This work deals with Interaction Protocol (IP) adaptation at build time for coordination in the context of Crisis Management Processes (CMP). CMP refer to the coordination of several partners in a dynamic and unstable context. One possible way to deal with this coordination is the use of IP. In order to guarantee an efficient use of IP, we need to adapt them. In previous work, we proposed an MDA (Model Driven Architecture) framework for IP adaptation based on version and context notions. In this paper, we focus on the PIM (Platform-Independent Model) level of the proposed MDA framework. More precisely, we propose an extension of AUML (Agent UML) sequence diagram meta-model in order to specify graphically the contextualized versioned IP. We also give two examples of contextualized versioned IP specified with extended AUML. Finally, we illustrate the IP adaptation based coordination through a well-known case study "Air Crash Management Process".

In many cases, there is a serious gap between the needs of real-world organizations and the skills that business school graduates actually develop during their studies. In order to close this gap, innovative pedagogic solutions can be implemented in business schools, such as hands-on, work-group information systems courses;but such changes may imply serious budget and organizational problems, also because of the inertial nature of university institutions. Service science is emerging as a very promising approach to tackle the challenges implied in such practice-oriented, demand-driven innovation of educational services. In this paper, we apply a service science approach to propose a bottom-up re-design of the educational service system in a representative case: the School of Management and Economics of the university of Turin, Italy. We identify the network of stakeholders and propose a model in which students, graduates and firms interested in hiring specialized personnel play an active role in co-creating the value delivered by the university educational services. Finally, we outline the main performance measurement and organizational issues implied by this project.

In enterprise modeling, organizational structures as well as an enterprise's processes and important artifacts (e.g., business knowledge stored in documents) are captured formally using different kinds of models. These models are not only used for documentation purposes, but they are also used to provide guidance for employees. For example, the models may impose rules on artifact access (i.e., who is allowed to view or manipulate certain artifacts) or they may define workflows for individual processes (e.g., which employees should perform which adaptation steps, and in which order). However, existing enterprise modeling approaches typically support only coarse-grained artifacts. For instance, only individual files can be associated with workflow tasks. Unfortunately, enterprise artifacts are typically of high complexity (e.g., spreadsheets contain millions of data cells). Therefore, it is not sufficient to provide employees only with information about the artifacts involved in a task, but it is necessary to provide more detailed information (e.g., which cells in a spreadsheet are relevant). In this paper, we introduce a novel approach to enterprise modeling that addresses the issue of too coarse-grained support for enterprise artifacts. Our approach relies on a generic knowledge-sharing platform, called DesignSpace, in which all aspects of an enterprise are integrated and stored at a fine level of granularity. The DesignSpace supports fine-grained representation of enterprise artifacts and their linking to tasks in defined workflows. Moreover, it enables automatic, efficient, and generic workflow support. First case studies suggest that the approach is feasible and provides significant improvements in terms of efficiency compared to state-of-the-practice enterprise modeling solutions.

This paper contains an empirical analysis of acquisition dynamics in the electronic design automation (EDA) industry. Using qualitative and quantitative data, we show that particular groups of EDA firms strongly contribute to acquisition activity in the industry at specific times. Based on this we provide empirical evidence that specialized firms pursue focused and 'defensive' acquisitions during times of uncertainty, indicating that concentration on existing competencies is preferred over diversification into promising new, but unfamiliar markets.

A successful software project is the result of a complex process involving, above all, people. Developers are the key factors for the success of a software development process and the Agile philosophy is developer-centred. Developers are not merely executors of tasks, but actually the protagonists and core of the whole development process. This paper aims to investigate social aspects among developers working together and the appeal of a software project developed with the support of Agile tools such as Agile boards. We studied 14 open source software projects developed using the Agile board of the JIRA repository. We analysed all the comments committed by the developers involved in the projects and we studied whether the politeness of the comments affected the number of developers involved over the years and the time required to fix any given issue. Our results show that the level of politeness in the communication process among developers does have an effect on the time required to fix issues and, in the majority of the analysed projects, it has a positive correlation with attractiveness of the project to both active and potential developers. The more polite developers were, the less time it took to fix an issue, and, in the majority of the analysed cases, the more the developers wanted to be part of project, the more they were willing to continue working on the project over time.

Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and Agile Software Development(ASD) research have gained momentum over the past decade. However, to the best of our knowledge, there exists no work about these two phenomena combined. This thesis will show how Agile Software Development(ASD), specifically the Kanban Method, and FOSS can be consolidated and how they can benefit from each other's advantages. The agile community and the FOSS community can benefit from this body of work, as we aim at broadening the understanding of both.

Safety-critical systems such as process control-and signal systems play a fundamental role in many important industries and aspects of society. Such systems, including software, must fulfill extreme demands for correct operation and integrity, meaning that development must follow strict standards (in our case IEC 61508), which has to be documented and evaluated by external certification bodies to receive necessary approval. We present recent industrial experience in applying the SafeScrum approach in a complex software organization.

One of the outcomes of the EU-funded iTEC project is the design and the development of a complete eLearning ecosystem, from the design of pedagogical scenarios to their concrete implementation in a Learning Management System, through instantiation of required technical artefacts. The proposed architecture is loosely-coupled and relies on W3C widgets, mashup platforms and other autonomous components, which raise several security issues. This paper reports about the solution that has been implemented to manage user authentication and authorization in such a highly distributed environment, through the combination of various open standards. The proposed approach is based on a survey ran among european teachers about their practices in terms of user credentials usage and sharing.

Modern software development companies focus on their primary business objectives, delivering customer value and customer satisfaction which often leads to prioritization of core business areas over such areas as measurement. Although the companies recognize the need and importance of software measurement, they often do not have the competence and/or time to focus on software measurement. In this paper we address the challenge of optimizing the measurement processes in modern companies by using cloud computing and by providing measurement (process) as a service for core business of the companies. Similar to the concept of Software-as-a-Service we define the concept Measurement-as-a-Service and describe how to organize a measurement program according to this definition. The Measurement-as-a-Service concept is well-aligned with measurement programs developed according to ISO/IEC 15939 and can help the companies to increase the benefits obtained from the efficient use of metrics.

business process analysts must face the task of analyzing, monitoring and promoting improvements to different business processes. Process mining has emerged as a useful tool for analyzing event logs that are registered by information systems. It allows the discovering of process models considering different perspectives (control-flow, organizational, time). However, currently they lack the ability to explore jointly and interactively the different perspectives, which hinder the understanding of what is happening in the organization. This article proposes a novel approach for interactive discovery aimed at providing process analysts with a tool that allow them to explore multiple perspectives at different levels of detail, which is inspired on OLAP interactive concepts. This approach was implemented as a ProM plug-in and tested in an experiment with real users. Its main advantages are the productivity and operability when performing process discovery.
