[Background] Globally, mandates like the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive are shaping environmental, social, and governance accounting (ESGA) trends, which is crucial for enhancing organisational sustainability. Our domain-specific, model-driven technology allows creating adaptive tool support for ESGA, requiring a situational ESGA model as input. However, our experience has shown that organisations are rarely capable of expressing the method they need, so modelling the ESGA method is far from the starting point. [Aim] The objective of this work is to develop methodological support, given that it concerns a non-traditional requirements engineering process. Therefore, we will engineer a situational meta-method that allows configuring a domain-specific, model-driven technology. [Method] To develop this situational meta-method we apply a multi-case study approach and validate the meta-method by means of expert interviews. The situationality in the meta-method is an approach to cope with (a) the variety of situational factors involved in ESGA, and (b) the evolution expected in this domain in the coming years. [Result] The situational meta-method, called ESG4Orgs, has allowed us to create six ESGA methods that each align with the sustainability strategy of the case study organisations. Overall, the ESGA experts concur that ESG4Orgs is deemed understandable and useful. Our work is pertinent to policymakers shaping sustainability reporting legislation, managers seeking to enhance organisational impact, and scientists developing support for sustainability reporting.

In this book chapter, we present a hybrid optimization strategy for tuning the gains of a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) industrial controller analog circuit. This hybrid method consists of a multi-objective genetic algorithm with fuzzy aggregation, which incorporates the user reasoning and allows a better interpretation of results. Analog typical PID controllers are used whose component values are evolved in order to achieve acceptable performance specifications, by optimizing objectives regarding the PID input reference signal specifications such as overshoot, rise time and settling time. We evaluate the hybrid strategy in five control systems and different tuning strategies. The fuzzy-genetic approach obtained, on average, better results with a faster convergence, if compared to traditional approaches.

Transformation competencies are essential for individuals tasked with executing organizational transformations, whom we refer to in this study as transformation managers. The transformation manager plays a crucial role as a mediator to successful organizational transformation. Consequently, it is critical to understand what competencies the transformation manager must possess. In this study, we conducted a systematic literature review of transformation competencies by screening an initial sample of 1,932 articles, resulting in a final sample of 11. We examined the characteristics of the final sample and subsequently interpreted the results. Our findings emphasize the novelty of the topic, given the limited extent of prior research in this domain. We further provide a list of competencies necessary for executing transformations where communication and competency in teamwork and collaboration were identified as the most important competencies for the transformation manager. Finally, we conclude with a comprehensive research agenda and provide future research directions.

Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.

Nowadays, there is a growing connection among individuals promoted by the Internet, which provides opportunities for expressing their viewpoints through social media platforms. However, this expanded freedom of expression has been susceptible to the propagation of hate speech, a phenomenon that can precipitate unlawful conduct and potentially engender detrimental psychological ramifications. In response, computational technology has emerged as a valuable tool for identifying and mitigating hate speech on social media. In this chapter, we used five datasets to detect hate speech related to politics on social media. These datasets encompass the English, Italian, Filipino, German, and Turkish languages. In pursuit of hate speech detection, our study advocates adopting a Pre-Trained Language Model (PTLM) with Cross-Lingual Learning (CLL). We tried to detect hate speech in two languages (English and Italian) using English BERT and Italian BERT. We used Zero-Shot (ZST), Joint Learning (JL), Cascade Learning (CL), JL/CL, and CL/JL+ approaches. These techniques demonstrated efficacy in detecting hate speech. We obtained 94.8% in the F-score metric using English BERT and 93% using Italian BERT.

Current market contexts are pushing leaders to face the need for new business paradigms and to adapt their organisations to an ever-faster changing, dynamic and even unpredictable world. Organisations are requiring new ways of operating and new IT governance approaches that allow them to act quickly while remaining alert to the signals of the environment in which they operate. In this sense, we have focused our work on the design and implementation of an Adaptive Portfolio Management (APM) approach based on complexity and sociotechnical design principles in two Spanish organisations. After some Action-Research cycles, we conducted a situational analysis phase through several focus groups, the results of which are presented in this paper. Our findings show that the sociotechnical approach has brought to light the interrelationship between the governance model and other dimensions such as strategy, operating models, organisational design, people and culture, and technology. One of the key findings of the diagnosis is that, by implementing a governance model devoid of deterministic principles, we can readjust the other dimensions and introduce changes to facilitate the organisation's ability to adapt to dynamic environments.

The increasing frequency of cyberattacks by criminal and state-sponsored actors, has elevated the importance of cyber threat intelligence for organisations. We are interested to understand why practitioner share cyber threat intelligence and the impediments that prevent sharing. This paper addresses practitioners' perceptions of factors that influence cyber threat intelligence sharing. To find out the factors that influence why cyber security practitioners share or don't share. We conducted research interviews with nine cyber security practitioners using a semi-structured, open-ended interview guide which were recorded and transcribed. We also analysed the data using an approach informed by grounded theory. We coded the data, organised the data into themes, and used constant comparison to check our code's consistency and accuracy. Furthermore, we developed memos, from which our theory emerged. Ultimately, our analysis revealed a new phenomenon, which we call Circumstantial Sharing. In circumstantial sharing, practitioners may rigorously discover and mitigate cyber threats and inform top management. However, practitioners my experience pressure from management not to share cyber threat intelligence with external organisations. This is significant because cyber threat intelligence sharing is an important weapon to resist future malicious cyber-attacks. We observed three main impediments to cyber threat intelligence sharing: fear of potential penalties imposed by regulatory authorities, concerns about sharing cyber threat findings with competitors or adversaries and the financial cost of sharing cyber threat intelligence. It is our hypothesis that overcoming the impediments we have observed will facilitate increased cyber threat intelligence sharing and hence help resistance to future cyber-attack.

The degree of individual manipulability of positional aggregation procedures is evaluated for the dynamic voting modelwithin the framework of the two-dimensional Downsian model. In the dynamic voting model, alternatives move in steps toward a central point while agents attempt to manipulate at each step. The share of manipulable profiles, i.e., the Nitzan-Kelly index, is calculated. The manipulability of Plurality, Approval, Inverse Plurality, Borda, Threshold, Nanson, Inverse Borda, Hare, and Coombs aggregation procedures is evaluated at each step of the movement. Computer simulation shows that the Hare, Coombs, and Threshold procedures are among the least manipulable ones.

With the escalating influx of open data daily, the European Commission, as per the European's 2022 Strategic Foresight Report, prioritizes fostering equitable, greener and digital societies. The conversion of conventional services to digital platforms to support citizens in urban areas is now becoming the norm, posing challenges for accessible civic infrastructures. Open data-defined as data that can be freely used, re-used and redistributed by anyoneare expected to bring forth opportunities and societal adjustment challenges. Despite being under investigation for the past two decades, the intersection of Open Data and Smart Cities continues to be a dynamic and developing research area. The progressive implementation of Smart Cities demands the development of new skills and competences. Our systematic literature review uncovers these research gaps highlighting potential areas for development and further study. In addition, this study investigates the legal and policy frameworks regarding Open Data and Open Data for Smart Cities. It explores the impact of Open Data on Smart Cities, as well as the necessary competencies and skills required by data officers to support the implementation of Smart Cities. Furthermore, the research will examine the upskilling and reskilling strategies for data officers in Smart Cities concerning Open Data.

Today green IT is mostly driven by the measurement of CO2e of data centers. However, this is a symptom treatment approach, since the operating parameters of software are defined during build-time. This implies that the consumption during run-time of a software cannot be changed in a wide range. To ensure that enterprise IT can be operated within a higher sustainable setup the software and systems engineering has to consider sustainability aspects during development phase. Furthermore, sustainability is more than measuring and optimizing CO2e of applications - it includes e.g. reuse aspects. Each software component which is reused reduces resource allocation during development and maintenance. IT sustainability step by step becomes a quality characteristic of software. This work presents a more holistic view for sustainable software engineering from an enterprise IT perspective which can be integrated into agile software development especially within DevOps teams.
