Efficient logistics management is key for maintaining project timelines, controlling budgets, and enhancing productivity and promoting sustainability within the construction industry. However, challenges such as delays in material delivery, equipment malfunctions, and labor shortages require effective management strategies to prevent significant disruptions. This research explores the application of digital twin (DT) technology to optimize construction planning and execution through real-time monitoring, simulation, and analysis. By leveraging advanced sensing and communication technologies, this study aims to develop and validate DT models specifically tailored for construction logistics. The anticipated outcomes include improved decision-making, enhanced collaboration, and increased efficiency, which are expected to result in reduced costs and shortened timelines. The findings have the potential to strengthen the competitiveness and operational efficiency of the construction industry.

Research on the sixth-generation wireless communication technology (6G) ecosystem has attracted significant attention and captured widespread interest in the past 5 years since 2018. The concept of 6G ecosystem and its related concepts become widely used but have encountered the challenge of ambiguity and misuse due to a lack of rigorous conceptual analysis. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a novel conceptual analysis framework to explore the components, related concepts, sub-concepts, antecedents, and consequences of 6G ecosystem through a systematic and comprehensive literature review. Our findings reveal a scattered landscape of 70 variant 6G ecosystem concepts from 140 selected papers and emphasize the crucial role of ecosystem-level business innovation for a sustainable 6G ecosystem. Furthermore, this study provides foundational knowledge for stakeholders to strategically navigate this complex ecosystem and make corporate foresight decisions in the forthcoming 6G era, meanwhile offering insights for policymakers to foster collaboration and implement 6G standardization.

The software development industry has widely adopted DevOps culture and practices, which emphasize the importance of effective utilization of DevOps tools, promoting collaboration, developing necessary skills among employees, and fostering a supportive company culture. Understanding the critical success factors for DevOps is essential for ensuring the overall performance of an organization. To gain a deeper understanding of DevOps practices and insights from professionals during the adoption of DevOps within teams, a study was conducted aimed at identifying DevOps critical success factors for teams within software-producing organizations. The study employed a thematic approach through collaborative coding and extensive interviews with 16 DevOps professionals in the IT industry. The findings highlighted the importance of fostering a (1) collaborative organizational culture, (2) Integrating DevOps automation, (3) cultivating strong work ethics, (4) addressing challenges related to remote teamwork, and (5) establishing dedicated DevOps security teams. Our findings thus contribute to improving DevOps concepts of success factors, practices, and organizational impacts.

The study explores the perceptions of the micro-credentials software ecosystem (MC-SECO) by higher education institutions (HEIs). Through a discrete choice experiment, we investigate how various dimensions of MC-SECOs influence decision-making processes within HEIs. We aim to understand the factors that facilitate or hinder MC-SECO implementation. Our research highlights the importance of collaboration, risk management, trust, sharing, and transparency in developing a cooperative and efficient ecosystem. Collaboration aiming at enhancing sensing and shaping opportunities and threats, seizing an opportunity, and reconfiguring the resource base (i.e., dynamic capabilities provided by the ecosystem) is crucial for decision-making. In contrast, the willingness to share physical resources is seen as an obstacle in the implementation process. Risk-avoidance strategies dominate HEIs' decision-making. By investigating the preferences and reasons for the resistance of HEIs regarding MC-SECO implementation, this research contributes to the understanding of digital transformation in education, emphasising the need for ecosystems that support dynamic capabilities, openness, and innovation.

In this article, we introduce a framework for product planning of software platforms managed as internal products within Corporate information Technology (IT). This contextualized framework defines inputs, outputs, stakeholders, process interactions, and the teams involved. It was developed based on insights gathered from twelve expert interviews, and an evaluation with professionals and researchers interested in the topic confirmed its increased completeness, usefulness, and intention to use compared to a non-contextualized framework. The framework establishes a shared understanding and facilitates discussions surrounding the management of platforms as internal products in companies whose core business is not directly related to software products. It provides IT organizations with new approaches to technology management that can improve organizational competitiveness.

The accuracy and efficacy of an object-centric business process are of paramount importance during its execution. In the context of the PHILharmonicFlows framework, user interaction forms are automatically generated from the structure of the business process. Consequently, errors (e.g. deadlocks) in the business process result in malfunctioning during execution. It is therefore of the utmost importance to identify and rectify any errors in the business process at the earliest possible stage, namely at the point of specification. However, the concept of object-centric process management is sophisticated and requires a high level of expertise to implement effectively. In particular, modelling the coordination processes that control the business process in order to represent the interactions between multiple business objects represents a significant challenge. In light of this, a verification algorithm has been developed, comprising two mechanisms (prevention and alerting), to assist process modellers in creating coordination processes. This verification algorithm was subjected to testing during the emulation of three existing business processes. This revealed a number of flaws, including the presence of cycles that comprise several coordination processes. These deficiencies had previously evaded the detection of numerous modelling experts.

Predictive Process Monitoring (PPM) is a subfield of Process Mining, which focuses on using Machine Learning (ML) methods to predict the future of an ongoing execution based on its early stages. Predictions provided by PPM approaches include the time remaining until the end of the process execution, the next event activity to be performed, or the overall outcome of the execution trace. While different machine and deep learning methods have been leveraged in the literature of PPM, in recent years, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have emerged as a new type of neural network and have been leveraged by few approaches in PPM. GNN models offer the advantage of working with a more natural representation of a trace prefix, allowing more expressive and semantically rich encodings. In this paper, we review three GNNs-based approaches from the PPM literature and we compare them with state-of-the-art approaches on the task of next activity prediction. The results show that GNNs are able to achieve an accuracy gain of more than 10% with respect to traditional approaches for some datasets, thus making them a promising solution in PPM.

Workarounds are goal-driven adaptations of business processes that employees implement to overcome perceived constraints at work. While process deviations can be easily detected with data-driven methods like process mining, it is hard to distinguish workarounds from related, yet distinct, concepts. The SWORD framework constitutes a state-of-the-art method for the data-driven detection of workarounds in business process event logs based on pre-defined patterns extracted from support processes in the healthcare domain. However, currently, SWORD has solely been applied to highly standardized processes with low variation and knowledge intensity, while it can be assumed that workarounds more often appear in the latter and also bear bigger potential for innovating processes. Furthermore, SWORD neither comprises data preparation steps nor enables the analysis of workarounds and their implications for the organization. In this paper, we develop an exaptation of the existing SWORD framework, coined LongSWORD, together with two industrial case organizations. Our contribution to theory and practice is threefold. First, we present a framework that enables the preparation of a meaningful event log in alignment with according process model or routine. Second, the detection and analysis of workarounds in core industrial processes is enabled by adding two new cross-case patterns. Third, the LongSWORD method enables others to assess the implications of workarounds beyond its individual implementers.

We demonstrate the use of topological data analysis (TDA) to visualize the dynamics of organizational routines in outpatient medical clinics over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. We use Electronic Health Record audit trail data from January 2020 to December 2021 to visualize changes in routines in outpatient clinics in four different medical specialties. By representing the pattern of action each day in each clinic as a weighted, directed graph, we see that some clinics bounced between several distinct patterns of action over the two year period. In contrast, other clinics never bounced back to the pre-COVID pattern of action. In all of the clinics, we see evidence of temporal auto-correlation: the pattern of action on any given day is similar to the pattern of action on days that are close in time. Because it can capture recurrence of action patterns that might be widely separated in time, TDA offers a substantial advance in the state of the art for visualizing the dynamics of organizational routines.

business agility is key for companies across industry domains. As a primary mechanism for achieving agility, agile development practices have been successfully adopted by software organizations. However, while agile practices successfully support software agility, business agility also requires system agility. For companies in the embedded systems domain, this is particularly challenging since business agility is achieved only when all technologies in the system, i.e., mechanics, electronics, software, and artificial intelligence (AI) are subject to agile cycles. Although there is prominent research on business agility, industrial best practice shows that effective adoption of these frameworks is scarce. As a result, agility remains at primarily a software level. In this paper, we focus on companies in the embedded systems domain and ways in which these companies can increase system agility. The contribution of the paper is two-fold. First, we identify the limitations of contemporary agile frameworks. Second, we define a quantitative approach for determining the optimal release frequencies for the different technologies that are part of an embedded system.
