they permit tracing the provenance of concepts and identify responsible actors. For a proof-of-concept we extended the WebProtege editor so that domain experts can attest to the provenance of ontologies via their Ethereum blockchain account, subsequently permitting other actors to reason about the validity and integrity of ontologies. For evaluating the applicability of this approach, we explore a use case in the biomedical domain and perform a cost analysis for the public Ethereum blockchain. It is shown that the attestation procedure is technically feasible and offers a new strategy for placing trust in ontologies.

The paper presents a case study of the replacement of an IT system in a production plant, in the context of a change of ownership of the plant and a renewal of its complete IT landscape as a consequence. The new systems had to be operational by a fixed date, some 8 months after formal transfer of ownership. Simultaneously with the replacement of systems the local organisation had to adapt to the views of the new parent company, exploring some workable middle ground between structures and patterns of the old and new parent company. In the given situation where the organisation was transiting to new and partly still to be determined structures and patterns, methodologies assuming a more or less stable social world would be of little guidance. Finding - and creating - firm ground together with people from different backgrounds involved in the project was a major challenge. The paper will present the case itself, followed by a reflection on the position of several methodologies from the social relativism paradigm regarding the dynamics of evolving meanings while developing an information system. The Learning Cycle from Soft Systems Methodology will be projected on the case, to examine retrospectively the fit of SSM with the volatility of the social environment in the case.
