Agile development methods are increasingly used in large projects, with many development teams. Because acceptance testing can require a large chain of features to be completed, testing is often carried out late in such projects. In this experience report, we describe a large project where 11 development teams delivered a system in 12 three week iterations. We also describe how the focus of test activities was shifted towards the earlier phases of development, what we call "shift left". This involved shifting the focus both within the iterations, and in how the overall testing work was organized. We describe the results of this change, and provide recommendations for how to organize test work in future large-scale development projects.

We present rISk-arounD, an enterprise-wide framework for modeling risks and workarounds in conformity with ISO 9001. The mode of inquiry is the canonical action research (CAR), conducted in a metalworking company. Our contribution suggests that (1) risks and workarounds should be jointly considered to model uncertainty in organizations, (2) participative enterprise modeling can assist process improvement and regulatory compliance, and (3) it is also necessary to address informal "shadow" practices in enterprise models. Moreover, we discuss how to adopt CAR to promote a culture of participative enterprise modeling. This framework can help organizations in their transition to the new 2015 version of ISO 9001, which endorses process oriented approaches and risk-based thinking as top priorities.

There is a growing corporate interest in IT energy efficiency. This will potentially impact also outsourcing decision making. In infrastructure, suppliers are focusing on increasing the IT energy efficient of their solutions. In this research 166 Dutch IT executives indicated the importance of IT energy efficiency in outsourcing decision making for infrastructure services. Is IT energy efficiency a decisive selection criteria in outsourcing decisions? The expectation is that the importance of IT-energy efficiency in outsourcing decisions increase for organization with a larger revenue, with a larger revenue outside the Netherlands, with a larger revenue outside the Europe, with a larger IT spend and larger external spend of organizations. In this research also test the expectation the importance of IT-energy efficiency in outsourcing decision making, is larger for organizations which apply for European tendering than for organizations which don't apply for European tendering. The expectations are tested by the Chi-squared test and the Cochran-Armitage test for trends. In additional to the statistical tests also survey data is qualitatively analysed. The data indicates the importance of IT energy efficiency in outsourcing decision making as 37 % of the organizations of the respondents include IT energy efficiency in outsourcing decision making. In one out of four organizations IT energy efficiency was discriminator in the selection of the infrastructure services supplier.

The main goal of this paper is to describe the integrated approach to product lifecycle management in the context of enterprise information system landscape. Product lifecycle management is a part of the common information area in the enterprise. In this work the analysis of enterprise interoperability problems was presented. To classify such problems and solution approaches we use a framework for enterprise interoperability, described by D. Chen at [1]. The paper suggests reference architecture for product lifecycle management systems based on multi-agent concept. It promotes understanding of the interrelationships of different lifecycle stages for acquiring and manipulating concurrent engineering knowledge.

In software engineering, the standards for functional size measurement require, for accurate measurement results, that the functionality to be measured be fully known. Therefore, in the early phases of software development when there is a lack of details, approximate sizing approaches must be used instead of the standards themselves: such approximate sizing techniques are typically based on the analysis of historical data of the functional size of a number of completed projects within an organization. This paper revisits a fuzzy logic size approximation technique - the EPCU model, and presents an improved version, which lifts a number of constraints on its design, considering the Vogelezang dataset used in the literature to define the Equal Size Bands approximation approach.

A software system managing a smart space takes, among its inputs, models of human behavior;such models are usually difficult to obtain and to validate. The employment of techniques from business process modeling and mining may represent a solution to both the problems, but a set of challenges need to be faced in order to cope with major differences between human activities and business processes. In this work we provide insights about these challenges, and propose further research activities to tackle them.

Contemporary information systems development (ISD) is often conducted in a multi-stakeholder network where parts of the development are offshored. This entails several risks and challenges as inter-organizational boundaries get blurred and relationships become complex. Knowledge transfer (KT) is especially difficult;however, it has not been thoroughly studied from the network's perspective. This interpretive case study investigated why KT between onshore vendor and offshored unit is difficult in the ISD network. Numerous KT challenges were found and organized into four categories. In addition, some root causes were identified, including the nature of knowledge to be transferred, inappropriate systems development methods, the number of middlemen, and political issues. The study contributes to research by confirming insights from the literature on KT and also providing novel issues unique to a networked perspective. For practitioners, this study shows some potential issues to be considered when planning how to organize the outsourcing or offshoring of their systems development.

Classic query expansion approaches are based on the use of two-dimensional co-occurrence matrices. In this paper, we propose the adoption of three-dimensional matrices, where the added dimension is represented by semantic classes (i.e., categories comprising all the terms that share a semantic property) related to the folksonomy extracted from social bookmarking services, such as Delicious and StumbleUpon. The results of an in-depth experimental evaluation performed on real users show that our approach outperforms traditional techniques, so confirming the validity and usefulness of the categorization of the user needs and preferences in semantic classes.

The API for Knowledge Platforms (API4KP) provides a common abstraction interface for discovery, exploration of metadata and querying of different types of knowledge bases. It targets the basic administration services as well as the retrieval and the modification of expressions in machine-readable knowledge representation and reasoning (KRR) languages, such as RDF(S), OWL, RuleML and Common Logic, within heterogeneous and possibly distributed (multi-language, multi-nature) knowledge platforms. This paper introduces typical use cases for API4KP and, based on their ontological requirements, analyses the representational completeness and clarity of its ontological metamodel.
