Corporations that employ information systems, such as decision support systems for judgmental forecasts, have business objectives that require accurate forecasts. But the accuracy of these forecasts is most likely biased by organizational and individual structures within the corporation. These biases, such as revenue targets or personal objectives, may alter the forecasters' prediction due to financial incentives in a pre-defined way. This paper argues that model-driven correction of forecasts - which typically utilizes only statistical methods - should incorporate organizational debiasing methods. In a case of an international corporation, local experts forecast cash flows for corporate risk management. The forecasts are later aggregated on a corporate level with subsequent debiasing techniques for decision support. Empirical results show that considering organizational objectives for debiasing techniques can strongly improve forecast accuracy. The total correctable expert error is reduced by up to 60% for all forecasts of a month, providing better decision support for managers.

This is an operational feasibility study on a logistics operator of a supply network of food service. The paper shows an application of concepts of innovation in services and how they can contribute to the operational efficiency gains in the supply network. It is demonstrated through the consolidated data that there was added value in the supply network due to a 50% increase in operational efficiency. The problem discussed in the paper focuses on the transport process upstream of the network, between suppliers and logistics operators. The article highlights the change in the transport process, which has gone from receiving, model Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF), for scheduled collection and milk run, model Free on Board (FOB). On the other hand, the article discusses how the concepts of innovation in services can influence the operational improvements in food service supply network.

The nature of information systems is currently going through a major transition. In the past, information systems managing 'physical processes' and systems managing 'administrative processes' would usually be separated in two different 'worlds'. Now, we see that these worlds need to be tightly coupled or even integrated to deal with developments like the transformation of supply chains to demand chains, just-in-time logistics, servitization and masscustomization of products and services. This causes confusion, as positioning systems and approaches underlying these systems with respect to each other is not easy. Improper positioning may in turn lead to blind spots in system functionality - resulting in the inability to properly support the entire spectrum of business functionality - or replication of functionality - usually resulting in inconsistency of functionality and data. To address this issue, this paper presents a reference framework for advanced flexible information systems, in which existing systems and approaches can be positioned, analyzed and compared. The framework is based on a concept of multi-layer, bimodal flexibility. We apply this framework on a small but representative set of research and development efforts for advanced flexible information systems.

Recent increases in interest in the development of service standards among standards organizations follow the trend of growth in the service sector. This research in progress reviews the relationship between service science research and service standardization to determine whether there are areas of convergence and mutual influence and opportunities to increase exchanges between these two sides for mutual benefit. Service standards published by ISO and current service standards projects were categorized into Types (1) back stage, and (2) front stage of service activities. The definitions of "service" were also extracted from ISO standards to determine their commonality with service science concepts. It was found that ISO service standards were mostly related to back stage of service activities but some increase in projects with front stage orientation was seen. There was scant evidence that the definition of service used in standards had some commonality with service science concepts. Limitations to the research together with recommendations for further work that would foster mutual benefits for both service science research and standards development were discussed.

Software projects typically need to be monitored in detail regarding when what was done in order to demonstrate adherence to methodologies, rules, regulations, guidelines or best practices. To this end, it is of utmost importance to obtain factual knowledge from empirical evidence about the actual software development process. A major problem in this context is the lack of a centralized control of by a central system. Although it is hard to obtain full knowledge of the overall software development process, several cues can be gathered by analyzing pieces of information that are stored by supporting IT systems (e.g., issue trackers and version control). This position paper presents research in progress for extracting process knowledge from the historical data of software artifacts. This work extends the applicability of process mining techniques to software processes.

Prioritization is essential for process decision-making. Organizational decision-makers frequently do not have clear perceptions of which processes are of prime and secondary importance. Further, research does not provide a satisfactory definition of process importance and quantifiable proxies. Thus, this paper derives dimensions of process importance including the number of process executions, involved process stakeholders, customer or supplier involvement, and value chain position from literature, and introduces measurable proxies from information systems for each dimension. The artifact "KeyPro" is developed to explore important processes bottom-up from log data in SAP-ERP systems with visualization in interactive dashboards. As process library, we retrieve 220 processes from 52 process experts across four real-world companies. 773 ERP transactions are matched to these processes to measure which processes constitute important processes along the importance dimensions. We implemented KeyPro in three real-world SAP-ERP systems and a focus group of process experts. An evaluation in two case studies reveals significant deviations between perceptions by decision-makers and the results suggested by KeyPro.

It is claimed that integrating agile and security in practice is challenging. There is the notion that security is a heavy process, requires expertise, and consumes developers' time. These contrast with the agile vision. Regardless of these challenges, it is important for organizations to address security within their agile processes since critical assets must be protected against attacks. One way is to integrate tools that could help to identify security weaknesses during implementation and suggest methods to refactor them. We used quantitative and qualitative approaches to investigate the efficiency of the tools and what they mean to the actual users (i.e. developers) at Telenor Digital. Our findings, although not surprising, show that several barriers exist both in terms of tool's performance and developers' perceptions. We suggest practical ways for improvement.

One important discussion in the software development field is related to the skills that people need to have to build successful software products. This debate is generated on one hand by a large number of failures and delays of software projects. On the other hand, the debate is triggered by the need to build even better-quality software in a rapidly changing world. We will examine to which extent soft skills are relevant when hiring software testers and if there are any specific skills required for agile testers. We analyzed 400 job advertisements for testers from 33 countries, out of which 64% ask for soft skills. Of the advertisements asking for soft skills, there is, on average, a request for 5 soft skills, 11 testing skills, and 5 technical skills. Only 30% of the companies ask explicitly for agile testers. However, our analysis shows no notable differences in skill demands for agile testers and the rest. Software companies want to hire testers who can communicate well and have analytical and problem-solving skills. There is a significant increase in the need for openness and adaptability, independent-working and team-playing since 2012. In addition, there are new categories of soft skills identified, such as having work ethics, customer-focus and the ability to work under pressure.

Nowadays, very often decision making relies on information that is found in the various Internet sources. Preferred are texts of the encyclopedic style, which contain mostly factual information. We propose to combine the logic-linguistic model and the universal dependency treebank to extract facts of various quality levels from texts. Based on Random Forest as a classification algorithm, we show the most significant types of facts and types of words that most affect the encyclopedic-style of the text. We evaluate our approach on four corpora based on Wikipedia, social and mass media texts. Our classifier achieves over 90% F-measure.

Analysing the current state of a process is a crucial step when improving the process. Four elements are defined during the process analysis: the objective, the process model, the indicators and the blocking points. It is important to well-define all of them when characterizing a process state, however the process model has a more fundamental influence. This model provides a map upon which is done the analysis of the process state, prediction of its evolution and simulation of the impact of the change to be undertaken for improving the process. In this work we are proposing a strategy for the model consolidation, that combines the process discovery and business process modeling approach. This strategy aims to merge the models derived by these existing approaches in one unique model that is complete, comprehensive, aligned to the reality and useful for in-depth analysis. This article describes the model consolidation strategy by detailing the steps to be taken and illustrating its usage into a real-life process provided from our industrial collaborator Net Invaders [19].
