Machine learning has emerged as a useful tool to aid software quality control. It can support identifying problematic code snippets or predicting maintenance efforts. The majority of these frameworks rely on code metrics as input. However, evidence suggests great potential for text- and image-based approaches to predict code quality as well. Using a manually labeled dataset, this preliminary study examines the use of five text- and two image-based algorithms to predict the readability, understandability, and complexity of source code. While the overall performance can still be improved, we find Support Vector Machines (SVM) outperform sophisticated text transformer models and image-based neural networks. Furthermore, text-based SVMs tend to perform well on predicting readability and understandability of code, while image-based SVMs can predict code complexity more accurately. Our study both shows the potential of text- and image-based algorithms for software quality prediction and outlines their weaknesses as a starting point for further research.

The effect of national culture in the software development especially in Agile Software Development industry has a considerable place since national culture affects and shapes organizations and individuals. Our study examines the impact of Turkish national culture on Agile software transformations and developments in Turkey, as the first instance in/for Turkey scope, to the best of our knowledge. We conducted semi-structured interviews with fourteen experts in prominent nine companies from three major industries including TechFin, Aviation, and Telecommunication. In the study, motivations of organizations for transforming Agile, challenges with transitioning to Agile, Agile culture specific to Turkey and preferences on Agile frameworks in Turkey were investigated. The results were discussed along with their implications for Agile in Turkey by considering Hofstede's model which is designed to investigate country-level cultural traits. Our results are largely parallel with the existing knowledge of Hofstede Insights specific to Turkish culture, yet we additionally present the impacts of this national culture of Turkey on the country's Agile Software Development. Consequently, it was observed that the national cultural background has a considerable effect on the Turkish Agile software development domain. We have witnessed some similar effects in the Eastern culture as well. By providing the country's cultural patterns through a localized lens, the study may contribute to those who may have a practical interest to Turkish in terms of which potential challenges they need to be prepared for once they move into the adoption of agile working in/with this country and more generally in/with the countries with which has similar cultures as in the Eastern civilizations. Our study also comes with global insights to the other countries in terms of understanding the use of agile methods and practices in companies located outside of the early adopters of agile methods.

Digital business Ecosystem (DBE) supports organizations to collaborate and combine their expertise to stay competitive through ICTs. Being beneficial to the organizations, DBEs are also complex and more difficult to manage. Through visual analysis and knowledge explication, modelling can increase the transparency of DBEs and improve the understanding of DBEs through multiple perspectives. However, current scientific literature suggests a lack of methodological guidance for modelling in support of the analysis, design, and management of DBEs. The purpose of this interview study was to elicit requirements and needs for developing a holistic method of modelling DBEs. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore and understand DBEs from an industrial and experts' viewpoints with 11 participants from different business domains. The empirical data was analyzed using Thematic Analysis, which lead to 30 requirements, categorized into four classes, namely, requirements for model creation, analysis, management of DBE, as well as cross cutting requirements addressing the overall establishment and use of the modelling method.

In 2020, the new ITIL 4 standard was introduced. ITIL standardization had and still has a big influence on how IT-Service Management is seen and performed in practice. Thus, the new standard is expected to have a high impact as well. A key element of ITIL 4 is the strong focus on Stakeholder Value in the analysis of IT-Services. Yet apart from ITIL, stakeholder orientation is a current trend in business analysis. itsVALUE method and Modeller provide means to model and analyze value delivery in IT-Services and thus can be used Service Design in an ITIL 4 context. It combines "traditional" approaches to value stream analysis and service modelling and adds concepts and functionalities that meet the requirements of IT-Service Management and ITIL 4. This work introduces the basic concepts of itsVALUE and discusses a first case study based evaluation and its results. Generally, the participants involved perceived the method as suitable to support value-oriented IT-Service Management.

Process mining enables organizations to discover and analyze their actual processes using event data. Event data can be extracted from any information system supporting operational processes, e.g., SAP. Whereas the data inside such systems is protected using access control mechanisms, the extracted event data contain sensitive information that needs to be protected. This creates a new risk and a possible inhibitor for applying process mining. Therefore, privacy issues in process mining become increasingly important. Several privacy preservation techniques have been introduced to mitigate possible attacks against static event data published only once. However, to keep the process mining results up-to-date, event data need to be published continuously. For example, a new log is created at the end of each week. In this paper, we elaborate on the attacks which can be launched against continuously publishing anonymized event data by comparing different releases, so-called correspondence attacks. Particularly, we focus on group-based privacy preservation techniques and show that provided privacy requirements can be degraded exploiting correspondence attacks. We apply the continuous event data publishing scenario to existing real-life event logs and report the anonymity indicators before and after launching the attacks.

User stories describe system requirements from the users' point of view using structured natural language. These artifacts mostly assist the development team in agile projects where sets of them express the expected features of the to-be software. Nevertheless, when faced with large user stories' sets, further structuring needs to be introduced to make the software problem more understandable/clear. Indeed, the latter can hardly be understood on the basis of huge flat lists of sentences. The present paper describes the premises of an experiment destined to evaluate whether novice modelers can understand the requirements problem better through a visual representation (called Rationale Tree) built out of a user stories' set. It does so by comparing, on the same objective, the Rationale Tree method to the industry-adopted User Story Mapping technique with a modeling exercise. This was performed with the participation of two student groups where one used the former technique while the other one employed the latter. The ultimate goal of this exercise is to identify the actual performance of the Rational Tree in delivering understandability to the requirements problem (when input is provided in the form of a complex user stories' set) in order to identify possible bottlenecks and improvement opportunities within the method itself.

The evaluation of cities regarding environmental and sustainable development practices should be made by a set of criteria expressing their economic, social, and environmental objectives. A ranking of sustainable cities aims to encourage the continuity of actions that contribute to the reduction of environmental problems and help cities develop sustainably. This paper proposes a group decision model for ranking sustainable cities. It is based on a multi-criteria method to support decision-makers to build individual rankings, and on a framework for choosing a voting procedure to aggregate the individual priorities into a collective ranking of sustainable cities. The applicability of the model is illustrated with a real environmental problem in a hydrographic basin in Brazil.

Innovative functioning models featuring smart cities are currently receiving much attention and this often concerns the notion of Internet-of-Things (IoT). Complex systems are considered in this regard, that are about the merging and processing of large volumes of data, aiming at quality-of-life-driven decision making. Safety and security aspects are considered in that perspective. Here, technology pros and cons are to be established as well as the potentials for combining different technologies, such that human-harmful effects are reduced and overall benefits are achieved. Addressing smart cities in general, we propose in the current paper a method that concerns the IoT-based transport development. The proposed method is about the detection of ground and air vehicles. In particular, we suggest using the forward scattering effect principle. On that basis, we suggest crossing the baselines formed between the numerous transmitters and receivers concerning corresponding IoT sensors. Finally, the proposed method is expected to enable electromagnetic pollution reductions, by limiting the number of emitters of electromagnetic waves.

Context: Nowadays, companies are challenged by increasing market dynamics, rapid changes and disruptive participants entering the market. To survive in such an environment, companies must be able to quickly discover product ideas that meet the needs of both customers and the company and deliver these products to customers. Dual-track agile is a new type of agile development that combines product discovery and delivery activities in parallel, iterative, and cyclical ways. At present, many companies have difficulties in finding and establishing suitable approaches for implementing dual-track agile in their business context. Objective: In order to gain a better understanding of how product discovery and product delivery can interact with each other and how this interaction can be implemented in practice, this paper aims to identify suitable approaches to dual-track agile. Method: We conducted a grey literature review (GLR) according to the guidelines to Garousi et al. Results: Several approaches that support the integration of product discovery with product delivery were identified. This paper presents a selection of these approaches, i.e., theDiscovery-Delivery Cycle model, Now-Next-Later Product Roadmaps, Lean Sprints, Product Kata, and Dual-Track Scrum. The approaches differ in their granularity but are similar in their underlying rationales. All approaches aim to ensure that only validated ideas turn into products and thus promise to lead to products that are better received by their users.

The trend of digitization at universities has increased as a result of the Corona pandemic. Universities and teachers were forced to undertake a digital restructuring in a short period of time. Teaching had to be digitized, so interest in digital educational materials continued to grow. Open Educational Resources (OER) offer great potential in this context due to their digital format and usability across universities. When using as well as creating such free educational materials, lecturers have to check the quality of the OER due to individual quality requirements. For this reason, special attention should be paid to how quality assurance can be measured. There are already numerous models for quality assurance, which differ in terms of their complexity and level of detail. Zawacki-Richter and Mayr-berger have conducted a comparison of these models and developed an adapted model based on their findings. By including lecturers, as a relevant stakeholder group, this model will be verified. lecturers can be seen as exporters or importers of OER. Whether something is high quality depends on the needs of each user, their tasks and processes, so quality requirements can vary with the respective role. The aim is to investigate which quality criteria lecturers think OER should fulfill in order to be of high quality. For this purpose, an embedded mixed method (EMM) survey of lecturers was conducted, in which the different roles of a lecturer were also distinguished.
