While the effects of mindfulness are increasingly explored across different fields, little is known about the application of these practices in agile project teams. In this paper we report on a rigorous controlled trial executed to understand the impact of the three minute breathing exercise on the perceived effectiveness of stand-up meetings. We compare (1) an active group using a three minute breathing exercise, to (2) a placebo, and (3) a control group in 3 organizations and 8 teams with over 152 measurements. Our findings indicate an immediate positive impact on perceived effectiveness, decision-making and improved listening in the active groups compared to the placebo and natural history groups. We provide a preliminary agenda for future research based on our findings and previous evidence from other fields.

business and IT-alignment (BITA) is a continuous process aiming at aligning strategic and operational objectives and ways to implement them between the business divisions of an organization and its information technology. The work presented in this paper focuses on a specific aspect of BITA: the process of creating an alignment between stakeholders in an organization and the IT. In a project aiming at the implementation of lifelong learning services, experiences were collected supporting a two stage BITA process. The organizational objective of the project was to offer tailor-made learning possibilities at university level to new, non-traditional target groups. New study formats allow to start studying at any stage of life and offer appropriate IT support for new target groups and study formats. The central technological idea consists in a context-oriented, information technology portal for e-learning, the MyKOSMOS portal, with an individualized and demand-based supply of information for the learners.

Based on an increasing number of web resources and services, the mashup paradigm enables end users to create custom web applications consisting of several components in order to fulfill specific needs. End user development of such composite web applications poses tough challenges to composition platforms, especially with non-programmers as end users. For instance, communicating on a non-technical level is crucial. Furthermore, assistance is essential throughout the entire process, ranging from composition to usage of mashups. Amongst others, users should be supported by explaining inter-widget communication, by helping to understand a mashup's functionality and by identifying mashups providing desired functionality. However, prevalent mashup solutions provide no or limited concepts regarding these aspects. In this paper, we introduce our proposal for formalizing and calculating the functionality of mashup compositions based on capabilities and communication relations of mashup components as well as semantic domain knowledge. It serves as a foundation for our assisted, capability-centered end user development approach within the CRUISE platform. The latter features several assistance mechanisms, like presenting the functionality of mashups and recommending composition steps. We describe a prototypical implementation of the proposed algorithm and discuss its usage in our platform. Additionally, we evaluate our modeling and algorithmic concepts by means of example applications and an expert evaluation.

Increased digitalization in business and society has prompted drastic changes in companies, and at present, nearly all enterprises face enormous external and internal challenges to staying competitive. One such challenge concerns data quality in various enterprise systems, within both enterprises and entire value networks. Since data will continue to be the foundation of the digital economy, a certain level of data quality is necessary to ensure efficient business processes. Therefore, adequate master data quality management is essential at both the corporate and inter-organizational levels. In response, in light of a systematic literature review and interview study with several business experts experienced in and responsible for master data management in their companies, we not only underscore the need for research on inter-organizational master data quality, but also ultimately derive initial functional requirements for tools that can support inter-organizational information sharing in a value network.

It is essential for startups to quickly experiment business ideas by building tangible prototypes and collecting user feedback on them. As prototyping is an inevitable part of learning for early stage software startups, how fast startups can learn depends on how fast they can prototype. Despite of the importance, there is a lack of research about prototyping in software startups. In this study, we aimed at understanding what are factors influencing different types of prototyping activities. We conducted a multiple case study on twenty European software startups. The results are two folds;firstly we propose a prototype-centric learning model in early stage software startups. Secondly, we identify factors occur as barriers but also facilitators for prototyping in early stage software startups. The factors are grouped into (1) artifacts, (2) team competence, (3) collaboration, (4) customer and (5) process dimensions. To speed up a startup's progress at the early stage, it is important to incorporate the learning objective into a well-defined collaborative approach of prototyping.

Many electronic services are not used in isolation, but in the context of a specific user. This user, customer or patient perspective is different from the perspective of service providers since customer processes usually involve multiple service providers. information on the context helps to understand these user needs and to improve the coordination among services. This research in progress paper examines existing contributions as a basis towards an understanding of the concept and modeling of "context" from a context provider's perspective and proposes a preliminary model, which also serves to analyze four use cases. The paper summarizes challenges observed in these cases and presents an agenda for further research.

Industry 4.0 has received much attention in recent years, in parallel due to an increasing number of mergers and acquisitions (M&As), post merger integrations (PMI) is of continuous interest. Depending on the integration approach, process harmonization is vital during the PMI. The objective of this article is to observe the significance of Quality 4.0 during process harmonization and detect the extent of realization of this vision in service companies. A systematic literature review and empirical research with expert interviews have been executed. The research showed that Industry 4.0 is still a topic of enormous interest although there seems to be a gap between scientific publications and knowledge in practice. Especially towards Quality 4.0 and service companies future research is needed. In none of the service organizations are any intrinsic endeavors for implementing Industry 4.0 elements (e.g. ERP systems). A massive elucidation and information about Industry 4.0 in practice is demanded. Downstream markets could profit immense from the accompanied potential.

Context: In Canada, the justice system suffers from performance and efficiency issues as indicated by long wait time before trial. Actors in the justice system are seeking solutions involving emerging information technology. Problem: There is need to guide the selection of appropriate combinations of technologies supporting or improving justice systems, yet there is no adapted approach focusing on this concern. Objective: This paper aims to develop the basis of a modeling approach supporting the selection of technologies relevant to justice systems. Method: Goal-oriented requirements modeling is used to describe and evaluate the contribution of technology in the context of justice systems, with the help of an illustrative example targeting the improvement of access to justice. Results: The example shows that it is feasible to model the technology alternatives and their contributions to the goals of different stakeholders in justice systems so that selected technologies are well-aligned with the needs of such systems. Goal models also support trade-off analysis in this context. Conclusion: A justice-aware modeling approach has the potential of helping justice stakeholders to better reason about technology selection and document the rationale of their choices. There are however many remaining challenges in the generalization of the approach to other cases and in its validation in practice.

Social networks, smart portable devices, Internet of Things (IoT) on base of technologies like analytics for big data and cloud services are emerging to support flexible connected products and agile services as the new wave of digital transformation. Biological metaphors of living and adaptable ecosystems with service-oriented enterprise architectures provide the foundation for self-optimizing and resilient run-time environments for intelligent business services and related distributed information systems. We are extending Enterprise Architecture (EA) with mechanisms for flexible adaptation and evolution of information systems having distributed IoT and other micro-granular digital architecture to support next digitization products, services, and processes. Our aim is to support flexibility and agile transformation for both IT and business capabilities through adaptive digital enterprise architectures. The present research paper investigates additionally decision mechanisms in the context of multi-perspective explorations of enterprise services and Internet of Things architectures by extending original enterprise architecture reference models with state of art elements for architectural engineering and digitization.

Many scholars attempted to describe one or more of the following three: Positive emotion (PE), social capital (SC) and knowledge sharing (KS). However, only a few researches have tried to discover a relationship that links the three domains. Numerous studies have asserted that PE in SC environments, particularly in virtual reality group' formation would stimulate a KS behavior. Whereas, another domain is tackled in this study;the holistic view of these three variables. Scholars have long believed that the existence of a KS culture facilitated by SC and PE. Thus, career progression. This empirical research;conducted on a number of selected public sector organizations in the Kingdom of Bahrain has proved the existence of a positive relationship between the Three tested domains. There was no clear evidence that this relationship existed in the virtual level community. As a result linear regression analysis was applied to assess the relationship between the three domains of this study. The findings led to a modified conceptual model viable for practical implications.
