Process models abstract a dynamic phenomenon in the form of a static representation. This contrast makes them difficult to comprehend. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how service innovations (in a living lab context) contribute to co-create value in a service network. Exploratory research is developed using a qualitative approach and case study on mobility services in Bologna. Our findings reveal that the involved entities are able to recombine their existing resources and design a new value proposition based on the ICT solution. Theoretical and empirical research suggests that collaboration and participation in decision making are critical to service system reconfiguration. The study shows the importance of including insights from Service Science Management and Engineering and Design (SSMED) in the management of network theory. Moreover, the research paves the way for new perspectives on analysis of local governance issues based on value co-creation processes in the ICT service solution context. Using this perspective, service innovations in the overall management of public services view a city as a Smart Local Service System (SLSS), whose competitiveness depends on its ability to access and share common resources to create mutual value.

The availability of large repositories of semantically annotated data on the web is opening new opportunities for enhancing Decision-Support Systems. In addition, the advent of initiatives such as Open Data and Open Government, together with the Linked Open Data paradigm, are promoting publication and sharing of multidimensional data (MD) on the web. In this paper we address the problem of representing MD data using Semantic Web (SW) standards. We discuss how MD data can be represented and queried directly over the SW, without the need to download data sets into local data warehouses. We first comment on the RDF Data Cube Vocabulary (QB), the current W3C recommendation, and show that it is not enough to appropriately represent and query MD data on the web. In order to be able to support useful Online Analytical Process (OLAP) analysis, extension to QB, denoted QB4OLAP, has been proposed. We provide an in-depth comparison between these two proposals, and show that extending QB with QB4OLAP can be done without re-writing the observations, (the largest part of a QB data set). We provide extensive examples of the QB4OLAP representation, using a portion of the Eurostat data set and the well-known Northwind database. Finally, we present a high-level query language, called QL, that allows OLAP users not familiar with SW concepts or languages, to write and execute OLAP operators without any knowledge of RDF or SPARQL, the standard data model and query language, respectively, for the SW. QL queries are automatically translated into SPARQL (using the QB4OLAP metadata) and executed over an endpoint.

Local clothing retailers compete with online retailers but have difficulties to increase cross-selling revenues. Therefore, a data-driven sales process is conceptualized that uses data from social software in order to increase revenue. It identifies and tracks the customer using RFIDs in customer loyalty cards. By these means, social data can be used in all phases of the purchase and both for major and minor purchases. Individual product suggestions and offerings can be tailored. Local retailers are able to catch up with online retailers in their cross-and upselling revenues. In consequence, local retailers are able to stay competitive.

Documenting business processes using process models is common practice in many organizations. However, not all process information is best captured in process models. Hence, many organizations complement these models with textual descriptions that specify additional details. The problem with this supplementary use of textual descriptions is that existing techniques for automatically searching process repositories are limited to process models. They are not capable of taking the information from textual descriptions into account and, therefore, provide incomplete search results. In this paper, we address this problem and propose a technique that is capable of searching textual as well as model-based process descriptions. It automatically extracts process information from both descriptions types and stores it in a unified data format. An evaluation with a large Austrian bank demonstrates that the additional consideration of textual descriptions allows us to identify more relevant processes from a repository.

Risk assessment is dependent on its application domain. Risk values consist of probability and impact factors, but there is no fixed, unique guideline for the determination of these two factors. For a precise risk-value calculation, an adequate collection of factors is crucial. In this paper, we show the evolution from the first phase until the application of a risk assessment approach in the area of an international insurance company. In such a risk-aware field we have to systematically determine relevant factors and their severity. The final results are melted into a calculation tool that is embedded in the companies development process and used for decision support system. This paper shows the results and observations for the whole implementation process achieved via action research.

The goal of the paper is to present the opportunity of exploiting data analysis methods and semantic models to discover customer profiles from financial databases. The solution to the problem is illustrated by the example of credit cards promotion strategy on the basis of historical data coming from the bank's databases. The database contains information, personal data, and transactions. The idea is founded on data exploration methods and sematic models. With this purpose in mind, multiple algorithms of clustering and classification were applied, the results of which were exploited to elaborate the ontology and to define the customer profile to be used in decision-making.

This paper proposes a model that extends the Protection Motivation Theory to validate the relationships among peer behavior, cue to action, and employees' action experience of cyber security, threat perception, response perception, and employee's cyber security behavior. The findings of the study suggest that the influence from peer behavior and employees action experience of cyber security is an important factor for improving cyber security behavior in organizations. Peer behavior positively affects cue to action, which positively impacts employees' action experience. Employees' action experience then would have positive impacts on their threat perception and response perception. As a result, employees' threat perception and response perception are positively related to their cyber security behavior. This process is a chain reaction.

In an increasingly networked world, the availability of high quality translations is critical for success, especially in the context of international competition. International companies need to provide well translated, high quality technical documentation not only to be successful in the market but also to meet legal regulations. We seek to evaluate translation quality, specifically concerning technical documentation, and formulate a method to evaluate the translation quality of technical documents both when we do have access to the original documents and when we do not. We rely on state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms and translation evaluation metrics in the context of a knowledge discovery process. Our evaluation is performed on a sentence level where each sentence is classified as either professionally translated or machine translated. The results for each sentence is then combined to evaluate the full document. The research is based on a database that contains 22,327 sentences and 32 translation evaluation attributes, which are used to optimize Decision Trees that are used to evaluate translation quality. Our method achieves an accuracy of 70.48% on sentence level for texts in the database and can accurately classify documents with at least 100 sentences.

The importance of Modelling Method Engineering is equally rising with the importance of domain specific modelling methods and individual modelling approaches. In order to capture the most relevant semantic primitives that address domain specifics needs, it is necessary to involve both, method engineers as well as domain experts. Due to complexity of conceptualization of a modelling method and development of regarding modelling tool, there is a need of a guideline and corresponding tools supporting actors with different background along this complex process. Based on practical experience in business, more than twenty EU projects and other research initiatives, this paper introduces a toolbox to support the conceptualization of a modelling method. The realized toolbox is introduced and evaluated by two EU-funded research projects in the domain of e-learning and cloud computing as well as additionally by an in-house development project in the area of decision modelling extensions. The paper discusses the evaluation results and derived outlooks.
