Data confidentiality is essential for safety-critical blockchain applications such as digital payment. A promising approach for preserving confidentiality is to encrypt transaction data using homomorphic encryption (HE) and prove the correctness of transaction execution through non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs (NIZKPs). However, prior work on this approach suffers from poor performance caused by the costly HE computation, hindering their adoption for real-world applications. In addition, prior work is restricted by the use of HE schemes that only support either addition or multiplication, making it challenging to implement business logic involving both types of arithmetic operations. We present Gafe, a high-performance confidentiality-preserving blockchain that carries a GPU-accelerated transaction execution workflow. Gafe encrypts transaction data with FHE, allowing both addition and multiplication on ciphertexts. For high performance, Gafe leverages parallel execution on GPUs to accelerate FHE computations. For result correctness, Gafe generates lightweight NIZKPs that incur low overhead. Evaluations show that Gafe is highly performant, achieving a 3.1x increase in throughput (258 transactions per second) and a 37% reduction in latency (1.61 s), surpassing the baseline without GPU acceleration.(Gafe stands for GPU-Accelerated Fully Homomorphic Encryption Blockchain.)

Prior studies have neglected the significance of IS strategy in choosing and implementing the suitable IS according to situation, instead concentrating on the impact of digital transformation methods on performance and crucial elements that influence IS adoption. The use of strategy-as-practice is useless because there are no formal procedures in place, and no strategic planning has been done. This makes it impossible for management to use IS planning to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. In this study, we look at how the performance of IS is impacted by strategic processes and practices. The survey's participants were 294 information technology managers from Greek SMEs. The results of the study suggest that top-level management should receive training on how to strategically apply IS planning to strengthen competitive advantage. In order to align the organization's strategy and structure, it is also the manager's duty to select the proper IT infrastructure. The findings aid managers in setting priorities for logistical tasks and in comprehending the importance of IS planning in this area.

Agile software development (ASD) teams show their relevance through the continuous delivery of valuable software. As part of ASD, product owners have an important role in four activities: determining most valuable backlog items, refining them, and in validating and measuring business value. In this research we investigate how product owners operationalize business value delivery in these activities. We conducted 38 semi-structured in-depth interviews with product owners in the Netherlands. Overall we found that 55% operationalize value using only two of the four activities, and that 11% apply all four activities. We furthermore found that only 26.5% of these product owners use a structured prioritization method, 47% prioritize based on individual preferences and gut feeling, and 26.5% do not use any prioritization approach at all. We found five different approaches to refinement. The majority (84%) of the product owners state that they validate business value delivery, while just 24% actually measure business value. Overall we conclude that there are opportunities to bring product ownership to a higher level on operationalizing business value delivery, and that there is a clear need in practice for better structure and guidance in operationalizing business value delivery to do so.

The study of daily routines has gained substantial attention, especially in healthcare. Understanding the activities and behaviors of individuals, particularly older adults, has the potential to play a crucial role in providing effective care and support, for example, when it comes to spotting deviations from it automatically. Process mining is a valuable tool for analyzing routine dynamics and identifying variations. However, human behavior is unstructured and characterized by variability, making it difficult to derive a process model representing only the control flow. In this paper, we employ a multi-dimensional process discovery and conformance checking methodology to a real-world dataset representing a person's behavior in a smart environment. The derived model combines control flow and statistics on the data. The results, on the real-world data, highlight that the approach can identify variations in the inhabitant's behavior.

Wood is one of the most used raw materials for the manufacture of various products. When it comes to industrial processes, it is necessary to optimize its use as much as possible. A key point for this optimization is the control of the of moisture content, because wood logs gradually start to lose water when stored in open air. Such water loss is directly reflected in weight and defects, such as warping and cracks, which impair the production processes causing irreparable losses of raw material. Given this context, this work develops a method based on Machine Learning to predict the variation in the weight of wood logs caused by moisture loss, without the need to purchase equipment or increase the cost of labor, using data that companies in the sector already have at their disposal. Several models were developed, with different algorithms, hyperparameter configurations and data distributions. These models were subjected to different evaluations. As an empirical evaluation, the metric chosen was the weighted balanced F-measure. The results showed that the model developed using the Random Forest classifier, classes balanced by the SMOTE algorithm, and hyperparameters adjusted with best tuning obtained the best classification performance. In the statistical analysis, the Align-Friedman and post hoc Holm tests were used. Considering the model based on Random Forest as a control method, the results showed that the algorithms Random Forest and Gradient Boosting can be considered statistically equivalent in most of the scenarios tested. Thus, a model based on Random Forest is suggested for industrial use, thus enabling better use of wood logs in production processes and helping decision-making in the industrial chain in which wood is inserted.

Topic detection is the process of identifying the underlying themes or topics present in a set of documents. It has become more critical due to the increase of information electronically available and the necessity to process and filter it. In this respect, we introduce a new approach to detecting topics called ClusART. Thus, we created a three-phase approach: a first phase during which lexical preprocessing was conducted. The second phase pays heed to the construction and the generation of vectors representing the documents carried out. In the topic detection phase, the FuzzyART algorithm is used for the training phase, and a classifier based on Paragraph Vector is used for the test phase. The comparative study of our approach on the 20 Newsgroups dataset showed that our method could detect almost relevant topics.

Data analytics projects encompass a multitude of facets, including the types of analytics employed, algorithms utilized, and data sources scrutinized. Despite this wealth of information, there remains a challenge in effectively leveraging previous related work for future projects. Traditional approaches often lack mechanisms for preserving and repurposing the knowledge gained from the analysis of related works. In response, this paper introduces a novel method leveraging RDF triples to encapsulate attributes of analytics projects. These RDF triples are then integrated into a web-based knowledge graph, facilitating the exploration of related work within specific data analytics domains. By harnessing this method, researchers and practitioners can identify valuable resources, including data sources, tools, and algorithms, for future endeavors. To demonstrate its efficacy, we apply this method to the domain of real estate analytics, showcasing its potential to enhance project efficiency and innovation.

In the digital age, it is crucial to understand and tailor experiences for users interacting with systems and applications. This requires the creation of user contextual profiles that combine user profiles with contextual information. However, there is a lack of research on the integration of contextual information with different user profiles. This study aims to address this gap by designing a user contextual profile ontology that considers both user profiles and contextual information on each profile. Specifically, we present a design and development of the user contextual profile ontology with a focus on the vehicle sales domain. Our designed ontology serves as a structural foundation for standardizing the representation of user profiles and contextual information, enhancing the system's ability to capture user preferences and contextual information of the user accurately. Moreover, we illustrate a case study using the User Contextual Profile Ontology in generating personalized recommendations for vehicle sales domain.

The World Health Organization (WHO) highlights the significant threat that unsustainably long working hours pose to our mental and physical well-being. Aligning with this concern, an Agile principle emphasizes that "Agile processes promote sustainable development." However, previous work in 2023 debunked this notion of inherent stability in Agile systems, such as the Scrum and Kanban frameworks. In this study, we aim to analyse the relationship between system stability and the tendency of teams to work outside reasonable office hours. We inspect 295 historic Agile projects completed in intive, a software development company. We assess the percentage of late-night, early-morning, or weekend hours where a Product Backlog Item (PBI) was created or resolved and compare this percentage of Unsustainable Hours metric to the Stability Metric and the number of Inventory Days remaining. The analysis showed that almost no correlation exists between the Unsustainable Hours worked and either the system stability or outstanding inventory. These findings indicate that, while working unconventional and potentially excessive hours is a concern, it does not appear to be linked to the stability of Agile systems. This highlights the need for a deeper understanding of individual and team motivations to foster long-term sustainable work practices.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a key technology driving digital transformation in enterprises worldwide. However, the implementation of AI projects often faces hurdles, primarily due to misconceptions about AI's capabilities and suitable applications. This research represents a step in a broader research process aimed at creating an artifact to help companies, particularly those outside the IT sector, navigate these challenges. We present an evaluation of a morphological box that outlines critical factors for successful AI integration. The evaluation was carried out by conducting and analyzing a survey in which participants rated the individual features and values, as well as their structure. We also conducted the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin and Bartlett tests and created a correlation matrix as statistical measures to identify overlap between the elements of the box. After analyzing the data, we found some further room for improvement but that the box seems to include the generally most important aspects. Overall, the participants' ratings for the individual elements were also satisfactory.
