After the COVID-19 breakout, agile teams found themselves in situations that "pure agilists" and textbooks on agile methods had preferred to ignore. Whereas agile mindsets helped them to quickly shift to remote work, mere virtualization of agile practices often proved insufficient, and several challenges emerged. This paper reports on an Action Research project carried out in Lufthansa Systems Poland with the aim of (1) revisiting their ad-hoc actions to adapt to remote work;and (2) elaborating systematic solutions to maintain efficiency in such a setting. With our assistance, the participating teams found measures to mitigate issues posed by the new work environment. They devised an inter-team communication model to improve the effectiveness of information exchange that had declined in the absence of spontaneous, face-to-face communication. Moreover, they employed several other mitigation strategies, including working at least one day per week in the office, keeping webcams on during online meetings, and recapping meetings at the end of a session. Our study largely supports previous findings indicating that Scrum can be effectively applied beyond its comfort zone but also suggests that for adaptations to be successful and comprehensive, they should be developed in a structured manner.

Aggregation of event data is a key operation in process mining for revealing behavioral features of processes for analysis. It has primarily been studied over sequences of events in event logs. The data model of event knowledge graphs enables new analysis questions requiring new forms of aggregation. We focus on analyzing task executions in event knowledge graphs. We show that existing aggregation operations are inadequate and propose new aggregation operations, formulated as query operators over labeled property graphs. We show on the BPIC'17 dataset that the new aggregation operations allow gaining new insights into differences in task executions, actor behavior, and work division.

This paper contributes to ongoing research by providing a selection of design elements to enrich the learning experience for adult learners and to actively involve them in their learning process. To supplement the courses, a web-based interactive mixed-media approach was selected, providing access to the learning content anywhere and anytime. Within this paper we extend previous research and report on experiences with several self-paced e-learning courses on business information systems at a German University. The self-paced e-learning environments presented here were developed in a repetitive scheme, following the same pattern. Astencilwas developed for this pattern to facilitate the design of further e-learning environments. To evaluate the acceptance of the concept within the target group of adult learners, qualitative and quantitative evaluations were conducted in real-life situations. This evaluation confirmed a positive impact on flow, interest, motivation, and perceived usefulness regarding the learning efficiency.

The main proposal of this work is to present an approach based on the formalism of Petri nets in order to describe the time constraints of resources over the activities of Workflow Management Systems. Using Colored Petri nets, it is possible to separate the process model from the resource model and formally define the communication mechanisms between the two models. Each token from the Colored Petri net will then be able to carry the time information of each case, such as the start and end time of each activity the case will have to perform to complete the Workflow process. Such temporal data can be represented as a set of colors from the CPN model and will be used to monitor the execution of the process in order to find the right amount of resources involved in the execution of activities. The simulation of the CPN with time information then allows estimating the percentage of cases that respect the time constraints of the process (deadline delivery dates). In addition with the CPN simulation model proposed in this work for the improvement of resource planning in Workflow Management System, a time constraint propagation mechanism based on the sequent calculus of Linear Logic and on symbolic dates is proposed. Such propagation mechanism allows the instantaneous calculation of the time constraints that each new case must respect when entering the Workflow process.

Digital transformation and resilience are being intensively focused on areas of research in the current period. This is due to the current situation the world is facing because of Covid-19. Many organizations not only failed to grow during this turbulent event but also, to remain functioning in the market which led to their disappearance. On the other hand, organizations that focused their core responsibilities towards being resilient tend to shift from surviving to thriving organizations. Combining both adoptions in literature needs to be more analysed. Therefore, this paper will be focusing on conducting bibliometric analysis on digital transformation and its impact on the resiliency of an organization to conquer the unexpected events such as the pandemic of Covid-19. The bibliometric analysis will be implemented using a software called VOS viewer. It will support in observing the research clusters, emerging topics and leading scholars. From the analysis, information regarding the top countries that contributed to the research, main keywords and number of documents published were defined. Moreover, providing topics for future research was also determined from the analysis.

Process mining bridges the gap between process management and data science by utilizing process execution data to discover and analyse business processes. This data is represented in event logs, where each event contains attributes describing the process instance, the time the event has occurred, and much more. In addition to these generic event attributes, events contain domain-specific event attributes, such as a measurement of blood pressure in a healthcare environment. Taking a close look at those attributes, it turns out that the respective values change during a typical process quite frequently, hence we refer to them as dynamic event attributes. This paper studies change patterns of dynamic event attributes by recurring process activities in a given context. We have applied the technique on two real-world datasets, MIMIC-IV and Sepsis, representing hospital treatment processes, and show that the approach can provide novel insights. The approach is implemented in Python, based on the PM4Py framework.

In recent years, supervised machine learning models have become increasingly important for the advancing digitalization of the manufacturing industry. Reports from research and application show potentials in the use for application scenarios, such as predictive quality or predictive maintenance, that promise flexibility and savings. However, such data-based learning methods require a large training sets of accurately labeled sensor data that represents the manufacturing process in the digital world and allow model to learn corresponding behavioral patterns. Nevertheless, the creation of these data sets cannot be fully automated and requires the knowledge of process experts to interpret the sensor curves. Consequently, the creation of such a data set is time-consuming and expensive for the companies. Existing solutions do not meet the needs of the manufacturing industry as they cannot visualize large data sets, do not support all common sensor data forms and offer little support for efficient labeling of large data volumes. In this paper, we build on our previously presented visual interactive labeling tool Gideon-TS that is designed for handling large data sets of industrial sensor data in multiple modalities (univariate, multivariate, segments or whole time series, with and without timestamps). Gideon-TS also features an approach for semi-automatic labeling that reduces the time needed to label large volumes of data. Based on the requirements of a new use case, we extend the capabilities of our tool by improving the aggregation functionality for visualizing large data queries and by adding support for small time units. We also improve our labeling support system with an active learning component to further accelerate the labeling process. Using selected building blocks of the Semantic Web vision to enhance domain-specific modeling methods is advancing as a new research area. The study at hand aims to contribute to this novel area of research by proposing a Semantic Matching Model that serves as a foundation for matching the purpose of a certain modeling method with the intention of future users. Within this matching model, Linked Open Data is utilized to semantically align user inputs in the form of words or phrases with resources from the Semantic Web, which can then form the basis for semantic enrichment of model instances. An experimental proof-of-concept is provided in the form of a smart city-related implementation scenario. In this scenario, tour models are first matched with relevant information from the Semantic Web and then translated into semantic-rich knowledge graphs that enable the publication of the enriched models.

The blockchain technology offers the possibility to decentralize platforms besides a variety of other possibilities. This may even result in the absence of a central authority that defines its governance. Consequently, a special kind of governance can emerge that takes into account the specifics of this technology. While governance in various research areas, such as corporate or IT governance, has been studied for a long time, the study of blockchain governance has only recently begun. Nevertheless, research on blockchain governance is increasing in recent years and an appropriate way to structure it is needed. Hence, the goal of this study is to identify the current state of research on blockchain governance. For this purpose, a systematic literature review is conducted and as a result, 25 studies were identified which address blockchain governance. Moreover, an adapted version of the IT governance cube is introduced, which allowed to structure the concepts of blockchain governance. Furthermore, it allowed to identify research areas that have obtained little attention yet.

Blockchain governance has emerged as a research topic with the introduction of blockchain technology that allows for collaboration without a centralized actor. This offers a unique opportunity to examine alternative structures for platform governance and to develop a theory around governance structures for disruptive ecosystems. In the past years, we have been working on developing DECENT a domain specific language (DSL) that allows for designing decentralized governance from a conceptual modeling perspective. An important subset of the DSL is the DECENT meta model. In this paper, we explore if we can formalize the DECENT meta model from a mathematical perspective. The formalization of DECENT meta model will contribute to our long-term research goal to develop a graphical visualization of the DECENT meta model by using ADOxx and to work towards computational governance.
