This study discusses how to optimize the cost for condition-based maintenance, specifically in the case of a two-component machine system. This is important because, in manufacturing systems that are highly dependent on machines, the total cost of maintaining stochastically degrading components can be high (i.e., as a result of inspections, general repair including replacement, and also the cost of lost production and process rejects due to machine breakdowns). This study hypothesizes that the minimum total cost of a condition-based maintenance policy for a two-component series system can be found by jointly solving for (a) the optimal inspection interval, (b) the general repair conditions for the two components, and (c) the cost estimation of process rejects and breakdown during every maintenance inspection and maintenance performed;doing all of these will give a realistic cost structure as encountered in real-life manufacturing systems. Given this hypothesis, this study models the two-component system by setting up the operating states and the breakdown states and defining the system variables. Then, this study establishes the decision variables, i.e., for the inspection state and the maintenance states, and thereafter performs the exhaustive Monte Carlo simulation approach to get the optimal variables. Finally, this study uses the optimum decision variables to come up with policies for condition-based maintenance. To prove the validity of this hypothesis, a case study is performed on a two-component process of a cutter-grinder assembly of a local fast-moving consumer goods company in the Philippines. By applying the approach proposed by this study that integrates stochastic degradation, frequency of inspections, process rejects and general repair scenarios, the total cost of annual maintenance is seen to be reduced by 44%.

Blockchain is a disruptive technology and interest in its adoption is growing across many market sectors in Industry 4.0. However, the blockchain adoption is limited by the difficulty in managing private keys and wallets to interact therein. This paper describes the integration of a consortium blockchain within e-learning platforms. The adoption of blockchain in the e-learning platform maximises the reliability, verifiability and sharing of micro-credentials. The proposed solution aims at eliminating the difficulties of managing keys and wallets. The enhancement in the reliability of micro-credentials is particularly important in learning environments and in companies that want a guarantee of effective training of employees. The present article, in line with the European privacy framework, exploits the potential of blockchain without compromising user data protection.

Due to its potential benefits, process mining has become more and more embedded in financial auditing as an analysis technique to support the auditor in their assessment of internal controls executed in financially relevant processes. However, standard process mining solutions for audit are developed under the pretense of a single case notion. As a result, an auditor is presented with models and data visualizations of the process that do not accurately reflect the underlying relationship between accounting and other relevant objects in the process, posing challenges for the auditor in obtaining a precise understanding of the process and related controls. In this case study together with EY, we aim to understand requirements for improving the application of process mining in audit. After first inventorizing the current limitations, we explore on a real-life audit use case provided by EY the benefits of graph-based event data representation using an event knowledge graph, especially considering accounting related objects and events. Discussing these results with auditing experts at EY revealed insights and requirements for a process mining analysis in the context of auditing not documented in the literature before.

This action research study focuses on the integration of "AI assistants" in two Agile software development meetings: the Daily Scrum and a feature refinement, a planning meeting that is part of an in-house Scaled Agile framework. We discuss the critical drivers of success, and establish a link between the use of AI and team collaboration dynamics. We conclude with a list of lessons learnt during the interventions in an industrial context, and provide a assessment checklist for companies and teams to reflect on their readiness level. This paper is thus a road-map to facilitate the integration of AI tools in Agile setups.

This review paper presents academic literature exploring why there is a slow adoption of mobile technologies amongst rural enterprises in South Africa. The researchers conducted a thorough literature review of studies related to trust and privacy on mobile applications published in journals between January 2020 and April 2023. The study reviewed two main external variables: trust and privacy of technology adoption. The systematic review shows that common trust concerns for rural enterprises include untrusted service providers, weak security, and security attacks. Additionally, the review revealed common privacy issues and concerns, including integrity, user awareness, unobservability, and deniability as obstacles to the fast uptake of mobile applications in rural marketplaces in South Africa. Considering these factors, the paper concludes by offering practical and theoretical suggestions that can assist rural entrepreneurs in enhancing the diffusion of mobile technology.

The regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies and blockchain tokens is a critical factor shaping business decisions and opportunities. This study proposes a computational model that leverages Web mining through search engines to quantitatively estimate the regulatory readiness of countries in relation to cryptocurrencies. The model's performance is validated through experimental trials supplemented with un- supervised clustering techniques for deeper analysis of the derived estimations. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the model in assessing regulatory tendencies and offer valuable insights for policy-makers and industry stakeholders. This algorithmic approach presents an algorithmic methodology over manual regulatory assessments and subjective methods, showcasing its potential to guide regulatory frameworks in the rapidly evolving space of cryptocurrencies.

Data journalism is a valuable emergent and growing trend, which can lead to higher quality journalism, based on real-life data and not on prejudice and pre-existing stereotypes. However, the effective realization (i.e., the 'real-life' implementation) of this concept requires the development of high-quality software tools that enable journalists to access useful data sources, are easy to use, and provide clear, understandable and intuitive presentations of the data, as well as practices and processes for using them. In this direction our paper is making a contribution. It describes the design, implementation and evaluation of a software tool that utilizes open data sources concerning food prices in Greece, in order to support data journalism on this topic, which constitutes one of the most critical topics that the societies of many countries face. It is a fully automated solution that can generate new visual reports whenever the data provider updates the food prices data and requires minimal intervention from the journalists;this makes the above data usable for journalistic purposes. The results of the evaluation were positive, indicating a high degree of journalists-users satisfaction, and at the same time revealed difficulties in using these open data for journalism purpose due to quality problems, and also revealing directions for future development of the tool.

Digital services play a pivotal and multifaceted role in today's everyday life. Understanding digital services' impact on their users' well-being has thus become essential, and the concept of digital well-being has recently been introduced. This study aims to deepen our understanding of digital well-being by investigating how users' favorite digital services can enhance their digital wellbeing. The data were collected through 14 interviews. The interviewees were young Finnish adults (aged 22-31 years) who actively use digital services in their everyday lives. The findings demonstrate that favorite digital services can enhance their users' digital well-being at psychological, social, and cognitive levels. Digital services can contribute to psychological well-being by providing retreat, serenity, and enhancement to daily tasks. Digital services also contribute to social well-being by fostering connectedness and sense of unity. Finally, digital services enhance cognitive well-being by promoting knowledge and understanding and by offering inspiration.

This paper introduces RecPro, a novel tool in the field of business Process Management (BPM), fostering the integration of human-centric computing by integrating methods from recommender systems. Unlike existing approaches that enrich BPM by recommendation techniques, RecPro is not restricted to a specific recommendation method. In this study, we aim to establish the connection between the emotional trajectory of students during a pedagogical sequence and their performances. The project aims to develop an affective and intelligent tutoring system for detecting students facing difficulties and helping them. We designed this experimentation during the 2022-2023 academic year with students in a French engineering school. We collected and analyzed two primary data sources: student results from the Learning Management System (LMS) and images captured by students' webcams during their learning activities. It is known that basic (primary) emotions (like fear or disgust) do not reflect student affective states when facing pedagogical issues (like misunderstanding or proudness). Since such "academic emotions" are not easy to define and detect, we changed the paradigm and used a 2D dimensional model that describes better the wide spectrum of emotion encountered. Moreover, it allows to build a temporal emotion trajectory reflecting the student's emotional trajectory. Firstly, we observed a correlation between these trajectories and academic results. Secondly, we found that high-performing student trajectories are significantly different from the others. These preliminary results, support the idea that emotions are pivotal in distinguishing highly performing students from their less successful counterparts. This is the first step to assess students' profiles and proactively identify those at risk of failure in a human learning context.
