Despite recognizing the applicability of Cialdini's principles in social engineering context, studies on their effectiveness needed more tailored and validated tests, primary data collection, and multicultural samples. Cialdini's six persuasion principles include reciprocity, commitment, liking, scarcity, social proof, and authority. We designed and face validated 12 scenarios representing the presence and absence of each principle in a situation where an acquaintance prompts online group members to install an app for testing and improving it. Through an online survey with 314 UK and 328 Arab participants, we collected data on the impact of persuasion principles on risk taking, i.e., to accept installing and trying the app, and trust in the requester, who might be knowingly a social engineer. Results across both cultural frameworks indicate significant impacts, with Social Proof and Authority being the most influential, and Scarcity the least, yet still significant. Interestingly, the principles not only influenced the decision to take the risk but also affected trust in the potential social engineer. This holds true even in less intuitive scenarios, representing Scarcity and Commitment/Consistency principles. This applies to two distinctive cultural frameworks, Arab and British, increasing robustness. The research also investigates the relationship between security attitudes, measured through SA-6 scale, and susceptibility to these principles, in terms of trust and risk taking, revealing surprising results of positive correlations. These findings emphasize the need for cybersecurity strategies that include awareness of psychological manipulation alongside technical knowledge, catering to different cultural contexts.

This paper describes research that explores principles of designing visual representations of data in sup-port of strategic decisions from the perspective of distributed decision makers. It uses the concept of distributed cognition (DC) to understand requirements of different stakeholders for data and information needed for making decision, and the concept of boundary objects to understand the shared utility of the visual representations in cross-functional decision-making. The study examines a product development setting in which decision-making is based on data resulting from digital modeling. Visualizations are widely used to explore data and make sense. However, research lacks studies connecting data visualization to decision-making. This research aims to propose visualization principles that are based on investigating information and visualization requirements of distributed decision makers. This empirical study uses the human-centered distributed information design (HCDID) methodology to analyze stake-holder requirements in a case study company and contributes to the research of decision-making with big data and analytics, particularly to corporate multi-perspective decision-making.

The multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) landscape is fraught with complexity and challenges, particularly in diverse decision-making environments. Practitioners often face the challenging tasks of selecting appropriate MCDA methodologies, navigating complicated computational processes, and effectively synthesizing inputs from a variety of stakeholders. The existing landscape of MCDA tools, which are typically limited to specific methodologies, exacerbates these challenges, often resulting in fragmented workflows and steep learning curves. To overcome these hurdles, the MCDA Calculator (https://mcda-calculator. ***) emerges as a novel decision support system (DSS), providing a unified and streamlined platform tailored to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of computational process for experienced practitioners in applying MCDA. The MCDA Calculator features a streamlined computational workflow that blends different MCDA methodologies into a cohesive unit. This approach ensures a consistent and intuitive user experience, effectively eliminating the need for complex, time-consuming configurations. The tool's design philosophy focuses on simplifying the MCDA calculation process. In this paper, we introduce our DSS and detail the workflow of the developed web-based tool. To illustrate the practical benefits and real-world applicability of the MCDA Calculator, the paper presents a numerical example which illustrates the tool's ability to streamline calculation processes, and produce insightful, actionable results.

During the steering manoeuvre, due to the variations such as vehicle parameters, speed and tire grip, vehicles may undergo understeer or oversteer, which may lead to vehicle deviation from expected path and lose of control, greatly threatening passengers' safety. Therefore, this paper proposes a coordinated control method for the lateral stability of four wheel independent steering vehicles with the surrounding condition considered, which could be adaptable to the surrounding environment and has excellent control performance. Firstly, a four independent wheel vehicle model combining longitudinal and lateral force is established. Secondly, a LQR controller with its parameters adjustable according to the surrounding condition is designed. Finally, the effectiveness of the control algorithm is verified via simulation.

Forensic-ready software systems integrate preparedness for digital forensic investigation into their design. It includes ensuring the production of potential evidence with sufficient coverage and quality to improve the odds of successful investigation or admissibility. However, the design of such software systems is challenging without in-depth forensic readiness expertise. Thus, this paper presents a tool suite to help the designer. It includes a graphical editor for creating system models in BPMN4FRSS notation, an extended BPMN with forensic readiness constructs, and an analyser utilising Z3 solver for satisfiability checking of formulas derived from the models. It verifies the models' validity, provides targeted hints to enhance forensic readiness capabilities, and allows for what-if analysis of potential evidence quality.

Process discovery aims to automatically derive process models from historical execution data (event logs). While various process discovery algorithms have been proposed in the last 25 years, there is no consensus on a dominating discovery algorithm. Selecting the most suitable discovery algorithm remains a challenge due to competing quality measures and diverse user requirements. Manually selecting the most suitable process discovery algorithm from a range of options for a given event log is a time-consuming and error-prone task. This paper introduces ProReco, a Process discovery Recommender system designed to recommend the most appropriate algorithm based on user preferences and event log characteristics. ProReco incorporates state-of-the-art discovery algorithms, extends the feature pools from previous work, and utilizes eXplainable AI (XAI) techniques to provide explanations for its recommendations.

Adaptability is vital in today's rapidly changing business environment, especially within IT. Agile methodologies have emerged to meet this demand and have thereby gained widespread adoption. While successful in smaller, co-located teams and low-criticality projects, applying agile methods in broader contexts poses challenges. Nevertheless, many organizations have started implementing agile methodologies in various areas, including large-scale Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) projects. In contrast to traditional development, ERP projects involve deploying extensive integrated systems, are substantial in scale, and entail high risks and costs. Accurate predictions, like effort estimations, are crucial to meet customer satisfaction and deliver within plan and budget. However, estimating effort in an agile environment poses its own set of challenges. For instance, coordination efforts and dependencies among teams must be considered. While effort estimation is well-explored in classical software development and small-scale agile contexts, limited research exists in large-scale agile settings, particularly in projects rolling out and customizing standard ERP solutions. To address this gap, we conducted a case study on effort estimation in a large agile ERP transformation program, describing the estimation process, highlighting challenges, and proposing and evaluating mitigations.

The work aims to introduce an enhanced TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method incorporating individual aspiration and reservation levels as reference alternatives for evaluating the decision matrix. The proposed algorithm can effectively be used in multi-issue negotiation support, allowing for the evaluation of negotiation offers outside the negotiation space. It includes scenarios where resolution levels of certain issues fall above the aspiration or below the reservation level. Two approaches for comparing such offers and reservation or aspiration levels identified in deterministic negotiation space are introduced-non-compensatory and compensatory. The latter approach replaces the distance used in the original TOPSIS mechanism with two notions of positive and negative deviations that measure how much an alternative outperforms or is outperformed by aspiration and reservation levels. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the application of an enhanced TOPSIS mechanism in the pre-negotiation preparation of the negotiation offer scoring system. Its major advantage, the stability of the scoring system for new offers submitted during the actual negotiation phase, is additionally assessed through a simulation study of deficiencies of classic TOPSIS.

Containerisation and microservices have introduced unprecedented complexity in system configurations, exacerbating the blast zone of misconfigurations and system failures. This complexity is further amplified within the DevOps paradigm, where developers are entrusted with the entire software development lifecycle, often without comprehensive insights into the impact of their configurations. This article explores using the declarative logic programming language Datalog in automating and optimizing configuration validation to mitigate these challenges. We present an overview of a real-world case involving a software company with approximately 300 engineers, highlighting the challenges that lead to delegating mission-critical configuration validation to a declarative language. With Datalog, we spearheaded an initiative to entirely deprecate a non-declarative solution in order to attempt to circumvent the problem of writing business logic alongside its evaluation. The outcome revealed a substantial reduction in maintenance efforts and user complaints, providing further evidence of Datalog's potential in streamlining internal policy enforcement. We propose a set of best practices, extrapolated from our findings, to guide organizations in both implementing and optimizing automatic configuration validation. These insights offer a strategic roadmap for harnessing declarative languages like Datalog to effectively navigate the intricate configuration landscapes of contemporary software systems.

IDE's (Integrated Development Environments) are powerful tools to support the development process and help to write better and cleaner code. However, most IDEs aim with their support on the development of monolithic software. For the development of distributed systems like a microservices-based system, there is a lack of IDE support for e.g. inter-service communication via REST. This means through the string-based communication used during REST, the IDE is not able to support with autocompletion, syntax highlighting or type checking. To solve this issue, we introduce an IDE plugin called SIARest (Software Interface Analyser), based on the LSP (Language Server Protocol), which gives additional support during the development of distributed microservice-based systems, in a monorepo environment.
