Enterprise risk management (ERM) has been used as a methodology for evaluating the risks to an organization's achievement of its objectives. In private companies, plenty of initiatives and related works have addressed this topic, but studies in the public sector are lacking. Studying how the top managers of public sector federal universities perceive risk management can provide insight into developmental gaps in ERM and related software. This work used a survey to capture public servants' perceptions of risk management using both quantitative and qualitative questions. The main findings can be used to inform decision making and ERM implementation as well as to promote related objectives, planned responses, efficient resource usage, error reduction, and organizational self-knowledge. The top difficulties perceived were related to lack of training, limited staff, absence of risk culture, undefined department structure, lack of interest shown by public servants, reduced budget, and low engagement of top management with ERM. Management practices such as ERM could improve public sector managers' work performance, enabling them to provide better service to society.

In this paper, we propose an approach for email spam detection based on text semantic analysis at two levels. The first level allows categorization of emails by specific domains (e.g., health, education, finance, etc.). The second level uses semantic features for spam detection in each specific domain. We show that the proposed method provides an efficient representation of internal semantic structure of email content which allows for more precise and interpretable spam filtering results compared to existing methods.

When new drugs come onto the market, physicians have to decide whether they will consider the new drug for their future prescriptions. However, there is no absolute "right" decision: it depends on the physician's opinion, practice and patient base. Here, we propose a visual approach for supporting this decision using iconic, interactive and graphical presentation techniques for facilitating the comparison of a new drug with already existent drugs. By comparing the drug properties, the physician is aided in his decision task. We designed a prototype containing the properties of 4 new drugs and 22 "comparator" drugs. We presented the resulting system to a group of physicians. Preliminary evaluation results showed that this approach allowed physicians to make a decision when they were lacking information about the new drug, and to change their mind if they were overconfident in the new drug.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the landscape of workplace health promotion applications. We analyze the contributions that consider this type of apps and their use. Therefore, the published research is summarized by a literature review presenting an overview. The findings are categorized in various clusters. As a result, it was possible to see major research streams described in literature. Furthermore, the results show a need for future research on app development for workplace health promotion.

The proportion of ageing citizens is high and increasing in most EU countries and there is a growing political pressure to make sure that the costs for the elderly care programs do not grow out of bounds. The focus of the ageing population programs is at the 75+ age group. The younger age group - the "young elderly" that is the focus in our research - does not get much attention. Recently, we have noticed a growing insight that preventive programs could be helpful as healthier young elderly will help produce healthier seniors (the 75 + age group) which over time will have significant effects on the costs for health and social care for the ageing population. Our study is a synergistic combination of two timely research areas: digitalisation and the ageing population. The focus combination of digital wellness services and the young elderly is unique. We build on a research program that is operating since January 2014. Our current research in progress aims at finding out how a digital coach - a personal trainer called Vendla - can be worked out for digital wellness services.

This work presents the current state of a PhD thesis about optimizing decision-making in operating room management with an integrated information systems architecture for a decision support system. A design-science research approach is used to develop an architecture that fills the gap for operational decision support by integrating data sources, decision support models and real-time information. After identifying the current state-of-the-art in operational decision support systems, a requirements analysis was started. The first results lead to an architecture in development status. Future work will complete requirements and architecture model and further in a prototypical implementation for evaluation.

FITradeoff method uses a flexible and interactive approach for supporting decisions in multicriteria problems in the context of MAVT (MultiAttribute Value Theory) with partial information. Since the very beginning of the preference elicitation process, a subset of potential optimal alternatives (POA) is selected based on the current partial information provided. Then, the Decision Maker (DM) has the flexibility of interrupting the elicitation process for analyzing the partial result by other means, such as graphical visualization of performance of POA. This flexibility is available in the whole process. Evaluating the visualization confidence for decision support in FITradeoff method is crucial. Furthermore, information for designing of this visualization is relevant. This paper shows how these issues could be approached based on cognitive neuroscience, with particular focus given on eye tracking resources.

business process automation improves organizations' efficiency. In existing systems for business process automation, process instances run independently from each other. However, synchronizing instances for particular activities in a business process can reduce process execution costs. Only a few works exist to enable the so-called batch processing in business processes, which also lack a complete understanding of requirements. This paper provides a requirements analysis based on a literature review and real-world scenarios, taken from different domains. The resulting requirements framework gives an overview of aspects which need to be considered when developing a concept to integrate batch processing into business processes. Further, it fosters the comparison of existing solutions. The application of the framework shows that current approaches could be extended in terms of flexibility, user involvement, and multi-process support.

In order to effectively manage technical debt (TD), a set of indicators has been used by automated approaches to identify TD items. However, some debt items may not be directly identified using only metrics collected from the source code. CVM-TD is a model to support the identification of technical debt by considering the developer point of view when identifying TD through code comment analysis. In this paper, we investigate the use of CVM-TD with the purpose of characterizing factors that affect the accuracy of the identification of TD, and the most chosen patterns by participants as decisive to indicate TD items. We performed a controlled experiment investigating the accuracy of CVM-TD and the influence of English skills and developer experience factors. We also investigated if the contextualized vocabulary provided by CVM-TD points to candidate comments that are considered indicators of technical debt by participants. The results indicated that CVM-TD provided promising results considering the accuracy values. English reading skills have an impact on the TD detection process. We could not conclude that the experience level affects this process. We identified a list of the 20 most chosen patterns by participants as decisive to indicate TD items. The results motivate us continuing to explore code comments in the context of TD identification process in order to improve CVM-TD.

The discipline of enterprise engineering and the DEMO methodology provide enterprise designers with a formal techniques to design companies where competency, responsibility and authority is clearly defined. In such companies, process-based anomalies can be avoided and people tend to cooperate more effectively and contentedly. These techniques are so far mostly used just for business process modeling consultancy. DEMO-based software systems are needed to adopt and support these techniques in professional companies. This paper proposes a theoretical computation concept called DEMO Machine that provides us with formal foundations for a simulation of DEMO models. We demonstrate these formal foundations on a Volley Club example.
