Spreadsheets are widely adopted as "popular databases", where authors shape their solutions interactively. Although spreadsheets are easily adaptable by the author, their informal schemas cannot be automatically interpreted by machines to integrate data across independent spreadsheets. In biology, we observed a significant amount of biodiversity data in spreadsheets treated as isolated entities with different tabular organizations, but with high potential for data articulation. In order to automatically interpret these spreadsheets we exploit construction patterns followed by users in the biodiversity domain. This paper details evidences of such patterns and how they can lead to characterize the nature of a spreadsheet, as well as, its fields in a domain. It combines an automatic analysis of thousands of spreadsheets, collected on the Web, with results from a survey conducted with biologists. We propose a representation model to be used in automatic interpretation systems that captures these patterns.

We have developed a system for identifying the person who posted posts of interest. It calculates the similarity between the posts of interest and the resume of each candidate person and then identifies the resume with the highest similarity as that of the posting person. Identification accuracy was improved by using the posts of persons other than the target person. Evaluation using 30 student volunteers who permitted the use of their resumes and sets of tweets showed that using information from tweets of other persons dramatically improved identification accuracy. Identification accuracy was 0.36 and 0.53 when the number of other persons was 4 and 9, respectively. Those that the target person can be limited in 10 % of the candidates were 0.72 both with 4 and 9 such employees.

The lacks of security transparency and mutual auditability have recently been acknowledged by the industry and research community as one of the most salient security concerns inherent to the cloud model. This paper discusses the topic of security transparency and mutual auditability considering the cloud based services. In particular, the existing state of the art practice and initiatives for promoting more trust within the realm of cloud services are analysed throughout this paper. Finally, we highlight a number of avenues that can be further researched by the secure information system community to ensure the development of cloud systems that seamlessly blend concepts that help capture, not only the resource need of the future cloud service users, but also their need for further visibility on a security matter which responsibility somehow lies in the hand of a third party.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are among the most widely used large-scale information systems. Industry and students in IT-related subjects expect that ERP training is part of the studies during university education. However, traditional teaching materials use somewhat simplified multi-role and cross-organizational processes which do not fully reflect reality in enterprises, for example with respect to role-based permissions or coordination challenges in international organizations. This paper reports on an attempt to extend the SAP ERP GBI case study towards an international dimension. For this purpose an international ERP case study was developed which is presented in the paper with its didactical approach, the technical way how to implement the case study in SAP, and the teaching environment. The work is a joint effort by University of Rostock and Riga Technical University which has a focus on enhancing introductory ERP training for study programs in information technology and business informatics. One of the key features of the international ERP case study is that students of both universities work collaboratively on running business processes in the SAP ERP system. Evaluations suggest that the students appreciate the case study as suitable means to get an insight in real-life challenges connected to ERP use in an international context.

In many legacy software systems the communication between client and server is based on proprietary Ethernet protocols. We consider the case that the implementation and specification of such a protocol is unknown and try to reconstruct the rules of the protocol by observation of the network communication. To this end, we translate TCP/IP-logs to appropriate event logs and apply Petri net based process mining techniques. The results of this contribution are a systematic approach to mine client/server protocols, an according tool chain involving existing tools and new tools, and an evaluation of this approach, using a concrete example from practice.

This paper presents a learning-based approach for the selection of relevant feature categories in the context of information retrieval from microblogs during unexpected disasters. Our information retrieval strategy consists of identifying prominent microblog users who are susceptible to share relevant and exclusive information in a disaster case. To identify these users, we evaluate the effectiveness of the state-of-the-art features characterizing microblog users for the identification of prominent users in a specific context. We experimented with a different sets of feature categories to determine those that discriminate prominent users sets from non-prominent ones interacting in Twitter during the 2014 Herault floods that occurred in France. The achieved results show that on- and off-topical user activities features are the most representative features for identifying prominent users in a disaster context. We also note that SVM outperforms the ANN learning algorithm for this classification context especially when it is trained with additional spatial features.

The role of an Enterprise Architecture model is not limited to a graphical representation of an organization and its dynamics. Rather, it is also a tool for analysis and rational decision making. If firms do not use their enterprise architecture model to aid decision making then they run the risk of underutilizing its true potential. This paper proposes seven easily computable metrics to measure criticality and impact of any element in an Enterprise Architecture model. These metrics will aid managers in decision making and are suitable for board room discussions.

Organizations are leaning towards becoming more process-oriented in order to better serve their customers. An approach that enables achieving such process orientation is business process management (BPM). In this context business process modeling is used to graphically represent business processes. As a result organizations are faced with large collections of process models. The process models are typically organized in a process architecture which comprises a number of levels. The most top level is commonly the process map where all processes of one organization and the relations between them are depicted in a very abstract manner. Whereas there are well-defined languages for modelling the details of singular processes (e. g. BPMN, EPC), such a language for supporting the design of process maps is still missing. As a result, we are faced with a vast variety of process map designs from practice, as practitioners typically rely on their own creativity when undertaking this task. This study addresses this gap by using various methods to develop a language for process map design which will support practitioners to design their process maps in a standardized manner.

In order to provide both guidance and flexibility to users during process execution, recommendation systems have been proposed. Existing recommendation systems mainly focus on offering recommendation according to the process optimization goals (time, cost...). In this paper we offer a new approach that primarily focuses on maximizing the flexibility during execution. This means that by following the recommendations, the user retains maximal flexibility to divert from them later on. This makes it possible to handle (possibly unknown) emerging constraints during execution. The main contribution of this paper is an algorithm that uses a declarative process model to generate a set of imperative process models that can be used to generate recommendations.

During the last few years Enterprise Architecture (EA) has received increasing attention among industry and academia. EA can be defined as a formal description of the current and future state(s) of the organisation, and as a managed changes between these states. By adopting EA, organisations may gain a number of benefits such as better decision making, increased revenues and cost reduction, and alignment of business and IT. Despite of the benefits, EA is not widely adopted in organisations. One of the reasons for this is that the adoption has been found to be difficult. In this paper a model to explain the complex dynamics of EA adoption is introduced. The model of the Resistance during the EA adoption Process (REAP) is based on selected EA literature and on general organisational change and change resistance literature. The model introduces novel relationships between strategic level of EA, resulting organisational changes, and the sources of resistance during the planning and execution phases of the adoption. REAP is validated empirically using data collected from an EA-pilot conducted among 11 Finnish higher education institutions. Validation revealed that most of the resistance faced during the adoption was caused by the lack of EA knowledge. By utilising REAP model, organisations may anticipate and prepare for the organisational change resistance during EA adoption.
