business processes have proven to be essential for organisations to be highly flexible and competitive in today's markets. However, good process management is not enough to survive in a market if the according IT landscape is not aligned to the business processes. Especially industries focused on software products are facing big problems if the according processes are not aligned to the overall software system architecture. Often, a lot of development resources are spent for features which are never addressed by any business goals, leading to unnecessary development costs. In this paper, we will present a framework for an automatic, order process driven, software configuration. For this, modern software product line engineering techniques are used to provide a systematic way to align the variability of the order processes with the software architecture.

One of the most indicated reasons for ERP implementation failure is that the organization failed to recognize the impact the system would have on business processes. A possible solution to this could be to use an approach focusing on process change when implementing ERP systems. In this research paper, we take a look at Enterprise Resource Planning systems implementation from a business Process Management point of view. It attempts to improve ERP implementations, which are frequently unsuccessful, with insight provided through the BPM Paradigm. The focus lies on the phases and activities in the two concepts as well as defined success factors which targeting the similar objectives. The data collection was conducted in the form of interviews with respondents from two companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia that conducts ERP implementations. It was concluded that the first four phases of BPM fit the frameworks of ERP implementation. What authors found interesting is findings suggesting the main enabling activity to be process modelling. Also CFS for ERP and BPM were compared, and the conclusion is that both are targeting similar aspects-operational business processes.

The information Systems (IS) community has long recognized the importance of studying quality at various stages of the IS design process. Many studies target the quality factors at various stages of design and development. However, research about the factors that specifically affect the quality of IS integration remains largely fragmented. Existing quality frameworks fail to cover integration-specific factors. This motivates the need for a holistic model of integration quality. The paper proposes two artefacts to address this need. It explores the literature of related domains, including systems, model, and process quality to elicit the quality factors that are relevant in the context of IS integration. The factors can be used to evaluate the quality of integration solutions during design and development. The paper also proposes a quality model to describe the quality of the design components of integration solutions following the principles of model-driven development. The model enables the quality factors to be associated with other parts of the IS integration design. The proposed factors are evaluated with the help of expert feedback using a questionnaire, and the quality model is demonstrated with an example business case.

In this paper, we propose an approach for evaluating remediation alternatives at the Zapadnoe uranium mill tailings site in a group decision-making context. The approach relies on both interval values and a linguistic term scale to valuate the alternative impacts and ordinal information about the relative importance of criteria. Monte Carlo simulation techniques are used to exploit imprecision to compute a fuzzy dominance matrix for each DM, taking into account the corresponding ordinal information about weights. Then a fuzzy dominance measuring method is used to derive the corresponding rankings of remediation alternatives. Finally, they are aggregated taking into account their relative importance to reach a consensus ranking.

business process management systems incorporate the possibility of monitoring the behaviour of a company, by observing their business process indicators. Depending on the process executed, and the order of their performances, certain KPIs can be modified to render the company more competitive. This paper proposes the creation of a model-based fuzzy logic that can represent the relation between KPIs and the business processes of the companies. The use of this graph enables business experts to simulate the evolution of the business according to the decisions taken in the governance process, thereby helping in governance activities.

Crosscutting concerns in business processes have been addressed, among other forms, under the aspects orientation paradigm. The goal is reducing visualization complexity, allowing reuse and improving maintainability. Literature presents techniques that address aspects in BPM lifecycle stages of modeling and implementation. However, those techniques adopt different semantical representations, making the integration between those stages very difficult. This paper proposes a service identification method to select an implementation for aspects in order to meet goals set in the modeling stage. We describe an artifact produced with this purpose within an application scenario where Web Services are discovered and selected during a process execution. We conclude that aspects' behavior can be flexible and adaptable at runtime.

We focus on voters' preference profiles where at least two of the three selected voting rules (e.g. plurality, Borda count, and anti-plurality) produce different outcomes-thus, the voting body needs a procedural choice. While this situation evokes an infinite regress argument for the choice of rules to choose rules to choose rules to. and so on, we introduce a new concept named regress convergence, where every voting rule in the menu ultimately gives the same outcome within the finite steps of regress. We study the mechanism of this phenomenon in a large consequential society having a triplet of scoring rules. The results show that, in the menu of plurality, Borda count, and anti-plurality, the probability that the regress convergence happens is 98.2% under the Impartial Culture assumption and 98.8% under the Impartial Anonymous Culture assumption.

Current automated methods to identify erroneous or malicious executions of a business process from logs, metrics, or other observable effects are based on detecting deviations from the normal behavior of the process. This requires a "single model of normative behavior": the current execution either conforms to that model, or not. In this paper, we propose a method to automatically distinguish different behaviors during the execution of a process, so that a timely reaction can be triggered, e.g., to mitigate the risk of an ongoing attack. The behavioral classes are learned from event logs of a process, including branching probabilities and event frequencies. Using this method, harmful or problematic behavior can be identified during or even prior to its occurrence, raising alarms as early as undesired behavior is observable. The proposed method has been implemented and evaluated on a set of artificial logs capturing different types of exceptional behavior. Pushing the method to its edge in this evaluation, we provide a first assessment of where the method can clearly discriminate between classes of behavior, and where the differences are too small to make a clear determination.

NOMIS is an innovative human centred information systems modelling approach that is based on human observable actions. It seeks to deliver the desired objectivity and precision required in information systems development. From a theoretical perspective, NOMIS offers a vision into an information System (IS) using different views that are complimentary, comprehensive and consistent. Some of these views are adaptations and extensions of the theoretical IS insights provided by the theories of Organisational Semiotics, the Theory of Organised Activity and Enterprise Ontology. From a practical perspective, NOMIS proposes a modelling notation that uses a set of tables and diagrams to represent NOMIS vision and views. In this paper, we will provide an overview of NOMIS and we will describe NOMIS modelling elements and notation. A case study of a course system is used to show a practical example of modelling with NOMIS that includes a real system created using the NOMIS approach.

Paired transactions or paired transfers have their origin in accountancy systems. Resource-Event-Agent (REA) ontology uses paired transactions as a basic building block for business process modelling. A business process (REA model) is composed of two kinds of paired transactions which stand for provide (give) and receive (take) transactions (transfers). The REA core pattern which comes from double-booking entry, constitutes the basic structure from which the REA model is further extended. The REA model was previously depicted by ER diagrams, and later by UML class diagrams. However, neither of these diagrams were designed to capture conceptual models which are more precise and comprehensible for domain experts, and easy to modify. ORM (Object Role Modeling) is a Fact-Based Modeling methodology that represents an approach to conceptual modelling that fulfils the requirements. The article presents fact-based models of paired transactions corresponding to the REA core pattern and REA exchange model. These models were created and verified by NORMA (Natural ORM Architect) and provide both semantic stability and semantic relevance, which is necessary for further incorporating the REA modeling approach into fact-based modeling methodologies of business processes.
