Enterprise engineering (EE) is emerging as a new discipline to address the design of the enterprise in a holistic way. Although existing knowledge on enterprise design is dispersed and fragmented across different disciplines and approaches, previous research presented an enterprise evolution contextualisation model (EECM) as a representation of the existing EE body of knowledge. Since EECM was developed inductively from existing design/alignment/governance approaches, EECM was also proposed as a representation of the EE domain within the emerging EE discipline. We used a questionnaire to gather the views of EE and enterprise architecture (EA) researchers and practitioners on the EE domain. The main contributions of this article include: (1) the validation results of the proposed boundaries of the EE domain, and (2) a prioritisation of the phenomena of interest and core problems or topics of interest within the EE domain.

Consumers have preferences whose determination is outside the realm of economic rules and values. To be successful in current market conditions, product and service companies need to capture such preferences to provide best-fit support by their information Systems (IS), sometimes by developing entirely new features. In our previous work, we have conceptualized a meta-model for incorporating consumer preferences into the development of IS-Consumer Preference Meta-Model (CPMM). This artifact was developed with the ability to be expanded with new kinds of consumer preferences, as well as their related concepts. Building upon that work, in this study we consider methodological usage of CPMM for the case of Asker's Brand Personality as the primary value framework. The framework brings both the enterprise and the consumer into dialog, with this values co-creation fostering synchronicity between the information systems that are designed as an outgrowth of this process, and the desires of both the consumers and the businesses that they will support. The case example uses the Twitter feed of a major airline, whose tweets are processed using Aaker's 5-factors and Kano's quality framework. The results complete an instantiation of CPMM that generates a feature model reflective of both brand personality and values co-creation.

Agile software development projects depend upon roles located outside Agile teams such as User Experience Designers and Software Architects to support teams. As external specialists' expertise is valuable to Agile teams, further investigation is needed to explore the relationships between Agile teams and external specialists in coordinating external expertise. Through a Grounded Theory study involving 47 Agile practitioners and external specialists, we discovered five factors that Agile teams and external specialists need to consider when coordinating external expertise: Availability, Agile Mindset, Stability, Knowledge Retention and Effective Communication. We present strategies for each factor as a guideline for coordinating external expertise in teams. This study helps Agile teams to manage and utilize external expertise resources effectively.

Designing logical architectures for cloud computing environments can be a complex endeavor, moreover when facing ill-defined contexts or insufficient inputs to requirements elicitation. Existing solutions are no longer enough to embrace challenges brought by complex scenarios and multi-stakeholder realities, as in Ambient Assisted Living ecosystems. As new concepts and cross-domain solutions emerge, these problems are tackled by connecting evermore the world of requirements and architectures, of business and technology, through service-oriented approaches. This due, we propose to extend the Four-Step-Rule-Set (4SRS) method, which has proven successful in generating a proper candidate logical architecture for an information system in ill-defined contexts, to a Service-Oriented Architecture approach for greater business integration, flexibility, and agility, by using the SoaML language. We present the result of a demonstration project, based in an industrial live setting where the 4SRS-SoaML reshaped method was applied, by generating the architectural participants, and respective channels of services and requests.

Clustering is a major data mining technique that groups a set of objects in such a way that objects in the same group are more similar to each other than to those in other groups. Among several types of clustering, density-based clustering algorithms are more efficient in detecting clusters with varied density and different shapes. One of the most important density-based clustering algorithms is DBSCAN. Due to the huge size of generated data by the widespread diffusion of wireless technologies and the complexity of big data analysis, new scalable algorithms for efficiently processing such data are needed. In this chapter we are particularly interested in using traffic data for finding congested areas in a city. For this purpose, we developed a new distributed and efficient strategy of DBSCAN algorithm that uses MapReduce to detect dense areas based on the input parameters. We conducted experiments using real traffic data of a brazilian city, Fortaleza, and compared our approach with the centralized and the MapReduce-based approaches. Our preliminary results confirmed that our approach is scalable and more efficient than the other ones. We also present an incremental version of DBSCAN considering the MapReduce version of it.

A coalition of enterprises wanting to collaborate, and more generally a Collaborative Network of Organizations (CNO), can conceptually be assimilated as a System of Systems (SoS) presenting a number of characteristics to respect all over its life cycle. Interoperability is one of these characteristics (both functional and non-functional), which is from our point of view, essential in order to guarantee the control of the SoS, its behavior and the fulfillment of its mission(s). Moreover, it ensures the reaction of the SoS to deal with some risky situations and with potential local or global deficits during its functioning. In this paper, we propose to determine the relation between the current level of interoperability of the SoS and its functioning whatever may be its situation. A matrix shows how this relation evolves taking into account several characteristics of the SoS, particularly its capacity to respect interoperability requirements (Compatibility, Interoperation, Autonomy and Reversibility) and the so-called analysis perspectives of the SoS: Performance, Integrity and Stability. This relation is requested in order to permit and to guide SoS behavioral simulation currently in development. Thus, a set of indicators is derived and formalized.

Competitiveness and growth on an international market is for many businesses tightly coupled to their ability of quickly implementing new company strategies, business services and products or market entries. Capability management is among the approaches proposed to tackle these challenges. A feature is capturing the context of capability delivery and providing mechanisms for configuring the delivery. Among the work on capability management is the capability-driven design and delivery (CDD) approach that has been proposed by the EU-FP7 project CaaS. The aim of this paper is to contribute to CDD by (i) introducing different strategies for capability modelling, (ii) elaborating on the differences between these strategies, and (iii) contributing to an understanding of what strategy should be used under what preconditions. The paper addresses these aspects by describing the strategies and initial experiences gathered with them.

While affect plays a similar fundamental role in both, electronic and face-to-face negotiations, the expression of emotions in computer-mediated communication differs considerably from face-to-face settings. The aim of this experimental study is to analyze how the systematic use of emoticons - facilitated with software - affects negotiation behavior in alternative computer-mediated negotiation settings. With a 2 x 2 design comparing system-induced emoticon use with a text-only condition in synchronous chat or asynchronous e-mail mode we isolate effects of emoticons in these different communication settings. Results show that emoticons are used in different functions, i.e. mainly to supplement and support text messages and less often to mitigate its content. Furthermore, emoticon support increases the communication of positive affect in asynchronous negotiations while it decreases communication of negative affect and distributive negotiation behavior in synchronous negotiations. These findings propose that advancing communication quality via contextualization of affective information in negotiation support systems is promising.

This paper explores novel forms of technological and digital societal innovation putting the full potential of the Future of Internet into Web-based innovation, web-Entrepreneurship and Internationalization (IEI) of businesses. It introduces an approach to extend and complement existing incubation environments, which are no longer sufficient to deal with the dynamicity of the Web-Entrepreneur. Based on personal and professional relations, and new business models empowered by social media and the Web 2.0, together with a set of interoperable ICT services supporting virtual or agile enterprises, the authors propose a federation of open-source platforms for the to-be born and existing enterprise life-cycle management, instantiating the Unified Digital Enterprise concept. The novel approach ensures full reuse of existing solutions, developing targeted research to support web-entrepreneurship with cooperation between people, businesses, and assets, namely focusing on innovative methods and architectures for competitive intelligence;crowd-based market sensing;idea incubation and simulation;knowledge intensive team building;as well as interoperability to enable internal federation and external platform integration.

In this paper, we focus on demand side management in consumer collectives with community owned renewable energy generation and storage facilities for effective integration of renewable energy with the existing fossil fuel-based power supply system. The collective buys energy as a group through a central coordinator who also decides about the storage and usage of renewable energy produced by the collective. Our objective is to design coordination algorithms to minimize the cost of electricity consumption of the consumer collective while allowing the consumers to make their own consumption decisions based on their private consumption constraints and preferences. Minimizing the cost is not only of interest to the consumers but is also socially desirable because it reduces the consumption at times of peak demand. We develop an iterative coordination algorithm in which the coordinator makes the storage decision and shapes the demands of the consumers by designing a virtual price signal for the agents. We prove that our algorithm converges, and it achieves the optimal solution under realistic conditions. We also present simulation results based on real world consumption data to quantify the performance of our algorithm.
