The issue of crisis is a constantly debated phenomenon in many scientific disciplines. The term crisis is considered as a multidisciplinary concept because conceptualization and analysis of this discussed phenomenon remains important for research. The multidisciplinary, manner of managing crisis in different fields and the complexity of examining this problem often lead to the fragmentation of this discipline. A lot of research papers focus on observation and understanding of crisis phenomena, which are aimed at compiling the concept of crisis theory. We react to the fact that an organizational crisis is specified by several attributes with causalities characterized by several crisis life cycle. These life cycles are conditioned by a number of factors that fundamentally affect crisis development. This research paper seeks to understand and explains the concept of organizational crisis through using conceptual modelling. The research goal is to identify crisis factors affecting the development of the crisis and to focus on an idea of a possible identification the crisis tipping point. To understanding the complexities of the organizational crisis concept, the Methodology for Modeling and Analysis of business Process (MMABP) is selected for this research. This technique works with a System ontology model represented by the conceptual model with life cycles models of organizational crisis. For conceptual modelling we use standard modelling language UML which contains diagram for sufficient modelling of the Real World modality as well as its related causality (Class Diagram and State Chart).

business process architectures are an important vehicle to organize business process models of an organization, since they provide a holistic view on the interrelationships between business process models. Current techniques to design business process architectures derive them directly from a repository of process models, neglecting processes execution information like event logs. In this paper, we propose an approach for automatically discovering a business process architecture from a set of event logs. The resulting architecture captures behavioral dependencies between two or more business process models, using information stored in event logs. We extended an existing business process architecture representation to accommodate such behavior. The application of the approach on two real-life event logs shows its effectiveness in discovering the intricate dependencies between business processes, based on data.

Organizations have established relationships to create software ecosystems (SECO). Suppliers face challenges when provisioning and maintaining products and technologies in a competitive market, while software-consuming organizations face challenges when performing IT architecture activities, i.e., to choose, adopt and maintain software products and technologies in such a dynamic marketplace. However, the lack of structured knowledge hinders SECO management and monitoring in this scenario. In this paper, SECOGov approach is presented to support IT architects in activities to assist a software-consuming organization to: monitor the market;map relationships with suppliers, software products, and technologies;manage software licenses;and visualize strategic information on IT architecture evolution to adjust production. A tool was developed and a study with 16 IT architects in a large organization of the oil & gas sector was conducted to evaluate its feasibility, as well as utility and ease of use. It was observed that SECOGov is feasible to support IT architecture activities, more specifically regarding monitoring technology adoption.

business Model Innovation (BMI) is a creative process that often needs collaboration between different stakeholders with the support of domain experts. Instead of innovation workshops where the domain experts need to be physically present, software-based tools allow reusing the knowledge of many domain experts independent of their actual presence. This reusing of expert knowledge, which improves the quality of the developed business models, is currently not supported by existing business Model Development Tools (BMDTs). To address this shortcoming, we present an approach to support BMDTs with consolidated knowledge of different experts. In our approach, domain experts formalize their knowledge about business models for particular domains in expert models to make them useable within and transferable between different tools. business developers can subsequently choose the expert models they need, consolidate the knowledge, and use it within the BMI process. With this approach, we provide a three-fold contribution to the research of BMDTs: First, we design a modeling language to store the business model knowledge of individual experts. Second, we develop a concept to consolidate expert knowledge and detect possible knowledge conflicts. Third, we provide blueprints to add expert knowledge into existing BMDTs. We demonstrate the technical feasibility of our approach with an open-source BMDT implementation and show the applicability with an exemplary instantiation of a local event platform.

The allocation of resources in a business process determines the trade-off between cycle time and resource cost. A higher resource utilization leads to lower cost and higher cycle time, while a lower resource utilization leads to higher cost and lower waiting time. In this setting, this paper presents a multi-objective optimization approach to compute a set of Pareto-optimal resource allocations for a given process concerning cost and cycle time. The approach heuristically searches through the space of possible resource allocations using a simulation model to evaluate each allocation. Given the high number of possible allocations, it is imperative to prune the search space. Accordingly, the approach incorporates a method that selectively perturbs a resource utilization to derive new candidates that are likely to Pareto-dominate the already explored ones. The perturbation method relies on two indicators: resource utilization and resource impact, the latter being the contribution of a resource to the cost or cycle time of the process. Additionally, the approach incorporates a ranking method to accelerate convergence by guiding the search towards the resource allocations closer to the current Pareto front. The perturbation and ranking methods are embedded into two search metaheuristics, namely hill-climbing and tabu-search. Experiments show that the proposed approach explores fewer resource allocations to compute Pareto fronts comparable to those produced by a well-known genetic algorithm for multi-objective optimization, namely NSGA-II.

Industry 4.0, i.e. the connection of cyber-physical systems via the Internet in production and logistics, leads to considerable changes in the socio-technical system of the factory. The effects range from a considerable need for further training, which is exacerbated by the current shortage of skilled workers, to an opening of the previously inaccessible boundaries of the factory to third-party access, an increasing merging of office IT and manufacturing IT, and a new understanding of what machines can do with their data. This results in new requirements for the modeling, analysis and design of information processing and performance mapping business processes. In the past, procedures were developed under the name of "process-oriented knowledge management" with which the exchange and use of knowledge in business processes could be represented, analyzed and improved. However, these approaches were limited to the office environment. A method that makes it possible to document, analyze and jointly optimize the new possibilities of knowledge processing by using artificial intelligence and machine learning in production and logistics in the same way and in a manner compatible with the approach in the office environment does not exist so far. The extension of the modeling language KMDL, which is described in this paper, will contribute to close this research gap. This paper describes first approaches for an analysis and design method for a knowledge management integrating man and machine in the age of Industry 4.0.

Three of the key impediments that need to be addressed to unlock the true potential of smart contract-based applications include: (i) a lack of operational capabilities to leverage trustworthiness, (ii) limited ability for reuse in volatile and heterogenous application contexts, and (iii) inherent coding complexity that hinders not only involvement of non-technical business experts but also widely used DevOps practices. This paper reports on the core intermediate results of the development of a model-driven DevOps approach -labelled ChainOps- that ultimately will enable involvement of non-experts, promote reuse and allow for automatic semantic model checking and reasoning to ascertain improved trustworthiness. In addition, a preliminary architecture of an experimental prototype -that is currently under development- is discussed. Finally, this paper plots a roadmap for much needed future research to further explore, validate and extend our initial findings.

business Process Mining (BPM) has become an essential tool in internal audit (IA), which helps auditors analyze potential risks in clients' core business processes. After finishing the risk analysis task for the target business process with BPM, auditors need to sample a small set of representative process cases from event log, based on which clients will verify the analysis results and analyze the triggers for the risks in the target business process. This process case sampling (PCS) step is important because it is difficult to check each single case from a large event log. Therefore, the quality of the set of case samples (SCS) from PCS is regarded as one of the success factors in IA project. Manual PCS and simple random PCS are two basic methods for executing PCS. However, both methods cannot assure the quality of the generated SCS. In this paper, we propose an advanced PCS method. It first defines the risk of process cases as well as the factors that affect the quality of SCS, before dynamically optimizing the quality of SCS during PCS. Our experimental evaluation highlights that our approach yields higher quality SCS than manual PCS and simple random PCS.

The short answer to the question "what is needed to make enterprises and software less vulnerable against disruptive events?" is: eliminate the disruptive character of events. Disruption, defined as a violent dissolution of continuity (OED), is not a property of an event as such, but is about the disruptive effect that some events can have on enterprises or software systems. The better enterprises and their systems are able to deal with disturbances in their environments, the less they will be disrupted. How enterprises are viewed and organised is important in this regard. One view is to approach enterprises as machines, cf. the concept of enterprise engineering. Viewed as a machine, an enterprise will be modelled and structured as primarily driven by events causing sequences of predefined processes. Another view is the enterprise as an organism, flexibly acting to achieve its goals, using instruments and adapting to never fully predictable circumstances. This paper will argue that enterprises seeing and structuring themselves along the organism metaphor will be less vulnerable than enterprises seeing and structuring themselves along the machine metaphor.

Blockchain is a foundational technology where the idea of a distributed database and trust is established through mass collaboration and smart contracts. It is being claimed to be the next major socio-technical advancement after the invention of the Internet. In this paper we present a framework that supports experts in designing self-sustaining ecosystems leveraging distributed ledger technology. The critical building blocks of the framework are value exchange mapping, determining an evolutionary distributed ledger technology architecture, governance modelling, and token engineering. The goal of the framework is to establish a Minimum Viable Ecosystem that is self-sustaining in itself while having a positive-sum game as the basis to attain organic network effects. The framework has been evaluated through three case studies of prominent distributed ledger technology projects. The results of the case study were positive and evident of the need for such frameworks to help experts to think strategically, critically and precisely.
