Online consumption communities evolve over time and go through different stages in their life cycle [1]. The key factor of the sustainability of the community is members' ongoing contribution. This study examines the factors affecting the ongoing contribution of online reviewers for different types of users. Drawing from theory on communities of consumption [2] and popularity effect [3];we propose a conceptual model of drivers of ongoing contribution. We observed that Social ties, sidedness, and consumption activity could explain the heterogeneity of ongoing contribution level for different users. We studied a community of book reviews. We showed that the effect of sidedness on contribution prediction is stronger for reviewers with extreme behavior. We also concluded that consumption activity has more predictive information about the contribution compare to the social tie and sidedness.

The Performance Measurement System (PMS) explored in the study was implemented by public police forces, using advanced business Intelligence (BI) technologies. The study examines the impact of enhancing that PMS, through analysis of metric results over an 8-year period that covered a transition between two major system versions. The analysis results indeed show a significant impact of transitioning to the new PMS in most (75 %) performance metrics. A noticeable impact of the transition is the temporary performance decline, followed by some improvement that can be attributed in part to the redefinition of some metrics. Further, the results confirmed the preliminary assumptions that the improvement in the measured performance is positively and significantly associated with human-resource allocation;however, with some mediation effects of the crime category and the organization unit.

In this paper we propose a knowledge based system (KBS), based on smart objects and a data fusion model to support industrial management decision making applied to a clothes manufacturing enterprise. The management processes cover factory-production levels to higher decision-making levels. Therefore, the proposed KBS contributes to solving different kind of decision problems, including factory supervision, production planning and control, productivity management, real-time monitoring, and data acquisition and processing. The web access via different middleware devices and tools at different process levels, along with the use of integrated algorithms, decision methods, and smart objects, promote an optimized use of knowledge and resources. In this paper the proposed KBS is introduced and an example of its use is illustrated with an example of a clothes manufacturing resources selection, using the embedded dynamic multi-criteria fusion model.

In the past 60 years, the maternal mortality rate in the United Kingdom has dropped considerably. However, the number of high-risk pregnancies including those complicated by pre-existing maternal health problems e.g. diabetes or lifestyle illnesses e.g. obesity has resulted in an increased demand on obstetric outpatient management of pregnancy at British National Health Service hospitals. In addition, patients also expect better access and convenient appointments in the antenatal clinic. Despite on-going work in these areas, long delays in clinic waiting rooms continue to be a great source of frustration for patients and staff. These delays have a considerable social cost to the economy and a financial cost to the health economy. Therefore, this paper considers a realistic study for supporting decision-makers in antenatal clinics in British northwest hospitals by using a system dynamics approach through causal-loop diagrams. The focus is to enhance the performance of the clinic, by understanding the flow of patients though a hospital clinic thereby aiming to reduce waiting times for patients.

The Internet of Things paradigm has most of the times been associated with distributed devices directly connected to the Web, uniquely identifiable and with different sensing-processing-driving capabilities. The paper addresses this context, with focus on industry driven solutions for cloud communications, describing how these technologies impact the mobile telecommunications world as well as consumers, with a clear perspective on different service models for network operators. We present an implementation strategy and showcase two different scenarios to validate our service presentation solutions, with details on data representation for a semantic interfacing of heterogeneous connected devices.

The availability of large repositories of semantically annotated data on the web is opening new opportunities for enhancing Decision-Support Systems. In addition, the advent of initiatives such as Open Data and Open Government, together with the Linked Open Data paradigm, are promoting publication and sharing of multidimensional data (MD) on the web. In this paper we address the problem of representing MD data using Semantic Web (SW) standards. We discuss how MD data can be represented and queried directly over the SW, without the need to download data sets into local data warehouses. We first comment on the RDF Data Cube Vocabulary (QB), the current W3C recommendation, and show that it is not enough to appropriately represent and query MD data on the web. In order to be able to support useful Online Analytical Process (OLAP) analysis, extension to QB, denoted QB4OLAP, has been proposed. We provide an in-depth comparison between these two proposals, and show that extending QB with QB4OLAP can be done without re-writing the observations, (the largest part of a QB data set). We provide extensive examples of the QB4OLAP representation, using a portion of the Eurostat data set and the well-known Northwind database. Finally, we present a high-level query language, called QL, that allows OLAP users not familiar with SW concepts or languages, to write and execute OLAP operators without any knowledge of RDF or SPARQL, the standard data model and query language, respectively, for the SW. QL queries are automatically translated into SPARQL (using the QB4OLAP metadata) and executed over an endpoint.

With increasing importance of business models in modern businesses and continuous business models innovations, it is becoming important to know whether the current processes support proposed business model or can be modified to support the proposed business model. This aspect of business model innovation is known as business model implementation and it has received little attention in business model related research. In this paper, we explore the relationship between various business model elements with service processes, so that one can systematically assess process readiness for a business model in the future. Focus of this paper is on implementation of new or modified business model in an existing organization already delivering offerings.

From a service science approach, this paper describes the use of sentiment analysis technology to analyze visitor's reviews in order to design experiences in the tourism business sector. Despite what the mere accidental observation could show, tourism is one of the significant experiences for human beings and that makes it optimal to test new concepts in service science, such as experience design and sentiment analysis. This is the first time in the literature that both concepts are used in the analysis of a large number of tourist reviews across a whole country. The value of this work lies in providing experience design recommendations on the basis of a systematic study. Thus, the potential of analyzing services through a scientific focus is shown

The Physics of Notations [9] (PoN) is a design theory presenting nine principles that can be used to evaluate and improve the cognitive effectiveness of a visual notation. The PoN has been used to analyze existing standard visual notations (such as BPMN, UML, etc.), and is commonly used for evaluating newly introduced visual notations and their extensions. However, due to the rather vague and abstract formulation of the PoN's principles, they have received different interpretations in their operationalization. To address this problem, there have been attempts to formalize the principles, however only a very limited number of principles was covered. This research-in-progress paper aims to better understand the difficulties inherent in operationalizing the PoN, and better separate aspects of PoN, which can potentially be formulated in mathematical terms from those grounded in user-specific considerations.
