This study contributes to the existing literature on the river sharing problem. We extend the traditional river sharing model to incorporate variability in endowments and the externality of flooding. In this work, we construct a theoretical model of a successive flood prone river shared between two riparian states. We investigate the stability of agreements which allocate water as well as flood damages among riparian states. Cooperation is ensured by means of fixed annual side-payments, and responsibilities over flood damages are assumed to be assigned using the Sequential Upstream Proportional Allocation rule. If variability in water availability is taken into account, then a stable agreement must sustain cooperative behaviour for any realization of endowments, and must be resilient to scarcity or floods which occur as a consequence of variability. In order to frame such agreements, we utilise the theory of infinitely repeated discounted games. We derive a threshold limit on the discount factor, below which stability cannot be ensured.

To achieve operational excellence, a clear understanding of the core processes of a company is vital. Process mining enables companies to achieve this by distilling historical process knowledge based on recorded historical event data. Few techniques focus on the prediction of process performance after process redesign. This paper proposes a foundational framework for a data-driven business process redesign approach, allowing the user to investigate the impact of changes in the process, w.r.t. the overall process performance. The framework supports the prediction of future performance based on anticipated activity-level performance changes and control-flow changes. We have applied our approach to several real event logs, confirming our approach's applicability.

Especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic which is influencing human behavior, it is clear that there is a rising need for joining psychology and computer science to provide technology interventions for people suffering from negative feelings and behavior change. Behavior is driven by an individual's character and the situation they are in, according to Character Computing and the Character-Behavior-Situation (CBS) triad. Accordingly, we developed the first full ontology modeling the CBS triad with the aim of providing domain experts with an intelligent interface for modeling, testing, and unifying hypotheses on the interactions between character, behavior, and situation. The ontology consists of a core module modeling character-based interactions and use-case and domain-specific modules. It was developed by computer scientists and psychology domain experts following an iterative process. The main contributions of this paper include updating the earlier prototypical version of the ontology-based on feedback from psychology experts and existing literature, adding more tools to it for enabling domain expert interaction, and providing the final ontology. Steps taken towards evaluating and validating the ontology are outlined.

Comparing observed behavior (event data generated during process executions) with modeled behavior (process models), is an essential step in process mining analyses. Alignments are the de-facto standard technique for calculating conformance checking statistics. However, the calculation of alignments is computationally complex since a shortest path problem must be solved on a state space which grows non-linearly with the size of the model and the observed behavior, leading to the well-known state space explosion problem. In this paper, we present a novel framework to approximate alignments on process trees by exploiting their hierarchical structure. Process trees are an important process model formalism used by state-of-the-art process mining techniques such as the inductive mining approaches. Our approach exploits structural properties of a given process tree and splits the alignment computation problem into smaller sub-problems. Finally, sub-results are composed to obtain an alignment. Our experiments show that our approach provides a good balance between accuracy and computation time.

Recent technological shifts have pressured businesses to reshape the way they operate and transact. At the hart of this restructuring, identity management established itself as an essential building block in both B2C and B2B business models. Trustworthy identities may refer to customers, businesses, suppliers or assets, and enable trusted communications between different actors. Unfortunately, traditional identity management systems rely on centralized architectures and trust in third party services. With the inception of blockchain technology, new methods for managing identity emerged, which promise better decentralization and self-sovereignty. This paper provides an evaluation of a selection of distributed identity methods, and analyzes their properties based on the categorization specified in the W3C recommendation rubric.

Evaluating the quality of resources and the reliability of entities in a system is one of the current needs of modern computer systems. This assessment is the result of two concepts that dominate our real life as well as computer systems, which are Trust and Reputation. To measure them, a variety of computational models have been developed to help users make decisions, and to improve interactions with the system and between users. Due to the wide variety of definitions for reputation and trust topics, this paper attempts to unify these definitions by proposing a unique formalization in terms of graphical and textual notations. It introduces also a deep analysis to understand the behavior and the intuition behind each computational model.

In this paper we want to introduce OLIVE, a model-centric and low-code microservice framework, resulting from the lessons learned in five years of European projects. The requirements on those projects are summarized and used to extract the characteristics that a microservice framework should support in order to be aware of models. An implementation of the OLIVE framework has been proposed, focusing more on the concepts, and required models, instead that on the technical details and has been evaluated in each project with definition of the needed microservices. Micro service development using a low code approach is still an open research field and with OLIVE we want to provide an initial contribution relative to the dependencies between microservices and models, using ADOxx as reference meta-modelling platform, and proposing an initial modelling method for the definition of OLIVE micro services.

DevOps is a software development and operation practice, and a recent addition to a large family of different kinds of software process models. The model was born as it was observed that information systems operations and information system developments are closely integrated activities for the success of any organization. Thus, DevOps methods are an addition for the companies to improve overall performance in their software development process and operations. DevOps fills the gap between the development and operations teams and maintains the collaboration among information technology professionals for delivering the software applications. Due to its recent emergence, there are relatively little research done, at least when compared to the other software process models, on DevOps and its successful usage. Previously, some empirical research studies have been conducted on the success factors of DevOps, but a synthesis of these findings is needed. This paper aims to find out various critical success factors of DevOps projects that have been discussed in prior research by following a systematic literature review. Based on our extensive keyword search and after applying inclusion/exclusion criteria, we have included 30 research articles in this paper. The identified critical success factors were categorized into technical, organizational and social and cultural dimensions. Finally, this study offers a comprehensive framework depicting how the critical success factors impact or drive DevOps success.

The Model-Driven Architecture has been launched in 2001 by the OMG. Since then, model-driven engineering has been embraced by the research community but less than hoped for by practitioners. To ensure the relevance of a research agenda, we need a good understanding of practitioners' problems, in particular with modelling. We therefore performed a literature review on the state of practice in the use of modelling languages for software engineering in the last 5 years according to Kitchenham's guidelines. This paper serves as orientation within the research field and as a basis for further research. It contributes to literature by focusing on papers discussing practical use of modelling languages and the benefits and problems perceived by practitioners. The main finding presented in this paper is that while practitioners experience benefits of modelling for analysis and design, requirements engineering, quality management, implementation and deployment, they still struggle with external tool integration/model transformation and export, cognitive fit, visual expressiveness, high effort required in acquiring skills, automated analysis and high effort required in using tools. Other findings are that modelling is mostly used for documentation and requirements elicitation, the most used modelling language is UML.

Public sector is a large consumer for software. In countries such as Finland, many of the systems are made to order by consultancy companies that participate in public tenders. These tenders initiated by the state, cities, and other public sector organizations. Furthermore, as public sector tasks are often decomposed to various actors, each and every one of them makes their purchase based on their own needs. In this paper, we argue that to maintain software sustainability in this context, there is a need for three key elements. Firstly, there is a need for an enterprise architecture where independent services from various vendors are can be easily deployed and integrated. Secondly, these services are build in a such manner that they can interact via well-defined APIs, but need no direct access to other services. Finally, techniques that support systematic, rapid development and deployment are needed.
