The ENCRYPT project, an innovative collaborative project under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme, will integrate privacy-preserving technologies across three key sectors, aiming to revolutionize the way sensitive data is processed and protected. This white paper outlines the project's core methodologies and applications, including the use of Fully Homomorphic Encryption, Trusted Execution Environments, Differential Privacy and advanced Hybrid Protection Services. Through its platform, ENCRYPT seeks to address the challenge of ensuring data privacy and utility, across federated data spaces within the EU. This is essential towards ENCRYPT's compliance with GDPR standards while enabling secure and efficient data processing activities. ENCRYPT use cases stem from the domains of Fintech, Health and Cybersecurity and through this, the versatility and impact of its results and activities will be presented. Each use case leverages the project's cutting-edge privacy-preserving technologies to safeguard data while still allowing for data-analytics to occur and enabling decision-making. From securing financial transactions, achieving patient data confidentiality and strengthening defenses against cyber threats, ENCRYPT's use cases showcase the project's innovations in privacy technology. This paper serves as an essential guide for ENCRYPT, where stakeholders from industry, academia and the ecosystem, can gain insights into the project's objectives, methodologies and potential to shape the future of data privacy and security.

Undoubtedly, even though the blockchain constitutes a big opportunity for the organizations of all the industries, the virtues of this technology cannot be harnessed without an adequate level of managerial skills. Despite the emphasis that has been given on the impact of top management support on blockchain adoption throughout the literature, there is shortage of research papers exploring the blockchain-related knowledge that the technology managers should obtain. This study comprises an initial attempt to cover this literature gap by explicating the adoption of blockchain through the lens of the five technology management processes proposed within the Gregory's framework (identification, selection, acquisition, exploitation, protection). By performing a literature review, this research paper detects twenty-three critical strategic questions and segments them into the five processes of technology management. In addition, regarding every single question, it presents possible answers deriving from the bibliography. From the academics' side, this study suggests a synthesis of multiple issues pertaining to the wide topic of blockchain adoption, while it comprises the first step to develop the theory of the necessary blockchain-related knowledge from the angle of technology managers. From the practical point of view, it informs technology managers about several questions that they will have to respond to during the forthcoming blockchain-based era and instruct them on how to make the most suitable options. Being informed about diverse issues around blockchain implementation, the technology managers can considerably contribute to the success of enterprise blockchain projects.

The Intent-Based Networks (IBN) are believed to be the future of the networking. They incorporate the advantages of many modern networking paradigms. It is believed that they may operate in a globally optimal manner de-coupling the data and control plane as the SDNs. Resource management is conducted with the use of the virtual networks concept. However, in opposite to the classic networks, IBNs are configured automatically, and the objectives and requirements are given by administrators and users as high-level business intents. In this paper, we introduce the idea of the machine learning based management system that enables IBN to operate according to its paradigm. We present the usage of our system to perform virtual network admission control tasks. We present the results of some initial simulations that were conducted to verify our approach. The outcomes of the experiments are very promising.

Open data can lead to more efficient and effective decision-making processes in both the public and private sectors. By making data available, users can better analyse trends, identify inefficiencies, and optimize resource allocation. Consequently, open data assessment plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality, integrity, accessibility, and impact of open data initiatives. It supports informed decision-making, promotes data-driven innovation, and enhances trust and accountability in data ecosystems. This paper applies the method of systematic review for identifying, extracting and analysing the principal methodologies for open data assessment. The most mature proposals have been selected and compared by using a formal framework, extracting the key requirements that an integrated and unified open data assessment framework should have, and providing the first steps towards its definition. Four methodologies were identified from a systematic review of literature. The comparison results critically identify and synthesize the research in open data assessment area. The paper concludes with suggestions on how to improve assessment practice and recommendations for future research.

Cloud computing is cementing its presence in IT strategies and CIOs' priorities across industries. Companies have been heavily adopting different cloud services and integrating them into their IT portfolios. Meanwhile, research has been striving to understand, articulate, and explore the cloud ecosystem. Using 13 expert interviews and 3 case studies, and while applying transaction costs theories, this research contributes to the explicitness of cloud computing. This paper introduces a new concept, that should be added to existing cloud computing ontologies: Meta-Services. The paper provides a working definition for cloud Meta-Services and explains their inter-relationships with other cloud services and available ontologies. It also discusses four examples of Meta-Services that emerge during the cloud adoption journey. This discussion and conceptualization of MetaServices will help cloud customers make more informed decisions about their entire cloud adoption journey. It will also help cloud providers make more realistic promises to their customers.

Open data ecosystems are complex socio-technical systems. Various research studies analyze the components, actors, roles, and their relations in order to provide a better understanding of the ecosystem and the value it creates. Even though the previous studies identify the basic elements of the open data ecosystems, there is a research gap towards their connection with the infrastructural elements that support their inclusion and well-functioning in the ecosystem. The current study addresses this gap by applying a systematic literature review to identify the actors and their roles, as well as how these roles are connected to the open data infrastructural elements. As a result, a conceptual model of this analysis has been created.

The world happens to be in an era where it has predominantly shifted to a technological domain. The shift from a traditional approach into a world dominated by technology, particularly in the aftermath of the global pandemic, had a profound effect on numerous dimensions of life, notably in academia. To prepare learners for anticipated technological breakthroughs, it is important to expose them to interactive educational settings and methodologies that will provide them with an in-depth learning experience. This research aims to enhance experiential learning of project management methodologies using immersive learning environments using VR, AR, and MR, to prepare future project managers for change in the future. More specifically, findings from this research will help in the development of a VR/AR-enabled learning software, where learners can learn PM methodologies of choice individually, and apply the knowledge gained in a group setting, to enhance their understanding of project management concepts. Furthermore, to determine the adoption of this technology, a quantitative survey will be carried out with about 200 participants, where questions relating to the UTAUT model will be asked to determine the factors that will influence adoption.

This paper discusses the integration of assets in a federated ecosystem in alignment with the Gaia-X framework, with a focus on semantics and Access Control Mechanisms (ACMs). The Gaia-X project, intended to support data and service ecosystems, aids data integration and valorisation in public and industrial settings, promoting data exchange among diverse stakeholders. However, its scope does not extend beyond delineating the service access point or providing a unified semantic description for the operation of the service or data. Additionally, it doesn't provide clear guidance on ACMs. Our proposed solution uses the V-Model methodology for a systematic progression from use case conception to implementation, coupling high-level ecosystem frameworks with existing decentralized semantically described resources. This approach enhances usability, lowers entry barriers, and facilitates operationalisation within the ecosystem, while enabling precise access control.

While mineral resources significantly bolster the wealth of certain regions, such as the north of Europe, they also represent a paradox where wealth leads to conflicts rather than fostering local development. This situation is further complicated by the clash between sustainable development ideals and the reality of survival, which inadvertently strengthens support for mining in local governance. Furthermore, the concept of green growth, which suggests that economic expansion and environmental sustainability can coexist harmoniously, is still under scrutiny. These factors collectively spotlight a complex dilemma: balancing the promise of sustainable development and green transition against the challenges of promoting local development and environmental stewardship. Addressing this emerging complexity requires participatory and inclusive approaches to citizen engagement, not only to democratize societies, but also to achieve the higher levels of intelligence required for decision-making and governance. However, there is a considerable lack of knowledge about the latter, so this paper stresses the pervasiveness of information and communication technologies, which allows for leveraging digital spaces for dialogue and collaborations among stakeholders. To bridge this gap between digital and social innovation, this paper reviews the literature to answer the question of how innovative digital technologies support addressing such societal development dilemmas collaboratively. A specific focus is on how AI-enhanced digital platforms can contribute to overcome the associated problems in society and foster innovative, informed, and transformative approaches to environmental sustainability and co-governance practices. It highlights the necessity of harnessing the synergy between human and artificial intelligence on these platforms.

Addressing the lack of knowledge on sustainability and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs) is essential for global development. Emerging technologies hold immense potential for educating and training in SDGs. This paper presents a pilot project in higher education applying the Design Thinking Methodology to design a novel Virtual Reality (VR) training solution to raise awareness about sustainability and the UN-SDGs through handson experiential training. The paper presents the design journey for designing the VR environment prototype focusing on three SDGs advancing through five phases (Research and Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test). Preliminary results highlight the urgent need for immersive educational resources on sustainability and the SDGs, with VR-based training showing promising potential. Low-fidelity 2D and 3D prototypes presented as the first step of designing and developing a VR-based training solution on three selected SDGs demonstrate the opportunities of adopting VR for promoting UN-SDGs. Creating such an innovative VR training tool will advance theoretical and practical realms enhancing understanding of the 17 SDGs through immersive experiences.
