Interoperability, as one of the key competition factors for modern enterprises, describes the ability to establish partnership activities in an environment of unstable market. In some terms, interoperability determines the future of enterprises;so, improving enterprises' interoperability turns to be a research focus. "Sharing data among heterogeneous partners" is one of the most basic common interoperability problems, which requires a general methodology to serve. Model transformation, which plays a key role in model-driven engineering, provides a possible solution to data sharing problem. A general model transformation methodology, which could shield traditional model transformation practices' weaknesses: low reusability, contains repetitive tasks, involves huge manual effort, etc., is an ideal solution to data sharing problem. This paper presents a general model transformation methodology "combining semantic check measurement and syntactic check measurement into refined model transformation processes" and the mechanism of using it to serve interoperability's data sharing issue.

The Enterprise Architecture (EA) provides a holistic view of an enterprise and seeks to align the business and IT. As the change in the business goals and strategies of an enterprise is inevitable, managing the evolution of the EA is a key challenge for modern enterprises. Furthermore, the EA metrics are instrumental in quantitatively measuring the progress of an enterprise towards its goals. The retrospective analysis of the EA metrics empower practitioners to take informed decisions while planning and selecting efficient alternatives to achieve the envisioned goal. The tool support for the EA metric analysis is still in its infancy. In this paper, we propose a model-based approach to capture the temporal aspects of the EA metrics and extend a model-based expression language to compute the EA metrics at any point of time in the past. This allows the visualization of the evolution of the EA metrics and as a consequence the evolution of the EA.

To continuously deliver value both in short-term and long-term, a key goal for large product lines companies is to combine Agile Software Development with the continuous development and management of software architecture. We have conducted interviews involving several roles at 3 sites from 2 large companies employing Agile. We have identified current architect roles and gaps in the practices employed at the organizations. From such investigation, we have developed an organizational framework, CAFFEA, for Agile architecting, including roles, teams and practices.

In business organizations a group decision process, which takes aggregation of DMs' final choices into account, usually uses a voting procedure (VP). Therefore, a relevant part of the decision process consists of choosing the VP. Since all VPs have some drawbacks that may occasionally lead to undesirable outcomes it is important to characterize decision settings that make certain performance criteria particularly pertinent for choosing a VP. In this paper, it is assumed that this decision should be made by the DMs while the analyst will give some methodological and technical aid, and that a specific decision model will be used. Therefore, this paper presents a framework for aiding the choice of a VP in a business organization decision context, based on an MCDM model.

We propose a demand response privacy preserving interaction and intermediary protocol design (DPIP) using a trusted third party design to facilitate the collection of Smart Metering data and to perform Demand Response while preserving the privacy of residential customers in the Smart Grid. DPIP relies on intermediaries hiding customer program participation from Demand Response Aggregators (DRA) and thus enhance their anonymity and it provides individualized privacy preserved billing. This is the first of a series of papers. Its focus is the protocol, while following work discusses the role of differential privacy. Keywords: Smart Grid Management, Privacy, Privacy Enhancing Technologies.

In information and Communication Technology (ICT) a 'deliverable' may be either software (perceived as an 'output') or a service (perceived as an 'outcome'). On the one hand, the differences between software and service have led to the design of parallel models and lifecycles with more commonalities than differences, thereby not supporting the adoption of different frameworks. For instance, a software project could be managed applying best practices for services (e.g. ITIL), while some processes (e.g. Verification & Validation) are better defined in models of the Software Management domain. Thus, this paper aims at reconciling these differences and provides suggestions for a better joint usage of models/frameworks. To unify existing models we use the LEGO approach, which aims at keeping the element of interest from any potential model/framework for being inserted in the process architecture of the target business Process Model (BPM) of an organization, strengthening the organizational way of working. An example of a LEGO application is presented to show the benefit from the joint view of the 'software + service' sides as a whole across the project lifecycle, increasing the opportunity to have many more sources for this type of improvement task.

This work presents a unified modelling approach based on two declarative models which integrates event-and entity-driven paradigms while preserving a clear separation of concerns between their executions. The proposed approach provides business users with a unified model that is both sufficiently equipped to capture the inherent complexity of realistic business operations, and still enables gaining a complete overview of the entire business arena. This was attained building upon the business-entity-model and the-event-model as two complementary modeling paradigms yielding the BE2 model. In this paper we describe how these two models have been systematically unified using an ontological formalism as a common conceptual baseline. The approach also derives a set of modeling guidelines to preserve the consistency across the two specifications. We demonstrate the actual instantiation of the proposed BE2 model in the Transport and Logistics domain.

Services have become a vital catalyst for economic growth worldwide. From a business perspective, innovation in services is regarded as being a key pillar in order to sustain the growth momentum of the service sector. The capability to create innovative services constitutes a complex problem for service providers. A major problem identified through a review of the literature concerns the lack of a service innovation framework that puts emphasis on the development of customer value or value being proposed by a service to customers. This paper presents a value development framework, called ServiceMIF, which can contribute to creating service innovation opportunities during service development through the creation of new or improved customer value. Ongoing preliminary trial results show that ServiceMIF can effectively help businesses to propose new or improved customer value while enhancing the quality of their service offerings.

Context. Innovation is promoted in companies to help them stay competitive. Four types of innovation are defined: product, process, business, and organizational. Objective. We want to understand the perception of the innovation concept in industry, and particularly how the innovation types relate to each other. Method. We launched a survey at a branch of a multi-national corporation. Results. From a qualitative analysis of the 229 responses, we see that the understanding of the innovation concept is somewhat narrow, and mostly related to product innovation. A majority of respondents indicate that product innovation triggers process, business, and organizational innovation, rather than vice versa. However, there is a complex interdependency between the types. We also identify challenges related to each of the types. Conclusion. Increasing awareness and knowledge of different types of innovation, may improve the innovation. Further, they cannot be handled one by one, but in their interdependent relations.
