The Power TAC simulation emphasizes the strategic problems that broker agents face in managing the economics of a smart grid. The brokers must make trades in multiple markets and, to be successful, brokers must make many good predictions about future supply, demand, and prices in the wholesale and tariff markets. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility of using learning strategies to improve the performance of our broker, SPOT. Specifically, we investigate the use of decision trees and neural networks to predict the clearing price in the wholesale market and the use of reinforcement learning to learn good strategies for pricing our tariffs in the tariff market. Our preliminary results show that our learning strategies are promising ways to improve the performance of the agent for future competitions.

Crowdsourcing knows a large expansion in recent years. It is widely used as a low-cost alternative to guess the true labels of training data in machine learning problems. In fact, crowdsourcing platforms such as Amazon's Mechanical Turk allow to collect from crowd workers multiple labels aggregated thereafter to infer the true label. As the workers are not always reliable, imperfect labels can occur. In this work, we propose an approach that aggregates labels using the belief function theory besides of adaptively integrating both labelers expertise and question difficulty. Experiments with real data demonstrate that our method provides better aggregation results.

In recent years, a multitude of techniques has been proposed for the task of clustering traces. In general, these techniques either focus on optimizing their solution based on a certain type of similarity between the traces, such as the number of insertions and deletions needed to transform one trace into another;by mapping the traces onto a vector space model, based on certain patterns in each trace;or on the quality of a process model discovered from each cluster. Currently, the main technique of the latter category, ActiTraC, constructs its clusters based on a single objective: fitness. However, a typical view in process discovery is that one needs to balance fitness, generalization, precision and simplicity. Therefore, a multi-objective approach to trace clustering is deemed more appropriate. In this paper, a thorough overview of current trace clustering techniques and potential approaches for multi-objective trace clustering is given. Furthermore, a multi-objective trace clustering technique is proposed. Our solution is shown to provide unique results on a number of real-life event logs, validating its existence.

This paper develops a framework for characterising the design space of information Infrastructures (IIs). Existing research has generally sought to unravel the convergent characteristics and mechanisms uniting IIs across a wide range of manifestations. In this research, we explore this divergence within the II design space. We do so by reviewing the II literature, focusing on the two domains of design situation and design resolution. Design situation refers to the relevant dimensions of the context in which an II is employed. Design resolution covers the dimensions along which the socio-technical constituents can be assembled to form an effective solution. The resulting framework allows for the comparing and contrasting of II initiatives, and contributes towards a cumulative knowledge process aimed at a more refined understanding of how an II can be configured to address the specific problem at hand.

Team recommendation is a key and little-explored aspect within the area of business process management. The efficiency with which the team is conformed may influence the success of the process execution. The formation of work teams is often done manually, without a comparative analysis based on multiple criteria between the individual performance of the resources and their collective performance in different teams. In this article, we present a multi-criteria framework to allocate work teams dynamically. The framework considers four elements: (i) a resource request characterization, (ii) historical information on the process execution and expertise information, (iii) different metrics which calculate the suitability of the work teams taking into account both individual performance as well as collective performance of the resources, and (iv) a recommender system based on the Best Position Algorithm (BPA2) to obtain a ranking for the recommended work teams. A software development process was used to test the usefulness of our approach.

In this paper we analyze the problem of recognizing the cognitive heuristics, in particular the errors of perception and information processing, and their impact on the activities of negotiators undertaken in the prenegotiation phase to define, structure and analyze the negotiation problem. We focus on evaluating and analyzing the impact of scaling biases on the accuracy and concordance of negotiation offer scoring systems with the preferential information provided to negotiating agents by their principals. In our study we use the dataset of bilateral electronic negotiations conducted by means of Inspire negotiation support system, which provides users with decision support tools for preference based on direct rating approach. The results of experiments confirm the necessity of building the heuristics-sensitive decision support tools for negotiation support.

Given the ever-increasing volume of information in financial markets, investors must rely on aggregated secondary data sources. Such data sources include indices such as the Ifo business Climate Index in Germany or the Purchasing Manager Index (PMI) in the United States. However, such indices typically require one to interview experts and are thus cost-intensive and only published with a certain time lag. In contrast, we suggest evaluating the role of sentiment encoded in the mandatory, stock-relevant disclosures of stock-listed companies on various economic indicators. Such sentiment analysis builds on primary information, which covers a large share of the economy, comes at little cost and can reflect new information instantaneously. Our results suggest that such a sentiment analysis explains moves in stock indices and macroeconomic factors, namely the new order flow and unemployment rate.

Although research exists on business Process Management (BPM) maturity models, few studies report on their practical use. This paper explores the situational needs and practitioner's views on assessing BPM maturity. Data triangulation uncovered different applications in Swedish industry and public sector organizations through three phases: (1) data collection in a practitioner-driven BPM maturity model design, (2) validation of the design in a workshop and follow-up interviews, and (3) testing the BPM maturity model by practitioners. The basic assumption is that a generic BPM maturity model will most likely not fit all organizations. Therefore, a framework is presented with elements (e.g. scope and measures) for a BPM maturity model to be customized to an organization's needs, supplemented by a practical ` tailoring template'. The framework and template contribute to the BPM discipline with a Swedish example, and allows twelve design propositions with recommendations to simplify the application of BPM maturity models and enhance their fit.

Real-life processes are typically less structured and more complex than expected by stakeholders. For this reason, process discovery techniques often deliver models less understandable and useful than expected. In order to address this issue, we propose a method based on statistical inference for pre-processing event logs. We measure the distance between different segments of the event log, computing the probability distribution of observing activities in specific positions. Because segments are generated based on time-domain, business rules or business management system properties, we get a characterisation of these segments in terms of both business and process aspects. We demonstrate the applicability of this approach by developing a case study with real-life event logs and showing that our method is offering interesting properties in term of computational complexity.

Starting with a new product in a new market brings companies a lot of risks and costs. There are companies, who can provide generic scoring models, but usually the accuracy of generic models is not sufficient and they are expensive. The possibility to create a generic predictive model based on a similar country model has been studied. The European Values Study and GESIS Data Archive have been used for research and the similarity coefficient has been calculated and used in the model. The results show that it is possible to build a new model using data from another, similar country and thus minimize costs and risks.
