Enabling technologies concerning hardware, networking, and sensing have inspired the development of context-aware IT services. These adapt to the situation of the user, such that service provisioning is specific to his/her corresponding needs. We have seen successful applications of context-aware services in healthcare, well-being, and smart homes. It is, however, always a question what level of trust the users can place in the fulfillment of their needs by a certain IT-service. Trust has two major variants: policy-based, where a reputed institution provides guarantees about the service, and reputation-based, where other users of the service provide insight into the level of fulfillment of user needs. Services that are accessible to a small and known set of users typically use policy-based trust only. Services that have a wide community of users can use reputation-based trust, policy-based trust, or a combination. For both types of trust, however, context awareness poses a problem. Policy-based trust works within certain boundaries, outside of which no guarantees can be given about satisfying the user needs, and context awareness can push a service out of these boundaries. For reputation-based trust, the fact that users in a certain context were adequately served, does not mean that the same would happen when the service adapts to another user's needs. In this paper we consider the incorporation of trust into context-aware services, by proposing an ontological conceptualization for user-system trust. Analyzing service usage data for context parameters combined with the ability to fulfill user needs can help in eliciting components for the ontology.

Producers of manufacturing equipment can, instead of just selling their products, also offer their customers services to increase customer satisfaction, gain competitive advantage, and increase their profits. These goals can be reached by helping the customers optimise their processes and improve their reliability and flexibility. This can be done by supporting the customer that invests in new manufacturing machines with a planning and control tool connecting the machines and the processes between them. More specifically, this will become possible by introducing and integrating active data management and analysis, and planning applications in the current architecture of companies. All of the processes currently being done manually in the customer companies, from monitoring to production planning based on direct observation and the experience of production managers, can be automated using these applications. This paper presents a reference architecture supporting the connection of these processes using the mentioned applications, and validates the developed models based on a real case study of a production machine manufacturer and its customers.

In recent years, the design of time-aware business processes has seen advancements mostly in the theory. Various modeling constructs and techniques to verify the temporal qualities of business processes have been formalized. However, operational support for process designers still lags behind, with only a few tools offering limited time-related functionalities available. Here, we contribute towards closing this gap and propose a modeling tool based on the Camunda modeler. Our tool features an interactive interface that aids the design of time-aware process models with guarantees of temporal correctness in terms of dynamic controllability.

business process modelling is the key to structuring and eventually optimizing the organization's processes and provides the context to help produce quality information systems. To develop these systems, it is necessary to specify their requirements, which are obtained from documents, interviews, and from business process models. However, there is a lack of systematic approaches to bridge the gap between business processes and requirements elicitation and specification. This happens often due to failures in the communication between business analysts and developers, e.g., when the information present in one of the process models is not consistent with the requirements extracted in the development of a system that aims to optimize this process. This implies rework of requirements and/or business processes. Considering the agile methodologies for developing these systems, user stories are the usual technique to specify requirements. Providing a systematic approach for extracting these user stories from business processes will ultimately assist stakeholders in the elaboration of system's functional requirements. To provide more detail to the extracted user stories and to handle exceptions in the business processes, the Gherkin scenarios can also be extracted from the models, which works as a complement to the user stories. The goal of this paper is to present transformation patterns for deriving user stories and scenarios from BPMN models to ensure traceability and consistency between business processes and requirements, and facilitating the communication between business analysts and developers.

Industry 4.0 brought digital technology changes at a rate unparalleled to the past. Consequential to such change, the importance of a digitally literate society is emphasized. Digital literacy is, however, vast and subject to the fast-paced changes of Industry 4.0. The challenge then lies in learning and developing digital literacy. Knowledge visualization (KV) is considered a means to address this challenge, through its use of visual mechanisms to transfer complex insights. The purpose of the study was to identify factors of KV that, if addressed, can facilitate successful knowledge creation and transfer in a digital literacy learning and development process. We employed a systematic review of existing literature to reveal several critical success factors (CSFs) of KV towards digital literacy learning and development. The KVCSFs were presented in an online questionnaire to respondents to rank and possibly expose additional CSFs. The study produced 20 kV CSFs toward digital literacy learning and development, that can serve as a guide for KV in future digital literacy learning and development endeavors.

business Process Management (BPM) is a holistic management discipline in which numerous facets and dimensions can be addressed within education and teaching. Especially for novices (in educational institutions and practice), the large body of knowledge can be perceived as overwhelming due to the pluralistic background and its resemblance to other related management disciplines. Also, especially in real-world settings, BPM initiatives must be considered holistically since local process improvements rarely yield satisfactory results. Within this contribution, we report on our experiences using the BPM Billboard in several practitioner workshops or student seminars in which we regularly utilize this tool to discuss or showcase BPM initiatives on a high- and holistic level. We apply the BPM Billboard to an ongoing real-world project in the context of e-government and discuss the implications for the organization. The results indicate that practitioners and students need to master this basic knowledge to successfully communicate and coordinate large-scale projects across the organization.

business processes may face a variety of problems due to the number of tasks that need to be handled within short time periods, resources' workload and working patterns, as well as bottlenecks. These problems may arise locally and be short-lived, but as the process is forced to operate outside its standard capacity, the effect on the underlying process instances can be costly. We use the term high-level behavior to cover all process behavior which can not be captured in terms of the individual process instances. The natural question arises as to how the characteristics of cases relate to the high-level behavior they give rise to. In this work, we first show how to detect and correlate observations of high-level problems, as well as determine the corresponding (non-)participating cases. Then we show how to assess the connection between any case-level characteristic and any given detected sequence of high-level problems. Applying our method on the event data of a real loan application process revealed which specific combinations of delays, batching and busy resources at which particular parts of the process correlate with an application's duration and chance of a positive outcome.

Domain-Specific Modeling Languages (DSMLs) increasingly gain attention in the field of Conceptual Modeling as they target a particular problem in a delineated application domain by using concepts that are tailored to end-users. As such, DSMLs provide a flexible approach that can be used in different application domains. To realize their potential, the graphical notation of a DSML must be aligned with the users' knowledge and perceptions. In particular, an intuitively understandable DSML notation is important to facilitate communication with the end-users. Therefore, we propose a technique for composing an initial DSML notation by reusing icons. This technique is applied in the context of the Process-Goal Alignment (PGA) business modeling technique. Furthermore, we empirically evaluate the proposed technique by an experiment with 85 business users, in which we compare the intuitiveness of the newly developed and existing PGA notations. The results show that the semantic transparency of the newly developed notation is significantly higher than the existing PGA notations. More specifically, the composition technique based on the reuse of icons enables to derive the meaning of DSML concepts correctly.

With rapid progress of the "Belt and Road" initiative, China has become a capital exporter. More and more Chinese investors are increasing their overseas investment. Thus, investment risk assessment is very important. Central Asia is a key hub connecting the Europe and China. Cooperation between Chinese and Central Asian countries have bilaterally promoted rapid economic development. For Central Asian countries, there are many investment risk points. But in a comprehensive way, the main influencing factors include economic condition, debt ability, social environment, legal system and political factor. In order to improve the investment efficiency, this paper uses analytic hierarchy process to study the investment risks of the five Central Asian countries, and puts forward some countermeasures. Generally speaking, Central Asian countries are generally suitable for overseas investment. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have lower risk level. Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have moderate risk level since infrastructure construction in the two countries is imperfect. The investment risk of Kirghiz Tanzania is slightly higher. In order to reduce investment risks, China should promote RMB internationalization so as to facilitate overseas trade and investment. Strengthening policy communication can consolidate and expand the positive role of multilateral trade agreements. In addition, learning from advanced international experience, China can build a financial insurance system to reduce investment risk.

business is a social endeavour, performed by humans, requiring flexibility and adaptation to a dynamic environment. Efficiency and stability in business processes require standardisation. IT systems, are highly efficient and important tools for business. At the same time, business processes must be capable of adapting to unforeseen circumstances. This requires human awareness, both in making sense of the situation and in finding solutions. The challenge is how to combine the computer world and the human world for the best results in the business world. This requires a distinction between two types of information, strongly coded such as computer data (which allows for automated processing) and weakly coded such as conveyed by natural language (which allows for a much more accurate representation of complex circumstances). The paper will discuss these issues in two parts. The first part is theoretical and analytical, discussing theories relating to the business world, the computer world and the human world. The second part analyses practical issues of information in business and business processes and the role of context awareness in business processes. The paper ends with making a case for considering business information systems in a broader perspective than is common practice, founding business modelling on the human world of perception and action (Merkwelt and Wirkwelt).
