Nowadays, a lot of data regarding business process executions are maintained in event logs. The next activity prediction task exploits such event logs to predict how process executions will unfold up until their completion. The present paper proposes a new approach to address this task: instead of using traces to perform predictions, we propose to use the instance graphs derived from traces. To make the most out of such representation we train a message passing neural network, specifically a Deep Graph Convolutional Neural Network to predict the next activity that will be performed in the process execution. The experiments performed show promising performance hinting that exploiting information about parallelism among activities in a process can induce a performance improvement in highly parallel process.

Due to factors such as hyper-competition, increasing expectations from customers, regulatory changes, and technological advancements, the conditions in which enterprises need to thrive become increasingly turbulent. As a result, enterprise agility, or flexibility, becomes an increasingly important determinant for enterprise success. Since information System (IS) development often is a limiting factor in achieving enterprise flexibility, enterprise flexibility and (automated) IS flexibility cannot be viewed separately and choices that regard flexibility should not be left to developers. By taking a Model-based Engineering (MBE) approach, starting from ontological models of the enterprise and explicit organization design decisions, we bridge the gap from organizational flexibility to (automated) IS flexibility, in such a way that IT is no longer the limiting factor for enterprise flexibility. Low-code technology is a growing market trend that builds on MBE concepts. In this paper, we report on an mapping for (the automation of) the creation of a Mendix low-code application from the ontological model of an enterprise, while also accommodating the required organizational implementation flexibility. Even though the algorithm has been tested successfully on multiple cases, supporting all possible organizational flexibility seems to be an NP-hard problem, and more research is required to check the feasibility and usability of this approach.

Test Maturity Model integration (TMMi) is a popular model for maturity assessment and capability improvement of software testing practices in industry. Originally inspired by the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), and managed by the TMMi Foundation, the TMMi specification provides guidelines for assessing and improving testing capabilities of teams and organizations. In this invited paper, we discuss motivations for and benefits of adopting the TMMi. The discussion is based on an international user survey, which received data from 74 companies that have received TMMi assessments and certifications.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced companies to change their business processes under the constraint that they have to try reducing the face-to-face contact between their employees and customers. In this paper, the authors present the results of an analysis of business process transformation (BPT) during the COVID-19 pandemic from the viewpoint of a psychological contract and communication tool. The concept of the psychological contract was developed by Rousseau. In order to clarify the relationship between the psychological contract and the BPT effect, the authors developed a research model that consists of a psychological contract of an ordinary work environment, a psychological contract of BPT and BPT effectiveness. A survey was conducted in October, 2021 for the analysis.

The aim of this paper is to present the use of sentiment analysis in both Polish and English languages. This goal is related to the fact that the authors of this article have observed many sentences in both Polish and English, used in social media and on websites in Poland. The paper presents the principles of various inflectional forms that should be used in the preparation of the training dataset being the subject of the analysis. Therefore, one of the goals of this article is to identify possible problems that an analyst of sentiment analysis machine learning methods may misinterpret. The motivation of the study was to see if the same methods could be used to analyse sentiment in different languages. We decided to evaluate the possibility of using one sentiment evaluation mechanism, assuming the use of similarly prepared training sets. In addition, the article shows the principles and differences between these languages, including in terms of the possibility of gender identification based on the text. We presented the results of a case study that showed how machine learning tools treat unstructured data to find the right sentiment and what problems can be identified when delivering text in these two languages. The conducted study also showed the possibility of using Big Data sources, such as comments in the form of comments on websites or social media, in order to correctly identify the sentiment, which is not always the case if the training set is not prepared properly.

Although virtual teams (VTs) have been around for over two decades, there are no studies explicitly examining their members' well-being. Motivated, therefore, by a knowledge gap in the VT literature, and a practical need to understand well-being in this context due to the Covid-19 pandemic which has led to an unprecedented transition into virtual working, in this paper, we draw on 14 interviews and present initial findings of a comparative case between two European organizations involving different types (global vs. local) of VTs (Phase 1). Using the job demands-resources (JDR) model as our theoretical lens, we make the following contributions: We identify the situated character of job demands and resources among our participants, explaining how VT members experience simultaneously increased job demands and reduced job resources, which, in combination, may substantially impair their well-being. We also find that understandings of demands and resources are idiosyncratic and vary depending on prior individual experiences of VT members. We discuss initial theoretical and practical contributions of Phase 1 of our study and outline our next steps (Phases 2 and 3).

This study investigates why the Corona-Warn-App, which was meticulously designed in Germany to interrupt the COVID-19's chain of infection, was not installed by the majority of the population and therefore failed to achieve what it was created to do. We collect natural language data by scraping 70,529 related comments from Twitter, and apply sentiment analysis to understand the content. We distinguish negative comments into two categories: technical issues, e.g. crashes and errors, and trust-related issues, e.g. concerns about privacy protection. After a more detailed manual check, we find that some criticisms of the app are not accurate. Surprisingly, more than 40% of trust-related denunciations are based purely on misinformation spread by users. For example, a user complains about a violation of data privacy, when, in fact, the app is fully GDPR-compliant. Our study provides evidence for the intentional promulgation of misinformation to lower trust in life-saving technologies during a pandemic, and calls for a more careful evaluation of the technology's performance.

Recently, digital innovation has revolutionized the world of payments and settlement services. Innovative technologies, such as the tokenization of assets, as well as new forms of digital payments, have challenged both current business models and the existing models of regulation. In this scenario, semantic transparency is fundamental not only to adapt regulation frameworks, but also to support information integration and semantic interoperability. In this paper, we deal with these issues by proposing an ontology-based approach for the modeling of payments and linked obligation settlements, that reuses reference ontologies to create ontology-based modeling patterns that are applied to model the domain-related concepts.

The extraction, transformation, and loading of event logs from information systems is the first and the most expensive step in process mining. In particular, extracting event logs from popular ERP systems such as SAP poses major challenges, given the size and the structure of the data. Open-source support for ETL is scarce, while commercial process mining vendors maintain connectors to ERP systems supporting ETL of a limited number of business processes in an ad-hoc manner. In this paper, we propose an approach to facilitate event data extraction from SAP ERP systems. In the proposed approach, we store event data in the format of object-centric event logs that efficiently describe executions of business processes supported by ERP systems. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed approach, we have developed a tool implementing it and conducted case studies with a real-life SAP ERP system.

Today's production is challenged by disruptive technologies, rapid changing customer needs and varying demands. Thus, production needs to satisfy not only primary and secondary but also tertiary objectives. Many production planning and control approaches have been evolved and proven to comply with primary and secondary objectives with ease. In this paper we look at the tertiary goals of production, such as flexibility, robustness and stability. Since there is no clarity about these terms and they are often mixed up in the literature. Using the example of a modern self-organizing and a classically centrally planned production, we will show the impact of uncertainty on these objectives. This comparison of the self-organizing and the centrally planned production includes the generation of realistic production data, as well as the procedure to apply the same production data and uncertainty in both the self-organizing and the centrally planned production.
