Process Mining is concerned with the analysis, understanding and improvement of business processes. One of the most important branches of process mining is conformance checking, i.e. assessing to what extent a business process model conforms to observed business process execution data. Alignments are the de facto standard instrument to compute conformance statistics. Alignments map elements of an event log onto activities present in a business process model. However, computing them is a combinatorial problem and hence, extremely costly. In this paper we show how to compute an alignment for a given process model, using an existing alignment and an existing process model as a basis. We show that we are able to effectively repair the existing alignment by updating those parts that no longer fit the given process model. Thus, computation time decreases significantly. Moreover, we show that the potential loss of optimality is limited and stays within acceptable bounds.

Architectural knowledge is an important artifact for many software development and quality control activities. Examples for quality control activities based on architectural information are architecture reviews, dependency analyses, and conformance analyses. Architecture is also an important artifact for understanding, reuse, evolution, and maintenance. Unfortunately, in many projects architectural knowledge often remains implicit and is not available for a particular system stakeholder or outdated when it is actually needed. To address this problem, we propose to manage semi-formal software architecture knowledge in a central repository, where it is accessible to all stakeholders and where it can be automatically and continuously updated and analyzed by different tools. In this paper we discuss important elements and use cases of such an approach, and present an example for an architecture knowledge and information repository in the context of an enterprise service-oriented architecture (SOA).

Only humans may decide whether a column or a set of columns of a table should store minimally unique values. Not adding to a table any existing constraint (business rule), which includes keys, allows for storing implausible instances in it. Unfortunately, 2(n) possibilities should be considered in the worst case for a table with n columns in order to discover all of its keys. This paper presents and discusses contrastively three as efficient as possible, sound, and complete algorithms that assist database designers in discovering all existing keys in the corresponding subuniverse of discourse.

This paper presents a method that is used to enrich existing architecture frameworks or methods by enabling development of situated capability viewpoints. The method addresses the issue that in many cases viewpoint definitions suggest a singular way to consider and model a domain. This issue is particularly prevalent in frameworks developed by one profession, such as IT architects, where general concepts, such as capability and service, may have narrow definitions. The method we suggest is to start with a base capability viewpoint and then tailor that into specific situated capability viewpoints by incorporating situational concerns. Each tailored viewpoint supports a stake-holder's work situation and aims to increase intended and actual use of capability analysis. The method is built upon the ISO 42010 standard, an extendable base capability viewpoint, and concepts from method engineering. The method is demonstrated by applying it to the Strategy Map framework by Kaplan and Norton.

The paper presents a data-centric, model driven approach for the automatic generation of user interfaces (UIs) for dialog-based applications using ontological descriptions. It focuses on Interview Applications, a common pattern e.g. for self-service applications in EIS. Existing approaches for the automatic UI generation usually rely on proprietary, UI-specific description models, designed and developed manually for the application in focus. The manual creation of the artefacts leads to a gap in the automated development, i.e. for dialog-based application UIs, where the structure and behavior is driven by the processed data. Furthermore, the UI specific nature of the artefacts impedes their (re-) use in different contexts. The presented approach is a shift away from a UI-specific towards a data-centric method of modelling dialog-based applications, bridging this gap. Application-Ontologies are used as description means, which leads to reusable, sharable model artifacts, applicable to different contexts of use.

New ways of professional working associated with new organisational forms such as the shared service centre (SSC) are challenging the ways in which careers exist and are perceived by finance professionals. Schein's original concept of career anchors has proved to be a helpful and robust framework for understanding career motivations over time, culture and context. Nonetheless, the theory is still largely based on career motivations and personal expectations prevailing in the 1970s and updated in 1990. Empirical testing of new anchors is rare and proposals for refreshing anchors tend to be conceptual. Using mixed methods this paper investigates the underlying constructs of career anchors for finance professionals in the contemporary SSC environment. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) is used to explore a number of issues arising from interviews in a global multi-national organisation. The results suggest that a six-factor model, which blends traditional and new ideas about career motivations, can better represent career anchors in new organisational contexts than original theory.

The execution of cross-organization business processes often implies the exchange of physical goods without necessarily changing the ownership of such goods. Typical examples are logistic processes where goods are managed by shipping companies that are not the owner of the goods. To ensure that these goods are properly handled, while the service is executed, a monitoring system needs to be put in place. The goal of this paper is to propose a novel approach for monitoring physical goods while executing cross-organization business processes. The approach envisions the usage of Smart Objects attached to the physical goods, or to their containers. To this aim, an extension of the Guard-Stage-Milestone framework is proposed to allow the Smart Objects to monitor the process execution and take into account the limitations of their power and computational resources.

Process models need to reflect the real behavior of an organization's processes to be beneficial for several use cases, such as process analysis, process documentation and process improvement. One quality criterion for a process model is that they should precise and not express more behavior than what is observed in logging data. Existing precision measures for process models purely focus on the control-flow dimension of a process model, thereby ignoring other perspectives, such as the data objects manipulated by the process, the resources executing process activities, and time-related aspects (e.g., activity deadlines). Focusing on the control-flow only, the results may be misleading. This paper extends existing precision measures to incorporate the other perspectives and, through an evaluation with a real-life process and corresponding logging data, demonstrates how the new measure matches our intuitive understanding of precision.

Especially due to the recent expansion of social media platforms, researchers and practitioners exert ever growing efforts to advance big data analytics techniques to derive actionable insights from social networks. Although a substantial body of research has shown that readability is of vital importance for the success of text-based communication, currently it is rarely considered in social media research or especially microblogging. In this research project, we intend to develop a readability measure for microblogging messages that is applicable to large scale data analysis and also provides concrete formulation recommendations for single messages. We will combine text mining and machine learning techniques to analyze a sample of approximately 6.8 million Twitter messages from and about 33 large S&P 100 companies to develop a respective readability measure.
