Digital Sovereignty as a strategic concept encompasses equity and sustainability. We explore affordances in Open Source projects that have been initiated to achieve more Digital Sovereignty. Open Source has the potential to be central for Digital Sovereignty. Our primary data set include online interviews with project teams and literature in the context of Digital Sovereignty from 2013 to 2024. By evaluating the project outputs based on affordance theory, we identify digital and economical offerings. The analysis of the impact of these offerings on the projects forms the basis for formulating measures to improve sustainable actions through Digital Sovereignty. With this work we provide a better understanding of IT-enabled organizational change and the types of affordances that are required in Digital Sovereignty transformations.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is disrupting numerous fields of human endeavors, including software startups. While GenAI tools hold the promise of accelerating innovation, improving product quality, and enhancing decision-making, software startups during their inception stage, a phase characterized by high uncertainty and limited resources, may face significant challenges in using these technologies. However, understanding the opportunities and challenges that GenAI brings to software startups is scarce due to the nascent nature of GenAI tools. Our study aims to provide an initial understanding of the intriguing research phenomenon of GenAI application in early-stage software startups. An action case study approach is employed in our study. We examined two software startups within a university setting, focusing on how these teams utilized GenAI tools in the inception stage. The findings revealed 11 opportunities and 10 challenges of using GenAI tools in the inception stage. Novel findings in the startup context include opportunities like brand identity development, generating landing pages, simulating customer feedback, and validating MVP. In contrast, challenges include a function-oriented rather than problem-oriented and a tendency to please rather than provide critical feedback. The findings suggest that while GenAI tools offer valuable benefits for startups, successful adoption requires careful consideration of technical and non-technical factors. This research opens avenues for future studies on integrating GenAI in early-stage software startups.

This study explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing recruitment practices and the skills recruiters need to succeed in AI-driven environment. We conducted a survey using open-ended questions and received responses from 32 professionals. The goal was to understand how AI is influencing the roles and responsibilities of recruiters. The findings highlight the importance of efficiency, bias reduction, learning and improvement, speed and consistency, and data- driven insights in promoting effective collaboration between humans and AI in recruitment. This insight has valuable implications for understanding the impact of AI on recruitment and the essential skills recruiters need to understand and adapt to AI-driven processes.

The Simplified platform is the web-based approach to modelling and meta-modelling. This platform started from the experience with a previous research tool for modelling Design and Engineering Methodology for Organisations (DEMO) and has increased the available notations to OntoUML and ArchiMate. The cloud-based platform's extension ability makes it suitable for research and business applications. The platform's configurable notations, flexible user interface, and real-time transformation, verification, and visualisations make it adaptable and understandable for every stakeholder. This update paper will list the current state of the simplified platform.

While most research focuses on the technical side of blockchain-based solutions, empirical studies with HR professionals and the workforce on verification processes remain limited. This paper aims to resolve these gaps, exploring the issues and processes that need to be considered before utilizing blockchain solutions in recruiting. We collected data using 13 semi-structured interviews among experts who are involved in the applicants' credentials verification process and 1 workshop among applicants. We analyzed the data from interviews using the content analysis approach, focusing on 3 themes, namely key motivators, challenges faced and proposed solutions. These were then validated and expanded during a workshop. Based on the collected data we provide essential design requirements for future systems and align them to all stakeholders involved in the process (individuals, certificate issuers and HR department). Our study extends prior research on blockchain-based verification systems, enhancing collaboration between recruiters and applicants.

The rapid growth of the information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector has led to escalating environmental and social impacts. This study develops and validates the Sustainable ICT Device Acquisition (SIDA) framework and tool, incorporating a Supplier Selection Questionnaire (SSQ) and Sustainability Guidelines to address these challenges. Employing a mixed-methods approach, we identify key barriers and enablers to sustainable ICT procurement. The proposed SIDA tool operationalizes the framework, empowering decision-makers with data-driven insights and comprehensive sustainability information. Workshops with industry practitioners and academic experts validate the tool's potential to raise awareness, streamline supplier evaluation, and enhance decision-making in alignment with sustainability goals. This research contributes a theoretically grounded and empirically validated framework and tool, promoting responsible ICT procurement decisions.

Companies need to continuously innovate to stay competitive. For every innovation, there needs to be a customer, a way to monetize and a way to validate that what is developed adds value to the customer. With digitalization, however, the approach to innovation needs to change. Instead of technology-driven approaches, companies need to adopt more customer-driven approaches to innovation. In this context, we see that companies in the software-intensive embedded systems industry adopt practices that originate in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) domain. This has proven to be far from trivial, and these practices tend to be associated with several myths in the software-intensive embedded systems industry. In this paper, we present multi-case study research in which we identify five myths that permeate software-intensive embedded systems companies and that have become the typical representation of how these companies work, how they interact with customers and how they do business. We explore these myths referring to them as "five darlings to be killed", and we detail what the myth is about, why it is incorrect and what happens in companies instead.

Fairness has recently emerged as a challenging topic in many areas of computer science, as it is related to algorithms supporting decision-making, experimental research, and information access and processing. As (decision-intensive) business processes are inherently using information to reach their goals, their fairness possibly depends on the kind of information they are allowed to access. In this paper, we deal with this aspect and propose some criteria to consider when conceptually specifying business activities and their related information seamlessly through a recently proposed approach based on the concept of Activity View. More specifically, we distinguish equality and equity as two aspects of fairness and discuss how to enforce them in business process design. Their expression according to the specification of Activity Views is formally proposed and discussed in the paper.

Engaging with start-ups has become crucial for large, established firms to drive digital innovation and foster an entrepreneurial culture. Start-ups are valued for their autonomy and freedom of choice. However, giving corporate start-ups (CSs) the right level of autonomy is challenging for firms. Effective CS governance requires balancing integration and independence. While previous research has explored corporate venturing, there is a lack of empirical evidence on the governance mechanisms that foster successful CSs. We conducted 40 semi-structured interviews with CEOs and managers in the German-speaking DACH region to address this, providing unique insights and empirical evidence on CSs. We develop a framework consisting of three dimensions and fourteen underlying mechanisms for managing CS governance and autonomy that can be applied to different situations and objectives. This framework is a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners in corporate entrepreneurship and digital innovation.
