Project governance is an important activity in agile software development (ASD) projects for project success. Middle managers are part of the governance structure in ASD projects. Despite the efficacy of project governance and existence of middle managers in agile teams, project governance and middle management in ASD projects are under-researched. This multiple-case study investigates the roles of middle managers in agile project governance activities within two Nigerian ASD projects through the lens of activity theory. We collected data in semi-structured interviews, observations, questionnaires, and company documents. Our findings show that middle managers performed 25 roles related to planning and coordination for project alignment and execution, continuous improvement and organisational change, agile and technical leadership, monitoring, and capability building. We conclude that middle managers are pivotal to project governance practice and the effectual functioning of agile teams in ASD projects. The study will help agile practitioners to better understand the roles of middle managers in agile project governance. Results from this work contribute to the 'middle management in agile' debate and offer an alternative view that may change beliefs about middle managers in agile project settings.

Agile methods have become the established way to successfully handle changing requirements and time-to-market pressure, even in large-scale environments. Simultaneously, security has become an increasingly important concern due to more frequent and impactful incidents, stricter regulations with growing fines, and reputational damages. Despite its importance, research on how to address security in large-scale agile development is scarce. Therefore, this paper provides an empirical investigation on tackling software product security in large-scale agile environments. Based on a literature review and preliminary interviews, we identified four essential categories that impact how to handle security: (i) the structure of the agile program, (ii) security governance, (iii) adaptions of security activities to agile processes, and (iv) tool-support and automation. We conducted semi-structured interviews with nine experts from nine companies in five industries based on these categories. We performed a content-structuring qualitative analysis to reveal recurring patterns of best practices and challenges in those categories and identify differences between organizations. Among the key findings is that the analyzed organizations introduce cross-team security-focused roles collaborating with agile teams and use automation where possible. Moreover, security governance is still driven top-down, which conflicts with team autonomy in agile settings.

We expect many autonomous vehicles in the modern cities of the future. These, in order to ensure the safety of other road users, will have to be equipped with perception systems enabling the detection and identification of obstacles, and the determination of the resulting threat. Currently, these two key aspects are carried out by systems that properly deal with only one of them at a time. Therefore, the article presents the concept of using UWB (Ultra-wideband) technology as a component of the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) to detect and identify road users. The paper also presents a test of driving a car equipped with a UWB tag at city speeds. As a result, the accuracy of the acquired position that can be obtained in such conditions is presented. Then, the obtained data was filtered with the use of simple filters, and the obtained results indicate the possibility of a significant improvement in positioning accuracy.

Models unfolding their full power are not static but dynamic, interactive artifacts. Mature modeling methods offer means to operationalize models, amplifying their value beyond mere visualizations. Nevertheless, operations on models are regularly not an integral part of the language specification, even less an object of formalization. In this approach, we demonstrate how to capture the core concepts of operations on models in our formalism MetaMorph to allow for an extension of the formal definition of a language's syntax with a precise but platform-independent specification of language functionality. We understand as a model a series of model states that flow into one another through the interaction of the modeler and provided operations. Thereby, we distinguish structural events for the basic changes and domain events for the semantic-aware operations on models, as well as model operations in the creation phase and the operationalization phase of a model. To examine our considerations on an example, we employ ProVis, a modeling method for stochastic education.

Since the late 1990s, audio industry has been subject to severe changes, due to the advent of new technologies such as the mp3 compression codec and the related arrival of peer2peer sharing platforms. The latter ones were replaced by streaming platforms which now drive the digital transformation in this industry. However, there is still turmoil on how digital transformation in this field again facilitates new forms of business. Thus, there is an ongoing change regarding the way value is created and captured within a new market structure. The main objective of our work is to map this new market structure and the new ways of value creation considering the recent developments in the audio industry. Based on a literature review we derive our first drafts of both models which were modified across two focus group workshops afterwards. Moreover, expert interviews are employed to evaluate and continuously modify our models for the current as well as future audio industry. The two models presented in this paper, capture the current value creation mechanisms in the audio industry and provide insights to better understand the future developments facilitated by digital technologies for academia and in practice.

Scholars have reiterated the potential of mobile government solutions to extend the adoption of electronic government services in the context of the proliferation of mobile phones across various countries. This study aimed to understand the challenges faced by municipalities in the implementation, deployment and maintenance of m-government applications. The research followed an interpretive case study strategy and collected data from a municipal entity and its citizens, focusing on the m-government services of the entity. The findings indicate that various stakeholders are key to the successful delivery and uptake of m-government services. The municipal entity faced various challenges including ICT skills shortages, budget overruns, system interoperability and constrained resource capacity. From the citizens' perspective, the study noted concerns with the training of users, service resolution delays as well as privacy and security concerns. Several recommendations for consideration on m-government projects are put forth based on the lessons from the case study.

The design of digital platforms and ecosystems is a challenging problem that involves technical, organizational, and business aspects. In this context, modeling languages for creating conceptualizations are crucial to support the design of comprehensive ecosystems. However, the creation of conceptual models requires the input and expertise of practitioners, who usually do not have the time to learn modeling languages. In this paper, we explore how to overcome this challenge by combining a tangible design approach for ecosystems, named the Tangible Ecosystem Design (TED) methodology, with a value modeling approach named the e(3) value methodology. We created and analyzed a TED Service Map and a corresponding e(3) value model to formulate lessons learned based on a comparison of models. Our results suggest that (1) the design process of a value model can benefit from tangible modeling and (2) model elements can be partially transferred from TED models to e(3) value models. The contribution of this paper provides lessons learned that can be used to derive e(3) value models from the TED approach and thereby lower entry barriers for conceptual models of complex ecosystems.

This paper examines how a positive online customer experience (OCE) can lead customers to consent retailers to collect their personal data and to receive personalized services in exchange. The paper addresses a gap in literature by acknowledging the customer's perspective while most of the prior literature has overemphasized the benefits of customer data for the firm. The aim of this paper is to provide a literature review to inform understanding of the antecedents and consequences of the willingness to share information (WSI). The paper offers four important contributions for both academics and practitioners. First, it adds to understanding of the importance of OCE and WSI for customer loyalty in e-commerce. Second, the paper examines the e-store antecedents of WSI by drawing on existing literature. Third, it proposes the potential consequences of WSI and constructs a conceptual framework for future testing. Finally, the paper proposes managerial implications.

Process mining techniques use event data to describe business processes, where the provided insights are used for predicting processes' future states (Predictive Process Monitoring). Remaining Time Prediction of process instances is an important task in the field of Predictive Process Monitoring (PPM). Existing approaches have two key limitations in developing Remaining Time Prediction Models (RTM): (1) The features used for predictions lack process context, and the created models are black-boxes. (2) The process instances are considered to be in isolation, despite the fact that process states, e.g., the number of running instances, influence the remaining time of a single process instance. Recent approaches improve the quality of RTMs by utilizing process context related to batching-at-end inter-case dynamics in the process, e.g., using the time to batching as a feature. We propose an approach that decreases the previous approaches' reliance on user knowledge for discovering fine-grained process behavior. Furthermore, we enrich our RTMs with the extracted features for multiple performance patterns (caused by inter-case dynamics), which increases the interpretability of models. We assess our proposed remaining time prediction method using two real-world event logs. Incorporating the created inter-case features into RTMs results in more accurate and interpretable predictions.

The literature lacks evidence on the acceptability of AI conversational agents (chatbots) and the motivations for their adoption in healthcare industry. This paper aims to examine the acceptance of these chatbots based on the UTAUT model in Online Health Communities (OHCs) and to explore what kind of impact these particular features have on the users' intentions, and the actual use of these communities. Based on a quantitative methodology approach, we rely on the UTAUT model to study OHCs users' behavior and intentions towards such AI conversational agents/chatbots. The study shows that the UTAUT has proved to be a strong and reliable model for evaluating the adoption and application of AI conversational agents (chatbots) in OHCs. A questionnaire was employed to collect data, and respondents are chosen using the cluster sampling approach. On a 7 Likert scale, respondents were asked to select which choice best suited their reaction to any of the topics presented. A total of 632 answers from 62 countries were received, with 443 of them being complete. Many tests were used to examine the data such as the bivariate and multivariate analysis. Since the returned p-value for most of the hypotheses tested was 0.05, the majority of the hypotheses tested were accepted. Findings showed the interrelations between AI conversational agents/chatbots and OHCs on users' Behavioral Intention (BI). The main constructs of the UTAUT model (Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, and Facilitating Conditions) had a significant impact on the participants' BI and Usage Behavior (UB) for AI conversational agents/chatbots in OHCs. As for moderators, gender and age had no effect on BI and UB. Understanding the main factors that have a significant impact on users' intentions to use chatbots in OHCs determines the significance of those results.
