The act of retrieving process models from event-based data logs can offer valuable information to business owners. Many approaches have been proposed for this purpose, mining for either a procedural or declarative outcome. A blended approach that combines both process model paradigms exists and offers a great way to deal with process environments which consist of different layers of flexibility. In this paper, it will be shown how to check such models for correctness, and how this checking can contribute to retrieving the models as well. The approach is based on intersecting both parts of the model and provides an effective way to check (i) whether the behavior is aligned, and (ii) where the model can be improved according to errors that arise along the respective paradigms. To this end, we extend the functionality of Fusion Miner, a mixed-paradigm process miner, in a way to inspect which amount of flexibility is right for the event log. The procedure is demonstrated with an implemented model checker and verified on real-life event logs.

The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is seen as an important step towards environmental sustainability. Perhaps not surprising, many governments all around the world are providing incentives for consumers to buy electric vehicles (EVs). A positive response from consumers means that the demand for the charging infrastructure increases as well. We investigate how an existing traditional parking lot, upgraded with chargers, can suit the present demand for charging stations. In particular, a resulting EV-enabled parking lot is an electricity trading agent (i.e., broker) which acts as an energy retailer and as a player on a target electricity market. In this paper, we use agent-based simulation to present the EV-enabled parking lot ecosystem in order to model the underlying dynamics and uncertainties regarding parking lots with electricity trading agent functionalities. We instantiate our agent-based simulations using real-life data in order to perform the what-if analysis. Several key performance indicators (KPIs), including parking utilization, charging utilization and electricity utilization, are proposed. We also illustrate how those KPIs can be used to choose the effective investment strategy with respect to the number and speed of chargers.

The crowdsourcing Tripadvisor platform do not offer a multi-criteria filtering functionality for their users. Thus, these users are obliged to choose only one criteria to filter a query's results. In this paper, we introduce a new skyline operator, in the context of belief functions theory, to meet the multi-criteria filtering objective. The queried data, modeled with the theory of belief functions, takes into account all reviews and also reviewers' reliabilities. Experiments show interesting results of the proposed skyline operator in terms of size and performance.

During the last years the number of innovative ICT systems, applications and tools has been growing still to support business performance. However, advanced ICT solutions are only means to the end of better process performance, not a substitute for it. Intelligent enterprises that are knowledge driven organizations running their activity in increasingly dynamic, complex and uncertain environment. The aim of paper is the discussion about the wide spectrum of ICT solutions used by the intelligent enterprise and their meaning in the management of intelligent organization. The study results show that ICT drivers empowering the intelligent enterprise are: mobile workforce integration and management, smart virtual workplace, e-collaboration tools, business flexibility and prediction, scalability and customization, learning machines and systems, business continuity management, converting data into business intelligence. This is one of the first approach in this case that the author is going to continue in the advanced research.

The main aim of this article is to show the characteristics of individuals playing computer games (e-gamers), their styles and predispositions of play and possibilities of their application in the plays for didactic process. In order to present the relevant data, the authors limited the study sample to a selected group of individual users. In this paper the authors presented the commonalities of gamers, their approach towards participation in games, the awareness of potential changes or improvements in the area, psychological results of games and ability to use them in the games used in didactic process. Authors also held discussions concerning the obtained solutions and drew conclusions based on the present stage of research.

The goal of this work is to estimate and validate computational models of dynamic decision making against data on sequences of actual decisions made in naturalistic settings. While this paradigm has its roots in laboratory studies under controlled conditions, increasing instrumentation of operational environments is enabling parallel investigations in field settings. Here, decision processes associated with the dispatch of debris removal personnel and equipment are investigated using data from a series of tornado storms in the State of Alabama in 2011. A multi-faceted approach to model validation is presented, thereby illustrating how objective, operational data may be used to inform models of complete decision making processes.

business intelligence (BI) has attracted considerable attention in the past years with such emerging technologies as predictive analytics, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Despite the hype, BI frequently suffers from broad definitions, unrealistic expectations, and the incongruities of IT needs between headquarters and local business units. We are conducting an exploratory study at a large international manufacturing firm headquartered in the EU. The firm wants to transform itself from a conservative firm with traditional values to a more entrepreneurial and nimble organization with its supply chains driven by Industry 4.0 and the IoT. This research-in-progress paper reports the preliminary findings on how the firm is going through its transformation, focusing on the BI system. The initial findings of our interviews suggest that firms consider BI to be the enabler of change management rather than simply technical tools that extend the traditional systems environment.

business processes need to conform with many regulations. These regulations usually cross over many business processes, so a change in one regulation can affect many business processes. To apply such a change, the systems that support these processes need to be audited and changed accordingly. Aspect-Oriented business Process Management is a paradigm that aims to solve this problem by encapsulating these regulations separately from the core process models. To enact these models, two approaches are defined, named static and dynamic weaving. These approaches support enactment of these models effectively, yet they cannot address the management of non-retroactive regulations effectively. This gap hinders the management of business processes in organizations. Therefore, this paper proposes a third approach called hybrid weaving to fill this gap. The operational semantics of this approach is defined formally, and it is verified using state space analysis technique. This approach enables management of retroactive and non-retroactive regulations by weaving them into core process models at configuration time and run time. The result also enabled us to distinguish a new sort of process flexibility that can be offered when managing business processes.

Many civil wars have been terminated with a peace agreement that ends the fighting, but these agreements have not always resulted in lasting peace. Earlier research on peace agreements has missed important points during which justice principles can play a role in establishing durable peace - during the negotiation process itself (procedural justice: PJ) and as incorporated into the negotiated outcome (distributive justice: DJ). Nor has the earlier research simultaneously considered the variety of dimensions that define durable peace, including reconciliation, security reform, governance, and economic growth. This study fills these gaps by examining the relationship between the justice and peace variables in 50 civil wars. Our analyses show that PJ and DJ led to more stable agreements and to a more durable peace: A significant time-lagged path from the justice to peace variables was demonstrated. The results suggest that just negotiation processes and outcomes are important contributors to peace.

Software producing organizations are contributing increasingly to open source software, by making their software open source or contributing to existing projects. Platform leaders contribute to open source software in different manners, but for whose interests are these companies contributing to open source software? Are contributions made by software developers as part of a software vendor or do these software producing organizations want to do what is right without benefits? So how do platform leaders contribute to open source software? By analyzing the data from GitHub repositories, the contributions to open source software by three platform leaders is researched in two dimensions, how are the developers connected and to which projects do these developers contribute. By analyzing their connectedness and analyzing the developed projects, the conclusion is drawn that contributions are made for the strategic advantage of the software producing organizations. The majority of the contributions made to open source software is to their own projects and by developers who contribute to these projects fulltime.
