While literature emphasizes the importance of process mining for pushing digital transformation in manufacturing, it remains unclear how process mining can be actually implemented and used by domain experts, especially in small and medium sized manufacturing companies (SMMC). This paper provides the findings of a focus group study, i.e., expectations on and experiences with the introduction of process mining in SMMC, including employees in different positions, e.g., process supervisors and shopfloor workers, and exposure to process mining. Transparency, for example, is an expected benefit for managers, facilitating the collaboration with business partners, error prevention, and legal protection. Shopfloor workers, in turn, perceive transparency as possible threat. The implementation of two process mining scenarios at one of the SMMC led to reduced documentation effort which helped to win over shopfloor workers. Altogether, the findings of this study can help to address concerns and challenges (e.g., with the infrastructure and data collection) early when introducing process mining at SMMC.

Traditionally, enterprise models have been used for representing knowledge on all aspects of an organization. This aided not only in composing a holistic picture of the different layers of an enterprise in terms of its business model, products and services, business processes and IT architecture, but also for describing the inter-dependencies between the layers. Depending on the degree of formalization, algorithms may be applied to the models, e.g. for simulations. With the upcoming of low-code approaches in software engineering, we regard in this position paper how similar concepts may be integrated in enterprise engineering. In particular we regard augmented enterprise models as interfaces to digital systems and illustrate this view with approaches for semantic technologies, data analytics and blockchain platforms. It is envisaged that such approaches will aid domain experts in integrating digital technologies in their daily work practices.

Changing capabilities is a measure that businesses employ as a response to emerging opportunities, threats and necessary adaptations derived from the dynamic environment they operate in. Enterprise Modeling is a discipline that can provide support during the transition of capabilities and facilitate the process. This study is part of a project aiming to develop a method specifically designed for managing capability change using enterprise modeling. This paper's goal is to identify candidate components for the method by exploring semantic consistency among different enterprise models developed in the context of a case study. The reported case study has been conducted in an organization of the public arts and culture sector in Greece that is dealing with multiple difficulties and challenges simultaneously and is driven to adapt its capabilities. Different Enterprise Modeling approaches are employed to capture the wide spectrum of concepts necessary for modeling the complex capability change phenomenon. Potentials for model integration and candidate method components are identified along with business transformation insight derived from the analysis of changes.

In recent years, text analysis has been applied to newspaper articles in order to analysis social issues. However, it is difficult to identify a specific theme and to showtrend using text analysis alone. This study applies deep machine learning to the huge amount of text data available and clarifies social issues and their temporal change by focusing on the social issues of disaster prevention in Japan. We extracted words of the text of newspaper article data about disaster prevention, and applied the skip-gram approach of word2vec to calculate the similarity with a specific keyword that was specified in advance. Next, by applying Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF), we performed clustering of words based on the degree of similarity of them and estimated the characteristics of the transition of each cluster. The characteristic result comparing evacuation with volunteers is the content of the agendas in the middle stage (2006-2010) and the final stage (2011-2014). In the middle stage, evacuation was characterized by education, whereas volunteers were characterized by disaster experience. In the final stage, evacuation was characterized by system issues, while volunteers were characterized by education and operation.

Teaching entrepreneurship and startups is a challenging task. Approaches using real or simulated entrepreneurship as a teaching method are also common in startup education. However, as educators and researchers, we typically only observe the outcomes of the startup journey between weekly lectures and other meetings, whereas the actions taken by the student teams can seldom be observed. This makes the process a black box. All valuable learnings, realizations, and big ideas happen in the students' minds, and little evidence exists to say what happened during the course. As a result, we are entirely missing out on the most critical elements of the learning process. To remedy this issue, we propose a new tool for startup education: The Startup Scratch Book. Based on extant literature and our experiences in the area, we have devised this novel approach to learning diaries in startup education. We discuss the specifics of this proposed approach in this paper.

When an actor is selecting an action in order to fulfill its intents, in a given context, the actor's knowledge and beliefs about the specific context will impact the possibility to achieve a desired outcome. The context is often affected by unobserved, or unmeasured, factors, which can impact the result of the desired outcome. The context specific knowledge and beliefs an actor has about a domain, together with the possibilities to evaluate and learn which actions shall be taken, are packaged into a context frame. Our intention with this study is to evaluate an implementation of such a context frame. The context frame concept is meant to support actors to fulfill their intents in a given knowledge domain, by enforcing the needed, and available, actions which cause effects on the outcomes. We have built our implementation of the context frame on the OODA-loop, Pask's conversation theory, and structural causal models, by using a Bayesian approach, and probabilistic programming. The research approach is based on evaluation research. We evaluated our implementation with the help of a proof of concept. During the proof of concept we used data sets containing decisions about treatment and survival analysis regarding cancer patients, information obtained during focus group interviews, and questionnaire data. The proof of concept used to evaluate our implementation of a context frame was regarded as successful and the concept of context frames deemed as useful. Our division of a context frame in three parts, supported by four different types of analysis functions, made it easier to create a solution which supports evaluation and learning.

Faced with the triad of time-cost-quality, the realization of knowledge-intensive tasks at economic conditions is not trivial. Since the number of knowledge-intensive processes is increasing more and more nowadays, the efficient design of knowledge transfers at business processes as well as the target-oriented improvement of them is essential, so that process outcomes satisfy high quality criteria and economic requirements. This particularly challenges knowledge management, aiming for the assignment of ideal manifestations of influence factors on knowledge transfers to a certain task. Faced with first attempts of knowledge transfer-based process improvements [1], this paper continues research about the quantitative examination of knowledge transfers and presents a ready-to-go experiment design that is able to examine quality of knowledge transfers empirically and is suitable to examine knowledge transfers on a quantitative level. Its use is proven by the example of four influence factors, which namely are stickiness, complexity, competence and time pressure.

This paper synthesises the conceptualisation of improvisation within the frameworks of emergent strategizing and sensemaking. In doing so, it explores howthe arguments presented in the literature offer an important role for improvisation in strategy making, with particular attention to its significance in understanding emergent strategizing and sensemaking. Through a synthesis of the literature, we show that emergent strategizing, sensemaking and improvisation, working in harmony, provide a powerful combination, particularly when developing strategy following a pandemic. We postulate that a group support system may be able to uniquely offer management teams the possibility of encompassing improvisation into their strategic thinking. This is likely to be increasingly relevant as organisations move out of the uncertainties of a global pandemic.

International Conference on Software business (ICSOB), one of the first software-intensive business specific conference series, was founded in 2010 and during the last decade, it has each year hosted tens of studies addressing various aspects of doing business with software products and services. As the conference has remained rather similar, it acts as a showcase on recent development trends in software-intensive business research. This short study uses all documents (n = 249) published in ICSOB conferences from 2010 to 2019 as a material for a trend analysis of the field. The metadata of all documents were gathered from Scopus and co-word bibliometric analysis was used to illustrate temporal clusters of research. In addition, the paper illustrate most active institutions and authors in the field.

Project completion time evaluation under uncertainty is still a problem in project management. It is most acute in the areas of large uncertainty in activity estimations and fast changing environment, where only stochastic approaches are possible. We propose an analytical technique for managers that produces a worst case approximation of the project end time. This is an operationally simple heuristic that needs only one network traverse, with realistic model and assumptions, simple mathematical calculations and probability distribution types. The technique considers merge event bias that causes a delay in the stochastic project network. Additionally, end time of all activities and likely critical activities are found. To show the application of the technique, we analyzed time of a real construction project and obtained good accuracy.
