Recent developments in causal machine learning open perspectives for new approaches that support decision-making in healthcare processes using causal models. In particular, Heterogeneous Treatment Effect (HTE) inference enables the estimation of causal treatment effects for individual cases, offering great potential in a process mining context. At the same time, HTE literature typically focuses on clinical outcome measures, disregarding process efficiency. This paper shows the potential of jointly considering the clinical and operational effects of treatments in the context of healthcare processes. Moreover, we present a simple pipeline that makes existing HTE machine learning techniques directly applicable to event logs. Besides these conceptual contributions, a proof-of-concept application starting from the publicly available sepsis event log is outlined, forming the basis for a critical reflection regarding HTE estimation in a process mining context.

The Design and Engineering Methodology for Organizations (DEMO) comprises a set of models and diagrams to represent an organization. A proposal for a new Process Diagram and a Transaction Description Table fuses part of the contents of DEMO's Process, Cooperation, and Action models. It claims to have achieved a more agile and comprehensive solution to depict the essence of organizational reality. We designed and conducted a pilot study to evaluate the perceived Quality and Functionality of the traditional and alternative representations. Our study was designed to collect feedback both from a group of professionals experienced in the modeled processes (N = 8) and a group experienced in the modeling language DEMO (N = 14). Subjects attended a presentation about the traditional and the new diagrams and filled out a questionnaire. Our data withstands the claims that the new way to represent the Process Model is more accessible and easier to grasp by the professionals working with those processes and by students with knowledge of DEMO. These findings set the ground and first steps of the X-theory, which aims to set the principles of more effective representations of DEMO models based on a sound theoretical and empirical ground.

Nowadays, there is an increasing number of new digital systems and functionalities focused on digital legacy management. In this paper, our goal was to analyze digital legacy management systems - DLMS - from three perspectives (theoretical, systemic, and users') and propose/discuss software requirements. The three viewpoints were analyzed together and in an exploratory approach. The proposal is to classify DLMS into two types: dedicated systems and integrated systems. The results from our study can help software engineers and designers to better understand the complex cultural practices and their technical counterparts in this domain, thus contributing to a discussion on DLMS, their requirements and challenges to their development.

Executing operational processes generates event data, which contain information on the executed process activities. Process mining techniques allow to systematically analyze event data to gain insights that are then used to optimize processes. Visual analytics for event data are essential for the application of process mining. Visualizing unique process executions-also called trace variants, i.e., unique sequences of executed process activities-is a common technique implemented in many scientific and industrial process mining applications. Most existing visualizations assume a total order on the executed process activities, i.e., these techniques assume that process activities are atomic and were executed at a specific point in time. In reality, however, the executions of activities are not atomic. Multiple timestamps are recorded for an executed process activity, e.g., a start-timestamp and a complete-timestamp. Therefore, the execution of process activities may overlap and, thus, cannot be represented as a total order if more than one timestamp is to be considered. In this paper, we present a visualization approach for trace variants that incorporates start- and complete-timestamps of activities.

Cybersecurity has been identified as a major challenge confronting the digital world, neglecting cybersecurity techniques during software design and development increases the risk of malicious attacks. Thus, there is a need to make security an integral part of the agile information system development process. In this exploratory study, we empirically explore the agile security practices adopted by software developers and security professionals. Data was collected by conducting ten semi-structured interviews with agile practitioners from seven companies in the United Kingdom (UK). The study was conducted between August-November 2020. An approach informed by grounded theory was used for data analysis including Open coding, Memoing, Constant comparison and Theoretical saturation. The security practices identified in this study were categorized into roles, ceremonies and artefacts and mapped onto the different phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). We discovered practitioners use five artefacts: security backlog documentation, software security baseline standards, security test plan templates, information security and security audit checklists;and that there are more artefacts than roles and ceremonies. Also, while most practitioners rely on automated tools for software security testing, only one practitioner mentioned conducting security tests manually. These practices that we have identified comprise a novel taxonomy which form the main research contribution of this paper.

The agile model is the present reality for any software development process. Its main objective is to produce good quality software in optimal time. Programmers do unit testing to ensure that the software unit or module they are developing should be bug-free and check that the module is doing what it is supposed to do. On the other hand mutation testing is an important technique to show that the quality of test cases is good. But, industrial practitioners do not follow it in practice because of the computational expenses and huge amount of effort required. In this paper, we introduce a technique to make mutation testing faster, so that the continuous integration (CI) which is the main process of agile can be performed. This way we are towards achieving principles of agile testing. We compute Line and Branch Coverages for a program and utilize them in mutation testing. Using Line coverage information we eliminate the Dead Mutants upfront. Next, using Branch coverage information we set the priority by assigning a rank to each test case and running on reachable mutants. In this paper, we have obtained better results for 45 out of 60 Programs i.e. 75%. Experimentally, we show that our proposed prioritization approach consumes approx. 1036 s less mutation testing time as compared to the baseline (without prioritization). Since we perform mutation testing in less time to achieve agility, we call this technique Agile Mutation Testing.

The implementation of intelligent systems in the processes brings the industries of the mining and metallurgy sectors closer to the context of Industry 4.0 and provides significant improvements, especially in the production and consumption of raw materials and internal products. In this work, we propose an Artificial Intelligence System in Deep Learning with Edge Computing to recognize the quasi-particles of the Hybrid Pelletized Sinter (HPS) process in the steel industry. We train our model with the aXeleRate tool using the Keras-Tensorflow framework and MobileNet architecture. We then tested the model in an embedded system using the SiPEED MaiX Dock board. The model validation results were 98.60% precision and 100.00% recall. Bench-scale test results were 100.00% precision and 70.00% recall. The results were promising and indicate the feasibility of the proposal.

This article analyzes the performance of the MoSCoW method to deliver all features in each of its categories: Must Have, Should Have and Could Have using Monte Carlo simulation. The analysis shows that under MoSCoW rules, a team ought to be able to deliver all Must Have features for underestimations of up to 100% with very high probability. The conclusions reached are important for developers as well as for project sponsors to know how much faith to put on any commitments made.

Process mining is a research domain that enables businesses to analyse and improve their processes by extracting insights from event logs. While determining the root causes of, for example, a negative case outcome can provide valuable insights for business users, only limited research has been conducted to uncover true causal relations within the process mining field. Therefore, this paper proposes AITIA-PM, a novel technique to measure cause-effect relations in event logs based on causality theory. The AITIA-PM algorithm employs probabilistic temporal logic to formally yet flexibly define hypotheses and then automatically tests them for causal relations from data. We demonstrate this by applying AITIA-PM on a real-life dataset. The case study shows that, after a well-thought-out hypotheses definition and information extraction, the AITIA-PM algorithm can be applied on rich event logs, expanding the possibilities of meaningful root cause analysis in a process mining context.

Digital transformation has been an interesting concept from the organizational perspective for a long time. The benefits of a successful digital transformation can take your organization into the next step by providing an increased organizational growth, aid market reachability by penetrating new and exciting markets, or enable your business operations to function to a greater extent than before with higher efficiency and lower lead times. Digital transformation is however a complex and diverse concept that means to integrate new innovations by using digital technology into the organization with the need of making greater organizational changes to succeed. This research, has explored how different organizational aspects like structural, technological and cultural ones can impact the success of a digital transformation during an ERP system change. A case study has been conducted in a company to identify how the current structural, technological, and cultural aspects influence the current digital transformation in that the company. The data was collected through interviews with employees having managerial roles and from internal documents of company and was analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show an agile approach, a more decentralized structure and high readiness for change, along with a transparent communication between management and co-workers to be beneficial for a successfully digital transformation.
