Enterprise resource planning systems (ERP) are increasingly being adopted by organizations in developing countries. The objective of this study is to understand the processes and explore the key factors affecting ERP implementation in organizations. To derive the factors and to examine the situation of ERP implementation, this study conducts case studies of ERP implementation in private and public organizations in Thailand. The research offers an explanation of the differences in ERP implementation in relation to their organizational and cultural setting. The result from this study can be used as a guide for management in organizations planning to implement ERP to foresee and handle with such issues pertaining to the phenomena effectively.

Strategic alignment (SA) has been researched extensively since it first emerged in the early 1990s as a theme within the information systems (IS) strategy domain. The current research trajectory for SA is limited given the predominantly static focus placed on the concept to date, hence we know relatively little about what practitioners do in their day-to-day activity to achieve SA. We therefore propose a practice-based research methodology to help close this knowledge gap. More specifically, we propose joining together, the three pillars of, a Strategy-as-Practice lens, the constructivist grounded theory coding method and case study research design. This practice-based methodology will aid construction of mid-range theory that will have practical relevance in terms of how SA is practiced by practitioners. We recommend applying the methodology to two new research avenues, as a means to build mid-range theory to help us better understand what practitioners actually do, in their day-to-day activity to achieve SA.

Software startups operate under various uncertainties and the demand on their ability to deal with change is high. Agile methods are considered a suitable and viable development approach for them. However, the competing needs for speed and quality may render certain agile practices less suitable than others in the startup context. The adoption of agile practices can be further complicated in software startups that adopt the Lean Startup approach. To make the best of agile practices, it is necessary to first understand whether and how they are used in software startups. This study targets at a better understanding of the use of agile practices in software startups, with a particular focus on lean startups. Based on a large survey of 1526 software startups, we examined the use of five agile practices, including quality related (regular refactoring and test first), speed related (frequent release and agile planning) and communication practice (daily standup meeting). The findings show that speed related agile practices are used to a greater extent in comparison to quality practices. Daily standup meeting is least used. Software startups who adopt the Lean Startup approach do not sacrifice quality for speed more than other startups do.

The omnipresence of event data and powerful process mining techniques make it possible to quickly learn process models describing what people and organizations really do. Recent breakthroughs in process mining resulted in powerful techniques to discover the real processes, to detect deviations from normative process models, and to analyze bottlenecks and waste. Process mining and other data science techniques can be used to improve processes within any organization. However, there are also great concerns about the use of data for such purposes. Increasingly, customers, patients, and other stakeholders worry about "irresponsible" forms of data science. Automated data decisions may be unfair or non-transparent. Confidential data may be shared unintentionally or abused by third parties. Each step in the "data science pipeline" (from raw data to decisions) may create inaccuracies, e.g., if the data used to learn a model reflects existing social biases, the algorithm is likely to incorporate these biases. These concerns could lead to resistance against the large-scale use of data and make it impossible to reap the benefits of process mining and other data science approaches. This paper discusses Responsible Process Mining (RPM) as a new challenge in the broader field of Responsible Data Science (RDS). Rather than avoiding the use of (event) data altogether, we strongly believe that techniques, infrastructures and approaches can be made responsible by design. Not addressing the challenges related to RPM/RDS may lead to a society where (event) data are misused or analysis results are deeply mistrusted.

Changes may cause unexpected side effects and inconsistencies. Regression testing is the process of re-testing a software system after changes have been made to ensure that the new version of the system has retained the capabilities of the old version and that no new defects have been introduced. Regression testing is an essential activity, but it is also time-consuming and costly. Thus, regression testing should concentrate on those parts of the system that have been modified or which are affected by changes. Regression test selection has been proposed over three decades ago and, since then, it has been frequently in the focus of empirical studies. However, regression test selection is still not widely adopted in practice. Together with the test team of an industrial software company we have developed a tool-based approach that assists software testers in selecting regression test cases based on change information and test coverage data. This paper describes the main usage scenario of the approach, illustrates the implemented solution, and reports on its evaluation in a large industry project. The evaluation showed that the tool support reduces the time required for compiling regression test suites and fosters an accurate selection of regression test cases. The paper concludes with our lessons learned from implementing the tool support in a real-world setting.

We propose the design of a digital service ecosystem for the pharmaceutical compounds supply chain. Our method of inquiry is the canonical action research and a retail pharmacy provides the setting. A comprehensive review of existing literature about compounding of medicines is provided and six digital services identified: Supply management, Product traceability, Quality management, Order management, Digital assistant, and Product experience. The new services are supported by dynamic QR code identification and mHealth technologies. Preliminary results suggest that the digital ecosystems offer an opportunity to implement electronic labels (e-labels) in pharmacies, improve medicine information quality, and restore a broken link between medicine customer and medicine producer. Our findings can assist service design and service innovation in pharmaceutical supply chains. Moreover, they can support retail pharmacies in dealing with the increase of medicine compounding, address regulatory pressure for e-labeling, and to take advantage of their proximity to local communities.

Agile software development has become mainstream, and with it many tools have been developed to support Agile software development. Nonetheless, studies show, that most Agile software teams still also use physical cardboards for their daily work. This is error prone and causes a lot of extra effort to keep both in sync. In our research project we conducted an interview study about the reasons for this media break. Based on the findings we developed visualization and interaction concepts for an Agile cardwall using an extra-large multi-touch wall display which provides Agile teams the lightweight collaboration workspace for their Agile meetings. We implemented the concepts in the software prototype a Wall, and evaluated the usability of a Wall in a user study. The evaluation indicates that a Wall enables and encourages team work due to the large size of the wall, the easy accessibility and visibility of the needed information, and the integration with existing issue tracking tools. This suggests that augmenting digital cardwalls with large interactive touch technology and integration with task tracking systems is a useful way to support effective collaborative Agile software development processes.

Currently, many libraries, either academic or public, possess information systems to support their operations. Although libraries are becoming more aware of the potential of data analytics in supporting library management decisions, there is still a long way to go to take plenty advantage of the information collected. This paper proposes a prescriptive analytics solution to enhance the service provided by libraries, by optimizing libraries layout. The quantitative method introduced aims to identify layout configurations that minimize the time spent by clients in picking books from the library. A new multi-floor layout optimization algorithm is developed, based on the pairwise exchange method heuristic. A real data sample of approximately 66.000 loans, taken from the information system of a European Engineering School's library, was analyzed and processed. The method proposed was used to improve the library's current departments configuration, achieving an improvement of 13.2% in terms of walking distance to collect the books. The results corroborate the effectiveness of the method proposed and its potential in supporting library management decisions.

COBIT5 process assessments are conducted to support process improvement and thus enable business-IT alignment. For providing an assessment, assessors engage in planning, data collection, and data validation activities. Typically, these activities are assisted by spreadsheet-like artifacts, that are used for recording the COBIT5 Process Assessment Model (PAM) entities, as well as the corresponding assessment evidence. However, spreadsheet-like artifacts are not an optimal solution for assisting assessment activities, since they do not form part of an integrated and up-to-date enterprise architecture (EA) repository. Contradicting the COBIT5 recommendation of using EA namely for improving alignment, increase agility, and generate potential cost savings - COBIT5 assessors often do not practice what they preach, i.e. that they do not use EA in their own business activities. Some EA tool vendors provide solutions for addressing this gap, but they are proprietary and lack scientific validation, thus presenting interoperability and adoption barriers. In this paper, we propose a set of COBIT5 viewpoints, based on standard ArchiMate extensions to enable interoperability and ease adoption. We designed and tested the solution using a Design Science Research Methodology process model. We demonstrated the EA proposal in two public sector organizations, and evaluated its efficacy, consistency, and structural quality.

Translated texts, in any language, have unique characteristics that set them apart from texts originally written in the same language. Translation studies is a research field that focuses on investigating these characteristics. Until recently, research in computational linguistics, and specifically in machine translation, has been entirely divorced from translation studies. The main goal of this tutorial is to introduce some of the findings of translation studies to researchers interested mainly in machine translation, and to demonstrate that awareness of these findings can result in better, more accurate machine translation systems (This chapter synthesizes material that has been previously published by the author and colleagues, in particular in Volansky et al. (2015);Rabinovich and Wintner (2015);Lembersky et al. (2011, 2012a, 2012b, 2013);and Twitto et al. (2015)).
