Novice innovators and entrepreneurs face the risk of designing naive business models. In fact, lack of realism and failing to envision contextual constraints is one of the main threats to start-up success. Both the literature and the responses we gathered from experts in incubation confirm this problem. Capability Driven Development (CDD) is an integrated approach consisting of a method, tools, and best practices. It has proved to be successful when applied to mature enterprises that intend to become context-aware and adaptive. In this paper we report on the application of CDD to two start-up projects and how, despite being useful in making the entrepreneurs aware of dynamic business environments and constraints, a trade-off analysis showed that a simpler version of the method was necessary. Therefore, we present LightCDD, a context-aware enterprise modelling method that is tailored for business model generation. It reduces the set of modelling constructs and guidelines to facilitate its adoption by entrepreneurs, yet keeping it expressive enough for their purposes and, at the same time, compatible with CDD methodology. We also discuss what implications this simplification has with regard to the CDD tool environment.

Motivated by the growing interest of online gambling regulation, we empirically investigate whether the regulation successfully decreases online gambling addiction. For this purpose, we use a vector autoregression (VAR) model to identify interrelationship changes among online gambling games and service platforms due to the regulation. In particular, we propose three theoretical perspectives: the role of prior experience, switching costs and network externalities. We find that the impact size of the regulation is different depending on levels of prior experience, and the regulation significantly affects the switching behavior of users on online gambling platform. Therefore, we offer one of the first empirical evidences that examine the regulation effects on online gambling using VAR model. We also suggest the policy makers should make suitable regulations for each user group to effectively avoid generating gambling addicts without interrupting the economic growth of the online gambling industry.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a priority topic for research and innovation in ICT as well as a major trend for its development in the next period. Due to the large variety of IoT based solutions and their economic and social impact, the healthcare is among most relevant application domains to illustrate this trend. The paper presents the main adopted design and development decisions to build a platform for prototyping IoT based assistive applications with health monitoring capabilities. The prototyping approach is expected to improve the quality and speed up the deployment of these interdisciplinary solutions. A special emphasis was put on the platform architecture which is based on an IoT reference model and a reference architecture to take advantage of, and be compliant with relevant solutions in this field. The functional and information views of the platform architecture are detailed and the main development solutions are outlined.

Effective project communication involves interaction with diverse stakeholders having varied organizational and personal backgrounds. For offshore IT projects, cultural, language, time and geographic gap poses challenge in communication. Extending use of new technology in marketing communication, this paper proposes a conceptual framework to use new technology to increase effectiveness of project communication for remotely executed projects. It posits that social media powered by ubiquitous access using mobile and cloud computing, enriched by data analytics helps assuage communication challenges experienced by IT projects executed from offshore.

Modern business intelligence (BI) is currently shifting the focus from the corporate internal data to external fresh data, which can provide relevant contextual information for decision-making processes. Nowadays, most external data sources are available in the Web presented under different media such as blogs, news feeds, social networks, linked open data, data services, and so on. Selecting and transforming these data into actionable insights that can be integrated with corporate data warehouses are challenging issues that have concerned the BI community during the last decade. Big size, high dynamicity, high heterogeneity, text richness and low quality are some of the properties of these data that make their integration much harder than internal (mostly relational) data sources. In this lecture, we review the major opportunities, challenges, and enabling technologies to accomplish the integration of external and internal data. We also introduce some interesting use case to show how context-aware data can be integrated into corporate decision-making.

Human resources are of central importance for executing and supervising business processes. An optimal resource allocation can dramatically improve undesirable consequences of resource shortages. However, existing approaches for resource allocation have some limitations, e.g., they do not consider concurrent process instances or loops in business processes, which may greatly alter resource requirements. This paper introduces a novel approach for automatically allocating resources to process activities in a time optimal way that is designed to tackle the aforementioned shortcomings. We achieve this by representing the resource allocation problem in Answer Set Programming (ASP), which allows us to model the problem in an extensible, modular, and thus maintainable way, and which is supported by various efficient solvers.

Software vulnerabilities constitute a major problem for today's world, which relies more than ever to technological achievements. The characterization of vulnerabilities' severity is an issue of major importance in order to address them and extensively study their impact on information systems. That is why scoring systems have been developed for the ranking of vulnerabilities' severity. However, the severity scores are based on technical information and are calculated by combining experts' assessments. The motivation for the study conducted in this paper was the question of whether the severity of vulnerabilities is directly related to their description. Hence, the associations of severity scores and individual characteristics with vulnerability descriptions' terms were studied using Text Mining, Principal Components and correlation analysis techniques, applied to all vulnerabilities registered in the National Vulnerability Database. The results are promising for the determination of severity by the use of the description since significant correlations were found.

In the rehabilitation management domain, we find many situations where actors have to manage complex cases. To facilitate patients' quick recovery from their individual conditions, case managers need a high degree of flexibility in organizing their tasks. Unfortunately, giving them complete flexibility is challenging for two reasons: Firstly, process owners may want to tame the flexibility to conform with compliance policies. Secondly, without complete information about the possible processes in the problem domain, software engineers are struggling to design information systems that can support these case management processes effectively. In this paper, we will therefore show how semantic web technologies can complement adaptive case management techniques in order to cope with the cases' flexibility. Following the ideas of linked data and the open-world assumption, these techniques facilitate (1) a data structure that is easily extendable, (2) data quality improvements, and (3) the definition and checking of business rules using domain concepts. As a proof of concept, we integrated the method into a case management tool and conducted a small case study using real-life examples from the rehabilitation domain.

Recent developments such as real-time, social, predictive and cloud business intelligence and analytics (BI&A) introduce extra ways for organisations to obtain insight and business value from an expanded range of data. Organisations have struggled with the strategy, implementation, and measurement of their BI&A efforts, and a series of business intelligence maturity models (BIMMs) has been introduced to identify strengths and weaknesses of their BI&A situation, and assist remedial action. These BIMMs are however seen to be incomplete and outdated and do not accommodate recent BI&A developments. This study suggests how BIMMs should be modified to cater for these developments. Existing BIMMs were examined, and interviews conducted with BI&A professionals knowledgeable about BIMMs and recent BI&A changes. Findings suggested that existing BIMM dimensions should be modified in various ways to cater for the recent changes in BI&A. In addition, project management was identified as a new BIMM dimension.

Distinct friends can have different importance to an individual;and even the relevance of a given friendship can vary over time. To predict friendship strength can be useful to social, technical or commercial purposes. One interesting application of friendship strength is to help people to identify friends with whom they want to reestablish contact in order to keep a close relation. In this paper, we propose a strategy to define a tie strength metric to friendships in online social networks. We calculated the friendship metric in Facebook considering the public of young adults, and found 75 % of acceptance during experiments.
