Process modeling constitutes a fundamental task in the context of process-aware information systems. Besides process model creation, the reading and understanding of process models is of utmost importance. To better understand the latter, we have developed a conceptual framework focusing on the comprehension of business process models. By adopting concepts from cognitive neuroscience and psychology, the paper presents initial results from a series of eye tracking experiments on process model comprehension. The results indicate that experiences with process modeling have an influence on overall model comprehension. In turn, with increasing process model complexity, individuals with either no or advanced expertise in process modeling do not significantly differ with respect to process model comprehension. The results further indicate that both groups face similar challenges in reading and comprehending process models. The conceptual framework takes these results into account and provides the basis for the further experiments.

Though experience on teaching and learning workflow-based business process modeling exists and is partly documented, this is not true for other types of business process modeling. Even if such experience exists, it is not documented in research publications devoted to process modeling or BPM education. This paper tries to fill the gap by reporting on experience of teaching and learning state-oriented business process modeling, which does not belong to the mainstream. The report gives both the teacher's and learner's perspective from a course where state-oriented process modeling was in the focus. The material is partly based on the reflections from the authors, one of whom is a learner, and the other - a teacher, and partly - on an investigation of opinions of other learners via interviews and a small-scale survey. The paper considers difficulties of teaching/learning state-oriented modeling, of which some does not exist for other types of process modeling, and gives suggestions on how they can be overcome.

The goal of this paper is to contribute to efforts of improving the business Process Modelling (BPM) practice. We present an original method for converting 0enterprise ontology Design & Engineering Method for Organisations (DEMO) process models into a BPMN 2.0 notation. By this approach, we are able to mitigate certain methodological deficiencies of BPMN. The method exhibits the following qualities: Implementation of the complete transaction pattern formulated by the PSI-theory, correct managing of multiple child transaction instances, and executability of the resulting BPMN model.

Persuasive technology capitalizes on the use of technology and the art of persuasion to change the behaviors and attitudes of people without the use of coercion. They have been used at workplaces to achieve positive outcomes like increase in employee motivation, engagement and productivity. While a number of researchers have investigated the effectiveness of Cialdini's principles of persuasion, little or no research has been conducted in the context of work environments. In many workplaces, it is important that employees provide detailed records of their activities for easy tracking of an organization's day-to-day activities and future historical reference. However, research has shown that some employees find it difficult to comply. In an attempt to address this problem, we carried out a pilot study among 20 healthcare Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA) frontline employees, working with autistic patients. The study is aimed at investigating how effective Cialdini's principles of persuasion are in motivating employees to record details about the sessions they have with patients. A Two-Way Mixed ANOVA analysis showed that ABA frontline employees are most susceptible to Commitment and Reciprocity, followed by Authority, and least susceptible to Consensus and Scarcity. These results suggest that designers of gamified persuasive systems tailored to healthcare ABA frontline staff should focus on implementing Commitment, Reciprocity and Authority as persuasive strategies aimed at motivating them in engaging in sufficient and quality data entry.

The paper proposes a metamodel for ISO 27001 and its mapping with COBIT 5 using ArchiMate, an Enterprise Architecture (EA) modeling language. The metamodel's purpose is to reduce the perceived complexity of implementing these Enterprise Governance of IT (EGIT) practices simultaneously. For the ontological mapping to be complete, the metamodel is extended with the ISO Technical Specification 33052 and 33072 which propose a Process Reference Model and a Process Assessment Model respectively, specifying Base Practices and information Items from the ISO TS 33072 - composing the ISO TS 33052 processes - mapped to ISO 27001 controls. By applying best-known metamodeling techniques and modeling principles in conjunction with the use of EA models we further simplify the understanding of different EGIT practices by providing a standard based visualization on how these practices work together. Furthermore, we present the mapping and modeling of a COBIT 5 process and respective ISO 27001 controls as an example. The paper concludes by summarizing the considerations and techniques used in this research, as well as discussing limitations and future work in this domain.

The concept of Service-Oriented Architecture, where individual services can be combined to accomplish more complex tasks, provides a flexible and reusable approach to application development. Their composition can be performed manually, however doing so may prove to be challenging if many service alternatives with differing qualities are available. Evolutionary Computation (EC) techniques have been employed successfully to tackle this problem, especially Genetic Programming (GP), since it is capable of encoding conditional constraints on the composition's execution paths. While compositions can naturally be represented as Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs), GP needs to encode candidates as trees, which may pose conversion difficulties. To address that, this work proposes an extension to an existing EC approach that represents solutions directly as DAGs. The tree-based and extended graph-based composition approaches are compared, showing significant gains in execution time when using graphs, sometimes up to two orders of magnitude. The quality levels of the solutions produced, however, are somewhat higher for the tree-based approach. This, in addition to a convergence test, shows that the genetic operators employed by the graph-based approach can be potentially improved. Nevertheless, the extended graph-based approach is shown to be capable of handling compositions with multiple conditional constraints, which is not possible when using the tree-based approach.

Multi Agent Systems (MAS) have been incorporated in numerous engineering applications including power systems. In recent years, with the advancement in information and Communication Technology (ICT), Internet of Things (IoT) and smarter devices, this concept has become more and more applicable to grid management. Microgrids, as part of distribution grid are subject to continuous variation in demand, generation and grid conditions. Also, due to private ownership of some or all part of the microgrid (at least in the demand side), and privacy concerns of data transmitted, intelligent and independent agents could be used in management process by representing each component of the grid as an agent. As the importance of storage systems (especially batteries) is increasing with the higher penetration of the renewable energy into the electricity grid, proper battery management becomes vital in efficient microgrid management. In this paper, we focus on battery agent and propose three strategies for battery management in the multi agent based microgrid management framework. We also investigate the effect of each strategy on the total costs as well as the battery itself. In this system, the agents of different components are independent and they collaboratively communicate with each other to fulfil a global objective which is set to be minimising the total costs.

The ways of communication and social interactions are changing and web users are becoming increasingly engaged with Online Social Networks (OSN). This fact has significantly impact in the relationship mechanisms between companies and customers. Thus, a new approach to perform Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is arising, the Social CRM (SCRM). Aiming to identify state of art, a literature review was conducted to demonstrate the current state of knowledge about the topic. In addition, expert interviews and events organized by researchers involved in this project, helped in challenges validation. As main contributions, it is possible to highlight: (i) identification, categorization and discussion of SCRM most prominent challenges;and (ii) construction of a SCRM service portfolio;(iii) estimation of the distance between state of art and state of practice. Therefore, the results obtained point out a number of future research directions, demonstrating that Social Customer Relationship Management is an emerging and promising research topic.

The reuse of IT solutions plays an important role, as it enables organizations to develop services more quickly and at reduced cost, and promotes greater interoperability, standardization and cooperation. Organizations increasingly include the reuse principle in their Enterprise architecture (EA) development vision. However, they often lack methods for comprehensive evaluation of changes in Application Architecture (AA) including assessment of reuse of AA components. In this paper, we outline a method for AA change evaluation. The objective of the proposed method is to provide support for establishing a controlled environment for AA change implementation planning to meet defined EA principles. In this paper, we focus on the reuse principle, however the approach can be also adapted for change assessment with regards to other principles such as centralization and standardization.

Due to the changes in global markets, companies strive for attracting and retaining customers in various ways. The paper investigates the problem of product configuration knowledge management in a customer-oriented way and how it has been solved. The authors' vision of required improvements in business processes and knowledge-based systems at the considered company is shared. Nevertheless, the presented work can give significant input to achieve benefits for component manufacturers that tend to become system vendors in general.
