In this study, the authors carried out a laboratory experiment with professionals of purchasing departments and examined the effects of negotiation power on the outcome of distributive bargaining. The participants took over the role of buyers and sellers alternatively. Power was operationalized in terms of BATNA, time pressure, asymmetric information and self-constraint based on the different theoretical concepts of power applied in social sciences. The results support the influence of the individual factors as predicted by theory to a very large extent. Especially BATNA, time preferences and information differences have a great influence on negotiation outcomes. Hence, the main purpose of the present paper is to develop a basis for a more consistent operationalization of drivers of bargaining power and its influence on negotiation performance.

Only if the right people equipped with the necessary competencies fulfill the tasks correctly that should be done in their designated roles, the full concept of Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) can be deployed. This topic has been discussed quite rarely in the past. Therefore, this work systematically analyzes manifold EAM literature sources like technical literatures and research papers as well as EA frameworks in order to derive a set of roles in EAM. The results were validated by dint of an expert interview with an EAM practitioner. This paper contributes to the EAM discipline by presenting a generalized overview of EAM roles and relates them to certain EAM tasks and required competencies. Finally, the proposed overview is validated by an expert interview.

The ambivalent paradigm Internet of Things (IoT) is gaining importance in today's industries. To manage the various devices built on different technologies and to apply complex event-triggered business rules to the data streams, platforms are necessary tools for almost all use cases. In the recent years, hundreds of vendors entered the intransparent IoT platform market, from small startups focusing on niches, to large enterprise vendors offering professional solutions. These platforms need tools to orchestrate the interactions between the different sides involved, so-called platform governance mechanisms. The purpose of this multiple case study analysis is to explore the platform governance mechanisms applied in IoT platforms. To achieve this goal, we explored the governance concepts of eight selected platforms in a multiple case study analysis, resulting in a description of the important aspects and differences regarding platform governance. Moreover, the four main trade-offs that platform vendors must be aware of are subsequently discussed. In a last step, an evaluation and discussion of the contribution to theory and practice is provided.

Research shows that cultural differences affect negotiation processes and outcomes in many different ways. In this paper, we examine the interactions between communication processes, language, and cultural differences in dyadic e-negotiations. We use textual analysis methods to measure the language sentiment (also referred to as tone) of the messages. We make use of 9,703 messages (and offers with messages) in 1,147 negotiations conducted with the web-based negotiation support system Inspire. We find evidence that the more positive a message's sentiment, the more positive the sentiment of the next message. Our results indicate that this effect is less pronounced in intercultural negotiations. Furthermore, we observe higher payoffs for the party who initiates the conversation. Initiation reduces the risk of obtaining only a low payoff. Some cultural groups, such as German-speaking Western Europeans, emerge as particularly likely to initiate a negotiation.

Software firms participate in an ecosystem as a part of their innovation strategy to extend value creation beyond the firm's boundary. Participation in an open and independent environment also implies the competition among firms with similar business models and targeted markets. Hence, firms need to consider potential opportunities and challenges upfront. This study explores how software firms interact with others in OSS ecosystems from a coopetition perspective. We performed a quantitative and qualitative analysis of three OSS projects. Finding shows that software firms emphasize the co-creation of common value and partly react to the potential competitiveness on OSS ecosystems. Six themes about coopetition were identified, including spanning gatekeepers, securing communication, open-core sourcing and filtering shared code. Our work contributes to software engineering research with a rich description of coopetition in OSS ecosystems. Moreover, we also come up with several implications for software firms in pursing a harmony participation in OSS ecosystems.

In present, dynamically developing organizations, that often realize business tasks using project-based approach, effective project management is of paramount importance. Numerous reports and scientific papers present lists of critical success factors in project management, and communication management is usually at the very top of the list. But even though the communication practices are found to be associated with most of the success dimensions, they are not given enough attention and the communication processes and practices formalized in the company's project management methodology are neither followed nor prioritized by project managers. This paper aims at supporting project managers and teams in effective managing communication and documentation processes. Its main contribution is the definition of eleven communication management patterns, which promote a context-problem-solution approach to communication management in projects, in the four complementary categories regarding project communication management practices - informational, strategical, emotional and practical, and as such can be used to deal with different types of project communication management problems.

The future smart grid will bring new actors such as local producers, storage capacities and interruptible consumers to the existing electricity grid along with the challenge of sustainability. Intermediary power actors, i.e., brokers, will take the burden of financial management, during the integration of these customers. This paper describes the mathematical modelling, formalization and the design of decision making systems of a winner broker agent, AgentUDE14, which competed in Power Trading Agent Competition 2014 Final (Power TAC). In this work, we divide the main trading problem into sub problems and then formalize and solve them individually to reduce the mathematical complexity. In the wholesale market, we propose a dynamic programming approach whereas our retailer algorithm uses an aggressive tariff publication policy, which exploits tariff fees, such as early withdrawal penalty and bonus payment. We show the results that AgentUDE14 is a successful agent in many metrics, analyzing the tournament data from Power TAC 2014 Finals.

businesses are under increasing pressure to quickly and flexibly adapt their business processes to external and internal software and other changes. Furthermore, to address the rapid change and deployment of software functionality, microservices have emerged as a popular architectural style for partitioning business logic into small services accessible with lightweight mechanisms, resulting in a higher degree of dynamic integration of information services with processes. Current process-aware information systems tend to rely on manually pre-configured static process models and during process enactment exhibit challenges in reacting to unforeseen dynamic changes. This paper presents Microflows, an automatic lightweight declarative approach for the workflow-centric orchestration of semantically-annotated microservices using agent-based clients, graph-based methods, and the lightweight semantic vocabularies JSON-LD and Hydra. A case study shows approach's advantages for automating workflow modeling and enactment in a dynamic microservice environment.

In a changing and competitive business world, business processes are at the heart of modern organizations. In some cases, service level agreements (SLAs) are used to regulate how these business processes are provided. This is usually the case when the business process is outsourced, and some guarantees about how the outsourcing service is provided are required. Although some work has been done concerning the structure of SLAs for business processes, the definition of service level objectives (SLOs) remains a manual task performed by experts based on their previous knowledge and intuition. Therefore, an evidence-based approach that curtails humans involvement is required for the definition of realistic while challenging SLOs. This is the purpose of this paper, where performance-focused process mining, goal programming optimization techniques, and simulation techniques have been availed to implement an evidence-based framework for the definition of SLAs. Furthermore, the applicability of the proposed framework has been evaluated in a case study carried out in a hospital scenario.

By law, stock-listed companies must immediately disclose any information that might influence the valuation of the company in order to ensure a fair supply of information to all interested parties. However, laws and regulations do not specify clear requirements regarding the language used and the exact timing when information may be considered relevant enough for disclosure. Previous research shows that delaying bad news provides more time to adjust the language of an announcement in order to encourage a more optimistic perception. This paper investigates how the positive or negative character of news content influences the daily timing of the announcement and how the timing relates to stock performance. We find that negative messages are slightly longer than positive ones. In addition, announcements released before trading tend to have a more positive sentiment than those released during intraday trading, which may reflect a longer preparation time.
