Cardiology departments receive many outpatients from primary care services and it is necessary to differentiate which patients need special attention. One-stop clinics were deployed in a hospital in Salamanca (Spain) to triage such patients, separating those who needed further examination and those who were discharged. Data (covering December 2018-August 2020) was explored and there was an iterative process in which clinicians, process miners and technical staff at the hospital interacted in special interviews or Data Rodeos. Interactive Process Indicators (IPIs) were generated. During Data Rodeos data quality problems arose and were tackled, input data was cleaned and preconditioned, process activities were discovered and modelled. The original assumption that the iterative implementation of the IPI would allow clinicians and managers to have a deeper understanding of the one-stop cardiology clinics process, was evaluated and validated by them. After each iteration, they found that the IPI was more useful and near to the reality they see everyday. The final IPI was easy to interpret by the clinicians. In the end, many key indicators were extracted, but most importantly, clinicians had a comprehensive tool that they could use by themselves, without technical assistance, to extract and interpret different indicators at any time, providing a high-quality source of information to improve patient-centered daily medical care.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the proliferation of online learning have made preventing unethical behaviors an additional task for many teachers. This article investigates the specificity of unethical behavior in online learning and formulates proposals for actions to eliminate this phenomenon. The authors assume that the Internet, as a tool for finding information and communication, enables students to engage in unethical behavior, especially at the stage of assessing the acquired knowledge. The article presents a spectrum of unethical behaviors in online learning carried out via electronic media. The historical perspective of the development of online education in connection with the development of the Internet is presented. The research was carried out using the method of a designed survey among full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students of selected universities in northern Poland. A set of ten most common unethical behaviors is determined, then the frequency of their occurrence is examined, and the relationships between them are defined. The article ends with the classification of students' unethical behaviors in online learning, proposed on the basis of the conducted research.

Although the popularity and adoption of process mining techniques grew rapidly in recent years, a large portion of effort invested in process mining initiatives is still consumed by event data extraction and transformation rather than process analysis. The IEEE Task Force on Process Mining conducted a study focused on the challenges faced during event data preparation (from source data to event log). This paper presents findings from the online survey with 289 participants spanning the roles of practitioners, researchers, software vendors, and end-users. These findings were presented at the XES 2.0 workshop co-located with the 3rd International Conference on Process Mining. The workshop also hosted presentations from various stakeholder groups and a discussion panel on the future of XES and the input needed for process mining. This paper summarises the main findings of both the survey and the workshop. These outcomes help us to accelerate and improve the standardisation process, hopefully leading to a new standard widely adopted by both academia and industry.

Prescriptive process monitoring is a family of techniques to optimize the performance of a business process by triggering interventions at runtime. Existing prescriptive process monitoring techniques assume that the number of interventions that may be triggered is unbounded. In practice, though, interventions consume resources with finite capacity. For example, in a loan origination process, an intervention may consist of preparing an alternative loan offer to increase the applicant's chances of taking a loan. This intervention requires time from a credit officer. Thus, it is not possible to trigger this intervention in all cases. This paper proposes a prescriptive monitoring technique that triggers interventions to optimize a cost function under fixed resource constraints. The technique relies on predictive modeling to identify cases that are likely to lead to a negative outcome, in combination with causal inference to estimate the effect of an intervention on a case's outcome. These estimates are used to allocate resources to interventions to maximize a cost function. A preliminary evaluation suggests that the approach produces a higher net gain than a purely predictive (non-causal) baseline.

In the last few years, Gamification has proved effective for motivating users in using software systems. Gamification Engineering has been proposed as a systematic way to gamify systems. Goal-Oriented Requirements Engineering (GORE) techniques have been emerging for supporting the gamification of a system from the initial stages. However, the gamification of a system itself proved not effective, unless requirements engineers design the gamification solution being driven by characterising users, the context, and considering factors and strategies coming from Social Sciences (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Human Behaviour, Organisational Behaviour). GORE Gamification Engineering techniques have been enhanced for supporting such concepts, referred to as Acceptance Requirements, and the Agon Framework, with its systematic Acceptance Requirements Analysis Based on Gamification, has been proven effective in different EU Projects. However, according to engineers we interviewed in our projects, some GORE gamification activities remain difficult and require further support. In this paper, our contributions are: (i) individuating such activities and providing lessons learned, (ii) considering a crucial activity, i.e. individuation of software components to gamify and how to gamify them, and proposing a solution for this. Our solution is called Supporting the individuation, analysis, and GAMification (SiaGAM) algorithm. To evaluate SiaGAM, we considered the gamification results of 5 EU projects, compared them with the results of applying SiaGAM, and we found that SiaGAM is effective in supporting the engineer in individuating software functions to gamify.

Agility spread from the bottom of organizations, carried by software professional acting as grassroots in promoting and integration of agility, until the practices and approaches got foothold in the organizations. This is unique in comparison with other major transformation of the industry such as that of the capability maturity model (CMM). This paper aims at understanding this agile phenomenon and the underlying informal structure and dynamics. The paper suggests to theorizes this as agile pockets of professionals playing an important role in the agile transformation. Especially four arch types of agile pockets are suggested to be crucial in pivotal situations of the transition. The theory and arguments are based in the well-known theory Communities of practice by Etienne Wenger [21, 22], but needs more development and empirical validation.

Process mining facilitates analysis of business processes using event logs derived from historical records of process executions stored in organisations' information systems. Most existing process mining techniques only consider data directly related to process execution (endogenous data). Data not directly representable as attributes of either events or traces (which includes exogenous data), are generally not considered. Exogenous data may be used by process participants in making decisions about execution paths. However, as exogenous data is not represented in event logs, its impact on such decision making is opaque and cannot currently be assessed by existing process mining techniques. This paper shows how exogenous data can be used in process mining, in particular discovery and enhancement techniques, to understand its influence on process decisions. In particular, we focus on time series which represent periodic observations of e.g. weather measurements, city health alerts or patient vital signs. We show that exogenous time series can be aligned and transformed into new attributes to annotate events in an event log. Then, we use these attributes to discover preconditions in a Petri net with exogenous data (xDPN), thus revealing the exogenous data's influence on the process. Using our framework and a real-life data set from the medical domain, we evaluate the influence of exogenous data on decision points that are non-deterministic in an xDPN.

Facial treatments, even for aesthetic purposes, often involve unnecessary patient risk due to treatment by unexperienced practitioners and/or a lack of standardized procedures. We develop a software to support and standardize facial treatments based on knowledge of experts. The prototype utilizes WebGL and 3D-equipment, but it also focuses affordability to make its wide-spread use more likely. It aims to help in treatment planning along with professional self-development. In this paper, we describe the underlying problem, a possible medical model as a solution, the prototype architecture, and how the prototype is utilized in the treatment process. Finally, we conduct a test of the prototype.

Enterprises are fast evolving into hyperconnected ecosystems that need to continue meeting the stated goals in a dynamic environment that changes along multiple dimensions. Ability to respond to these changes in an ever-shrinking window of opportunity is a critical need that has remained unfulfilled. With enterprises increasingly reliant on software systems, these need to be amenable to quick adaptation in order to effect these decisions. We propose an approach aimed at meeting these needs in a holistic, automated, and human-in-loop manner. The proposed approach builds further upon proven ideas from Modelling & simulation, Artificial Intelligence, and Control Theory, and is validated in part on real-world industry-scale problems.

Conceptual modeling applies abstraction to reduce the complexity of a system under study to produce a human interpretable, formalized representation (i.e., a conceptual model). Such models enable understanding and communication among humans and processing by machines. Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms are also applied to complex realities (regularly represented by vast amounts of data) to identify patterns or classify entities in the data automatically. However, AI differs from conceptual modeling because the results are often neither comprehensible nor explainable nor reproducible. AI systems often act as a black box;not even their developers can explain their behavior. The uptake of AI is recognizable across all disciplines and domains, both in academia and industry. The enterprise engineering field is no exception to this trend. In this paper, which is based on a keynote delivered at EEWC 2021, we present selected recent contributions at the intersection of conceptual modeling and AI, thereby shedding light on challenges and opportunities for enterprise engineering.
