The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem. The Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) is a widely studied variant of the VRP. Although many Decision Support Systems (DSS) have been implemented to support decision makers solve real life problems of the VRP and its variants, these systems do not allow multiple decision makers to collaborate with each other and explore different scenarios on a specific problem. Recent advances in hardware and software have enabled a new generation of tabletop displays that can sense multiple inputs from different users at the same time. In this paper, we present a collaborative spatial DSS for the CVRP on a tabletop display that allows two decision makers to collaborate with each other in order to find the best possible solution. The locations of the customers to serve are added using interactive Google Maps. The DSS extracts the geographical information of the selected locations, finds the distances between them and solves the problem. The proposed DSS has been implemented using Java, TUIO protocol, jsprit and Google Maps.

Nowadays organizations have been pushed to speed up the rate of industrial transformation to high value products and services. The capability to agilely respond to new market demands became a strategic pillar for innovation, and knowledge management could support organizations to achieve that goal. However, such knowledge management approaches tend to be over complex or too academic, with interfaces difficult to manage, even more if cooperative handling is required. Nevertheless, in an ideal framework, both tacit and explicit knowledge management should be addressed to achieve knowledge handling with precise and semantically meaningful definitions. Contributing towards this direction, this paper proposes a framework capable of gathering the knowledge held by domain experts through a widespread wiki look interface, and transforming it into explicit ontologies. This enables to build tools with advanced reasoning capabilities, able to provide contextualized recommendation of resources, facilitating communities' coordination and supporting decision-making activities. A scenario where the framework was successfully applied is provided to show the pertinence of the proposed framework.

Functional size measurement (FSM) gives a measure of a software product and can be used to build objective estimation models for predicting project effort and duration. AUTOSAR is an architecture standard that allows collaboration on basic Electrical and Electronic (E/E) functions while providing a platform to develop new innovative ones. AUTOSAR allows portability and reuse of software functions on different hardware architectures. However, designing software functions in AUTOSAR requires several software allocation decisions which impact on E/E system performance and development costs. In this context, processor load estimation becomes an important task early in software development projects for automotive real-time embedded systems. This paper analyzes the relationship between FSM and ECU processor load in AUTOSAR, and introduces the SYMTA/S tool and an automation prototype tool developed in this study. The findings demonstrate a relationship between FSM and processor load.

Logistics processes are generally agreed-upon, long running propositions between multiple partners, which are specified over Service Level Agreements as constraints to be maintained. However, these constraints can be violated at any time due to various unforeseen events that may stem from the process evolving context, leading the process to end up in unfortunate situations. In this paper, we present our framework that correlates critical business operations together with contextual events in order to predict possible violations prior to their occurrences while proactively generating mitigation countermeasures. In addition we develop a software and experiment it to demonstrate the practical applicability of the framework.

The presented study examines the prevailing espoused values of some of the most successful software organizations and evaluates the extent to which they are promoted in the agile ideology. Its objective is to determine the level of value congruence and whether it could be used to further explain the widespread adoption of agile software development. Its findings reveal a perfect match between the prevailing espoused values of the examined global software leaders and the agile ideology, and suggest that the popularity of the agile methods might be explained through their capability to increase customer value, facilitate collaboration and teamwork, secure continuous improvement and ensure high quality of delivered products and services.

Traditionally, software engineering has been dominated by stand-alone development organizations and collaborations between contractors, integrators and suppliers. In the last decade, the notion of software ecosystems has been established as a new paradigm in software engineering. In its essence it proposes participative engineering across independent development organizations centered on a common technology. This paper reviews the current state-of-the-art and presents a first step towards a typification of successful software ecosystems. We discuss key characteristic of the ecosystem types and present a set of example cases. The characterization reviews and consolidates existing research and discusses variations within the key building block of a software ecosystem. It further enables sharpening the borders of what an ecosystem is (and what not) and how the individual types can be differentiated. Thus, this paper contributes to widening the understanding of software ecosystems and serves to prepare a software ecosystem taxonomy.

Digital technologies persuasively are changing business landscape thus disrupting traditional business models of many sectors, particularly those that engage with information-based products. Organizations struggle to change their business models. Overtime business models become deeply ingrained and represent the dominant logic. This research in progress aims to explore the challenges and success factors in the transformation from traditional to digital business models. The assumed focus is on cognitive dependencies that hinder and enable such transformation given that this transformation involves a fundamental shift of core cognitive assumptions and beliefs held by the management of organizations in terms of value creation and value network.

This paper presents an application of the importance-performance analysis (IPA) to identify opportunities for improving service quality in retail contexts. This work builds previous quality scales prevalent in service management literature. Data was collected for customers' quality expectations and perceptions across two different retail store formats in Portugal: supermarkets and hypermarkets. The results of the study suggested that managerial decisions regarding service in stores should be adjusted to the characteristics of each retail format. Data analysis supported the existence of differences in the IPA, between supermarkets and hypermarkets, notably for quality dimensions related to reliability and personal interaction.
