Poor data quality may be a cause for problems in organizational processes. There are numerous methods to assess and improve quality of data within information systems, however they often do not address the original source of these problems. This paper presents a conceptual solution for dealing with the data quality issue within information systems. It focuses on analysis of business processes being a source of requirements for information systems design and development. This analysis benefits information quality requirements, in order to improve data quality within systems emerging from these requirements.

Churn is the opposite of growth. Losing customers has serious impact on company's overall performance. More specifically, means lost in sales and revenue, but also negative sentiment and potential negative impact to organization's image for the competition. The increased importance of managing churn in subscription-based organizations, lead various efforts by subscription-based organizations to face the problem. Both, academic researchers and business practitioners, focusing on techniques around customer behavior forecasting. During the last years, various technologies have been used to forecast customer behavior in subscription-based organizations. To investigate further this area this paper aims to report on the research issues around customer churn and investigate previous customer churn prediction approaches in order to propose a new conceptual model for customer behavior forecasting.

Usually, enterprise models consider different aspects and include different abstraction levels of enterprises. It is hence challenging to integrate these models and to maintain their consistency. In the light of these challenges, ontologies seem to be relevant to complement enterprise models since they are intended to support communication, computational inference, consistency checking, querying, and the organization of knowledge. In our contribution, we demonstrate that Enterprise modelling can benefit from these characteristics. In order to check feasibility and pertinence of ontology-based Enterprise Models, we selected the goal modelling part and its relations to actors and resources from the "For Enterprise Modelling" (4EM) method. In more detail, this paper provides (1) a formal OWL representation of the 4EM Goals meta-model;(2) a discussion of goal relations regarding transitivity and domain specific inference;(3) a formalization of the discussed inference rules;and (4) an analysis of an exemplary goals model instance. This paper extends earlier work on the topic by the introduction of inter-model relations, a discussion of formalization alternatives, and a comparison of query results with and without ontology-based reasoning.

Organizations are increasingly focused on using data to make their operational business processes more intelligent and reactive. Reactive performance monitoring consists of automating strategic decisions into rule-based actions when appropriate. Often there is a response gap, where there is unnecessary latency or missing detail, as the mapping between the strategic, the operational and the analytical is complex, labor intensive and not clearly defined. This paper presents an OLAP-modeled rule environment that leverages Complex Event processing (CEP), multi-dimensionally modeled On-line Analytical processing (OLAP) databases and business Process Management (BPM) to provide reactive performance monitoring. We use two case studies to evaluate our proposed architecture for an OLAP-modeled rule environment. The first case study prototyped the environment using IBM PMQ, while the second prototyped the environment using QuickForms and a custom-built OLAP rule engine. Predictive modeling, traditional rule engines, and our OLAP rule engine are compared in terms of their support for reactive performance monitoring.

Keeping up a high level of primary care services for a whole country or even a federal state is a very challenging task due to the demographic change and many other reasons, also for Germany. In the future it is expected that even more general practitioners (GP) are necessary to cover close to come healthcare. Therefore, an efficient use of resources and an optimized planning is crucial. Mathematical models and approaches can help facing the challenge by determining optimal locations for practices, shift schedules or appointment strategies, for example. To use these in practice, decision support systems (DSS) are necessary that link the input data to the approaches and display the results. The outline of such a decision support system for optimally locating GP practices is presented in this paper.

The paper presents a method that concerns the problem of determining a hazard level for various maritime areas based on selected risk factors. These factors reflect hazards that may happen on the route of a given ship and thus may potentially influence on reliability of supply and level of maritime risk for the ship. The results of the method can be helpful in a process of planning a ship's voyage as well as when the transport service is already being realized in order to assess its reliability. The aim of the article is to propose hazards which may be taken into account while assessing the reliability and risk of maritime transport, and present how they can be included in the process of risk assessment in a form of hazard index. The paper presents results for the proposed method, showing how the hazard index is calculated for different maritime areas and its evaluation based on examples of ship's routes.

The matchmaking is a crucial operation in Web service discovery and selection. The objective of the matchmaking is to discover and select the most appropriate Web service among the different available candidates. Different matchmaking frameworks are now available in the literature but most of them present at least one of the following shortcomings: (i) use of strict syntactic matching;(ii) use of capability-based matching;(iii) lack of customization support;and (iv) lack of accurate ranking of matching Web services. The objective of this paper is thus to present the design, implementation and evaluation of the Parameterized Matching-Ranking Framework (PMRF). The PMRF uses semantic matchmaking, accepts capability and property attributes, supports different levels of customization and generates a ranked list of Web services. Accordingly, it fully overcomes the first, third and fourth shortcomings enumerated earlier and partially addresses the second one. The PMRF is composed of two layers. The role of the first layer is to parse the input data and parameters and then transfer it to the second layer, which represents the matching and ranking engine. The comparison of PMRF to iSeM-logic-based and SPARQLent, using the OWLS-TC4 datasets, shows that the algorithms supported by PMRF outperform those proposed in iSeM-logic-based and SPARQLent.

This study explores how firm performance can be explained from the strategic alignment of information technology (IT) and organizational capabilities, i.e., IT flexibility, dynamic capabilities, and absorptive capacity. We build upon dynamic capabilities theory and conceptualize our research model through the lens of strategic alignment methods. Then, we empirically test our main hypothesis using PLS-SEM analysis on a sample of 322 international firms. Outcomes show that measurements and indicators of all first-order and higher-order constructs are reliable and valid. Results also indicate that there is a positive relationship between strategic alignment and competitive firm performance. This study highlights the importance of alignment between IT and organizational capabilities. Strategic alignment can, therefore, be seen an important facilitator of competitive firm performance in constantly changing environments. We conclude with a discussion and conclusion, outline limitations of the current study and present some directions for future research.

This paper presents a perspective related to information service integration for pollution awareness evaluation. The proposed methodology is based on indirect information analysis as retrieved from available literature over time. A time series - type analysis highlighting usage of pollution- related terms is employed. The displayed impact of pollution is evaluated based on public awareness, exposed through digitalized available publications. Estimation techniques and tools are also employed in order to evaluate the exact impact of pollution related events on society. The proposed methodology fosters the design of improved environmental monitoring smart services, specifically addressing the development of data processing components in information sub- systems of EISs (Enterprise information Systems).

Even though today's recommender algorithms are highly sophisticated, they can hardly take into account the users' situational needs. An obvious way to address this is to initially inquire the users' momentary preferences, but the users' inability to accurately state them upfront may lead to the loss of several good alternatives. Hence, this paper suggests to generate the recommendations without such additional input data from the users and let them interactively explore the recommended items on their own. To support this explorative analysis, a novel visualization tool based on treemaps is developed. The analysis of the prototype demonstrates that the interactive treemap visualization facilitates the users' comprehension of the big picture of available alternatives and the reasoning behind the recommendations. This helps the users get clear about their situational needs, inspect the most relevant recommendations in detail, and finally arrive at informed decisions.
