Customer value, which is the utility of goods and services assessed from the perspective of a customer, is at the core of every healthy organization. As Enterprise Modeling focuses on the systematic modeling and analysis of structures and activities within an organization, it supports the interaction between customer and supplier as a communication and analysis tool of value co-creation. However, existing methods for creating these models require support from scarce model experts to realize concrete model instantiations. This research examines how the modeling of customer value through enterprise models can be made practically applicable in a business context. In this respect, a metadesign modeling method is proposed, which is developed according to a first cycle of the build-and-evaluate loop of the Design Science Research Methodology. The results show that the meta-design modeling method is suitable to model customer value in a business context. However, further improvements can make this method better practically applicable for both domain experts and end-users. In this respect, interesting opportunities for future research are the use of a questionnaire to fill in the front-end models and the integration of the customer value model with, e.g., improvement projects or service management practices.

We consider an order-picking system for a warehouse divided into corridors with two-layer shelves being arranged in the shape of a U in each corridor. Given an order in a corridor, the focus is on the optimization of the picking sequence and on locating the movable depot in the most convenient location. Two iterative algorithms based on constraint programming are proposed. Computational experiments position the new methods in the existing literature, showing that they are operatively effective. We also show how allowing the depot to be allocated away from the central axis of the corridor can lead to substantial time savings, especially for small orders. This strategic option had not been considered in the previous literature, but can be easily implemented in modern warehouses.

Enterprise architecture (EA) debt represents the contingent liability that emerges from sub-optimal architectural decisions. Such decisions are usually taken to meet immediate needs under tight enterprise constraints, often at the expense of long-term sustainability. To prevent the reckless accumulation of EA debt, decision-makers should exercise prudence in selecting and implementing architectural decisions. However, EA management practices involve a wide range of stakeholders groups, making it challenging to align the different opinions that may arise on the prudence or recklessness of an architectural decision affecting EA debt. In other fields related to EA debt such as technical and financial debt, the concepts of prudence and recklessness have been extensively studied-yet little has been done to support the evaluation of these concepts in a practical context. In our previous work, we introduced a process for evaluating the prudence and recklessness of an architectural decision based on its effects on EA debt. This paper provides extensive details about the process, including the definitions of the concepts involved, theoretical references gathered through a systematic literature review, and illustrative demonstration of the process' execution. Last but not least, we elaborate on the procedure and results of the evaluation of the proposed process, which was performed through interviews with EA researchers and practitioners.

Path selection in multistage manufacturing process has a considerable impact on product quality because uniform product quality cannot be ensured across all equipment. Accordingly, we present a method for choosing the best path while taking product quality into account. In this paper, we firstly introduce a quality index and categorize product grades. Building upon the criteria, we also propose an approach based on path scores to identify machine sequence paths that can improve product quality. To validate its efficacy, we apply the approach to the industry-like data, successfully pinpointing both the most and least favorable paths.

Over one in ten babies are born preterm annually, presenting challenges beyond the neonatology intensive care unit (NICU), including depression and post-traumatic stress for parents. Research has demonstrated that tailored interventions supporting parents transitioning from NICU to home can decrease these adverse outcomes. Parents often seek online answers for children's health before consulting medical professionals. Smartphone applications (apps) supporting parents are being increasingly developed, however, the literature suggests that current apps lack quality and credibility. This study offers a methodical assessment of the quality, level of evidence-based content, and data protection of apps aiming to support parents of premature infants in their transition from NICU to home. The web-based application aggregator Appagg was used to list free and paid Android and iOS apps using keywords such as NICU, preterm, discharge and parenting support in English and in French. The apps were evaluated between March and July 2023. Quality was evaluated using the Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS) to measure engagement, functionality, aesthetics and information. Then, this study suggests an evidence-based content (EBC) assessment based on the most recent recommendations, guidelines, and scientific literature regarding NICU discharge for premature infants. Finally, the apps' data protection was evaluated in regards to compliance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or GDPR-like regulation. The search yielded a total of 896 unique apps. Screening for title and abstract selected 22 apps. 12 remained for final analysis as 9 were not accessible to Switzerland or needed patient ID for access and one did not work (video content was not working at all). The results showed that three apps (3/12, 25%) received a good MARS score on overall quality (>4.0 out of 5.0), five apps (5/12, 42%) presented good levels of EBC assessment (>= 4 out of 5) and four apps (4/1

This paper presents the application of the MDA (Model Driven Architecture) approach to implement Sensitive business Processes (SBPs), in order to identify and localize the crucial knowledge that is mobilized and created by these processes. Therefore, we start with a conceptual specification of SBP as a CIM level, then transform it to a PIM so that SBPs can be specified and represented using extended BPMN 2.0. This extension was designed in a previous research project based on core ontologies in order to integrate all relevant aspects related to the knowledge dimension in SBP models. As well as from PIM to PSM for the implementation of SBPs. For this, we propose mapping rules for model-to-model transformation and use the standard MOF 2.0 QVT as a transformation language.

The intersection of healthcare and technology has brought unprecedented advancements, improving patient care, and enhancing operational efficiency. However, this integration has also exposed the healthcare sector to significant cybersecurity challenges. With the increasing digitization of patient records and the reliance on interconnected systems, healthcare organizations are becoming attractive targets for malicious actors seeking to exploit vulnerabilities for financial gain or to disrupt critical healthcare services. Our main contribution is a cybersecurity maturity level specific to the healthcare sector with a focus on hospital;based on rigorous Research Science Design Methodology. In other words, this research aims to investigate and address the multifaceted cybersecurity issues within the healthcare sector, focusing on hospitals, analyzing their cybersecurity profiles, proposing effective ways to accelerate cyber risks assessment in order to safeguard patient data, maintain system integrity, and ensure the continuity of healthcare services.

Process mining encompasses a range of methods designed to analyze event logs. Among these methods, control-flow discovery algorithms are particularly significant, as they enable the identification of real-world process models, known as in-vivo processes, in contrast to anticipated models. An obstacle faced by control-flow discovery algorithms is their limited ability to recognize duplicated activities, which are activities that occur in multiple locations within a process. This issue is particularly relevant in the healthcare sector, where numerous instances of duplicated activities exist in processes but remain undetected by conventional algorithms. This article introduces a novel concept for a control-flow discovery algorithm capable of effectively revealing duplicated activities. The effectiveness of this technique is demonstrated through experimentation on a synthetic dataset. Moreover, the algorithm has been implemented and its source code is available as open-source software, accessible both as a ProM plugin and a Java Maven dependency.

In recent years, Machine Learning (ML) components have been increasingly integrated into the core systems of organizations. Engineering such systems presents various challenges from both a theoretical and practical perspective. One of the key challenges is the effective interaction between actors with different backgrounds who need to work closely together, such as software engineers and data scientists. This paper presents an exploratory case study that aims to understand the current interaction and collaboration dynamics between these two roles in ML projects. We conducted semi-structured interviews with four practitioners with experience in software engineering and data science of a large ML-enabled system project and analyzed the data using reflexive thematic analysis. Our findings reveal several challenges that can hinder collaboration between software engineers and data scientists, including differences in technical expertise, unclear definitions of each role's duties, and the lack of documents that support the specification of the ML-enabled system. We also indicate potential solutions to address these challenges, such as fostering a collaborative culture, encouraging team communication, and producing concise system documentation. This study contributes to understanding the complex dynamics between software engineers and data scientists in ML projects and provides insights for improving collaboration and communication in this context. We encourage future studies investigating this interaction in other projects.

In the context of ICT-based Smart Grid components, the IEC 62559 Use Case Methodology and the Smart Grid Architecture Model Framework play a vital role in achieving a common understanding of the energy system during the modeling process. However, discrepancies in interpretations by heterogeneous stakeholders can lead to errors and costly consequences in subsequent project phases. With the aim to contribute to the development of AI systems capable of improving the quality of use case descriptions and models to avoid such costly consequences, this research gathers and presents functional requirements for the design of an intelligent system. An architecture will be developed to demonstrate its integration into the modeling process. A comprehensive requirement analysis is conducted, utilizing expertise from energy sector professionals, collected and evaluated using quantitative and qualitative research methods.
