Process mining is often used to identify opportunities for process automation leading to improved efficiency and cost savings. Robotic process automation (RPA) is a fast-growing area that provides tremendous productivity growth to a growing number of companies across many industries. RPA tools allow users to record their work and then propose areas for automation, and produce scripts to automate work. Recording how a process is conducted, coupled with process mining techniques, offers the most detailed view of what process is followed, how well it is followed, and whether there are areas for automation or improvement in process or policies. However, the main challenge to deriving these insights is the need for grouping fine-grained recorded tasks into events, giving them names, and proposing how to automate those high-level tasks. In this paper, we propose a framework for using large language models (LLMs) to assist users in these steps, by leveraging their natural language understanding and generation capabilities. We first address the problem of event log generation, which is an input of automation techniques, by using LLMs to group and label tasks based on their semantic similarity and context. We then tackle the problem of connector recommendation by using LLMs to recommend best plugins to automate tasks. We evaluate our approach on a real publicly available dataset, and show that it can improve the quality and efficiency of event log generation and connector recommendation, compared to the baseline methods.

Resource analysis is an area of process mining concerned with the behavior and performance of resources within business processes. Recent contributions in this field have predominantly focused on gaining specific insights, less so on their visual representation. In this paper, we propose a resource analytics technique that focuses on effective visualization of the analysis. Our technique allows us to analyze the allocation and performance of single resource units and roles within a business process. We evaluate our technique using a prototypical implementation.

This case study discusses the possibility of using process diagrams to formally describe musical dependencies. As a methodological basis, the authors use an example of the tonic C major and its development in the construction of fifth and seventh chords. The authors showhowa process diagram provides a good representation of the known dependencies between the notes of a key. They also present a model of the progression of C major chords through the intervals. The paper discusses the problem of how to complete - i.e., harmonize - a melody so that for each quarter note a harmonic and tonal chord is used for a given period. The authors show that musical relations that are now generally formalized by musical notation can be, and in the case of harmony progression, can be usefully modeled in other forms such as a process diagram.

In market-based economies often appear significant decreases of economic activity, which lead to recessionary economic crises. These economic crises have quite negative consequences for firms, as they lead to significant decrease of their sales revenues;firms respond by decreasing on one hand their production and in general operational activities and expenses, personnel employment and materials' procurement, and on the other hand their investments in production equipment, digital technologies, etc., which leads to technological obsolescence. This reduction of investments, and especially of the ones in digital technologies, due to their importance for firms' efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation, can have quite negative impact on their future competitiveness, and even put at risk their survival. However, these negative consequences of economic crises differ significantly among firms: some of them exhibit a lower vulnerability to the crisis, so they have less negative consequences, while some other firms exhibit a higher vulnerability, and have more negative consequences;so the competitive position of the former is significantly strengthened with respect to the latter, and finally the former are the 'winners' of the crisis, while the latter are the 'losers'. This paper proposes a methodology for predicting the winner and loser firms of future economic crises with respect to a highly important class of technologies: the digital technologies. In particular, the proposed methodology enables the prediction of the multi-dimensional 'pattern of digital vulnerability' of an individual firm to a future economic crisis, which consists of the degrees of reduction of the main types of 'digital investments' as well as 'digital operating expenses' in a future economic crisis. Large Language Models are a great tool for solving diverse tasks formulated in natural language. Recent work has demonstrated their capacity of solving tasks related to Knowledge Graphs, such as Knowledge Graph Completion or Knowledge Graph Reasoning, even in Zero- or Few-Shot paradigms. However, given a particular input, they do not always produce the same output, and sometimes point to intermediate reasoning steps that are not valid, even if they produce a satisfactorily answer. Moreover, the use of LLMs is mostly studied for static knowledge graphs, while temporal ones are overlooked. To highlight opportunities and challenges in knowledge graph related tasks, we experiment with ChatGPT on graph completion and reasoning for both static and temporal facets, using three different prompting techniques in Zero- and One-Shot contexts, on a Task-Oriented Dialogue system use case. Our results show that ChatGPT can solve given tasks, but mostly in a nondeterministic way.

This paper addresses overstock issues in a real-life Purchase-to-Pay process in cooperation with the industry leader in pet retail in Europe. It highlights the development of solutions for more efficient inventory management, thereby reducing overstock. Our approach involves identifying patterns leading to overstock and proposing specific improvement measures within the existing logistics systems. This includes technical modifications in the order suggestion and purchase order processes using Logomate and SAP systems. The research utilizes object-centric process mining techniques as a crucial tool to uncover these patterns, with a focus on the practical solutions derived for overstock reduction. The case study conducted with the PM2 methodology demonstrates potential benefits in optimizing inventory structure and suggests a path for future research in generalizing these findings across various sectors and automating overstock pattern detection.

tau JOWL (Temporal OWL 2 from Temporal JSON) is a framework we proposed to allow users of Big Data projects to automatically create, with the closed world assumption (CWA), a temporal OWL 2 ontology from time-varying JSON-based Big Data. Such an ontology, providing the semantics to the data, facilitates complex tasks like Big Data querying, analytics and reasoning, in an environment that supports temporal versioning at both data instance and schema levels. Update operations on temporal JSON Big Data may not respect the JSON Schema associated to them, like renaming a JSON object or a JSON object member, or replacing the current value of an object member with a new one that is not conformant to its type as specified in the corresponding JSON Schema. These update operations are called "non-conservative updates" and require implicitJSON Schema changes to be performed so that they could be correctly executed. Such JSON Schema changes need then to be propagated to the OWL 2 ontology in order to maintain semantic alignment. To this purpose, in this paper, we propose an approach for automatic management of implicit OWL 2 ontology schema change operations that are generated by non-conservative updates to temporal JSON Big Data instances, in the tau OWL framework.

The growing mobile app market demands effective testing methods. Scriptless testing at the Graphical User Interface (GUI) level allows test automation without traditional scripting. Nevertheless, existent scriptless tools lack efficient prioritization and customization of oracles and require manual effort to add application-specific context, hindering rapid application releases. This paper presents Mint as an alternative tool that addresses these drawbacks. Preliminary results indicate its capability to detect accessibility problems.

Cities are continuously challenged by demographic, socio-economic and environmental changes. Cities need to adapt and evolve to respond to scenarios arising within themselves, such as the needs of their citizens, as well as from external or global influences, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Cities have been compared to complex organisations comprised of individuals, groups and institutions that evolve organically like complex organisms that adapt to changes by learning from their continuous interactions and feedback. The sharing of knowledge and experiences between city elements through these interactions is fundamental to cities for evolving as a learning and innovation ecosystem. The learning process of a city could essentially enhance citizen-centric transformations for developing resilient and sustainable smart cities. information and Communications Technology (ICT) has also been one of the major drivers for developing smart cities. In this study, we report the results from a Systematic Literature Review to explore the role of ICT in supporting city learning as innovation ecosystems for developing citizen-centric smart cities. The results show that ICT support in the context of city learning has been considered in Living Labs, Lifelong Learning and Digital Platforms for knowledge sharing and information analytics where collaboration is a key concept.

The need to anticipate and defend against potential threats is paramount in cybersecurity. This study addresses two fundamental questions: what attacks can be performed against my system, and how can these attacks be thwarted? Addressing the first question, this work introduces an innovative method for generating executable attack programs, showcasing the practicality of potential breach scenarios. This approach not only establishes the theoretical vulnerability of a system but also underscores its susceptibility to exploitation. To respond to the second question, the proposed approach explores a range of mechanisms to counter and thwart the exposed attack strategies. The aim is to use robust and adaptive defensive strategies, leveraging insights from the demonstrated attack programs. These mechanisms encompass proactive measures, such as automatic penetration testing and behavior analysis, and reactive approaches, such as rapid patch deployment and vulnerability prioritization. The resilience of systems against potential breaches can be enhanced by intertwining attack pathways with comprehensive countermeasures, thereby disrupting the adversary's kill chains. This study aims to contribute to the containerized application security deployed in different environments, like the Cloud, Edge, 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), and Industrial IoT (IIoT), by taking these scenarios as a case study. This research contributes to the evolution of cyber threat analysis through a Design Science Research (DSR) approach, focusing on developing and validating artifacts, tools, and frameworks. Defenders can anticipate, combat, and ultimately mitigate emerging threats in an increasingly complex digital environment by creating tangible attack programs and formulating effective thwarting mechanisms.
