information systems development has seen many trends and hypes on the way from unstructured, unplanned scripting-like software development, via early methods like the waterfall model, heavy plan-based methods like the RUP to finally arrive at today's state-of-the-art agile methods like SCRUM. This paper looks at what seems to be a recent trend in (agile) software development: End-User Development (EUD). EUD can be seen both as the logical next step to intensified user integration as proposed in many agile methods as well as a radically new approach to not only interact with but rather empower end-users to (partially) design and create themselves. As in many emerging research areas, EUD lacks clear definitions, concepts and a common understanding of its prospects and limits to both researchers and practitioners. Consequently, this paper aims to address these shortfalls and highlights implications for practice by building a conceptual model of EUD application.

When developing Enterprise Models, it is common to aggregate information from several partial models that describe a fragment of the enterprise. This integration is made by connecting elements from different domain models, and is usually a manual task for two reasons: (1) the criteria for connecting pairs of elements is mostly subjective and requires specialized domain knowledge, and (2) any error may impact the coherency of the whole model. However, manual weaving is a difficult and tedious task, with limited support both from methodologies and tools alike. In this paper, we describe a visual approach for weaving domain models, connecting model elements by using adjacency matrices, and visualizing changes at the moment they are made.

As agile is maturing and becoming more widely adopted, it is important that researchers are aware of the challenges faced by practitioners and organisations. We undertook a thematic analysis of 193 agile challenges collected at a series of agile conferences and events during 2013 and 2014. Participants were mainly practitioners and business representatives along with some academics. The challenges were thematically analysed by separate authors, synthesised, and a list of seven themes and 27 sub-themes was agreed. Themes were Organisation, Sustainability, Culture, Teams, Scale, Value and Claims and Limitations. We compare our findings against previous attempts to identify and categorise agile challenges. While most themes have persisted we found a shift of focus towards sustainability, business engagement and transformation, as well as claims and limitations. We identify areas for further research and a need for innovative methods of conveying academic research to industry and industrial problems to academia.

This paper focuses on group normative procedures and distributional norms that are utilized in functioning groups in the production/generation of normative equilibria, that is, the major basis of social order in groups and communities. The group is an organizational arrangement with some degree of division of labor and characterized by group purposes and goals, a normative order and patterns of interaction and output. We identified three patterns of particular interest: (1) legitimation procedures in groups to resolve conflicts and make collective choices;(2) patterns of just outcomes satisfying the normatively prescribed group outcomes/outputs of a principle of distributive justice's;(3) normative equilibria, which are group patterns of interaction or collective decision that tend to stability because they satisfy or realize one or more key group norms.

business Process Management (BPM) has become a necessity for companies in a highly competitive business environment, as it is a powerful tool to enhance process and service performance. Unfortunately, BPM is primary linked to parameters in larger enterprises;no flexible and effective methods for a practical application are available for specific constraints of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME). As a sequentially result, BPM for SMEs still remains largely atheoretical. Critical success factors in literature are often case-specific or of a generic kind and most of those papers fail to put their research within a theoretical grounded framework. This research focuses on maintaining the strategic flexibility and explores the situation in SMEs as well as the possibilities for an adaptation of an agile BPM within this type of companies. Aim is to propose a model that links business process management, organizational behavior and a framework for an adoption of BPM within this type of companies.

Quality of data in DBpedia depends on underlying information provided in Wikipedia's infoboxes. Various language editions can provide different information about given subject with respect to set of attributes and values of these attributes. Our research question is which language editions provide correct values for each attribute so that data fusion can be carried out. Initial experiments proved that quality of attributes is correlated with the overall quality of the Wikipedia article providing them. Wikipedia offers functionality to assign a quality class to an article but unfortunately majority of articles have not been graded by community or grades are not reliable. In this paper we analyse the features and models that can be used to evaluate the quality of articles, providing foundation for the relative quality assessment of infobox's attributes, with the purpose to improve the quality of DBpedia.

The acceptance and correct use of new paradigms in information systems engineering is highly affected by cognitive dispositions of the individual engineers. In particular, the engineers' intuition - based on their vast experience - may come in the way of accepting the rationale of a new paradigm. Analyzing engineers' reaction to a newly introduced paradigm through the lens of cognitive psychology may highlight potential barriers to the paradigms' successful adoption and use. In this position paper we demonstrate the potential benefit of the above-proposed approach via a case study focusing on the paradigm of inconsistency management. We present our findings, based on in-depth interviews with 20 practitioners, and analyze them using the dual-process theory, highlighting a clear clash between their intuition and the paradigm's rationale.

Today's dynamic business environment presents enterprises that wish to stay competitive with a great challenge. This is further complicated by rapidly advancing IT capabilities and the crucial role that IT plays in most organizations a backbone for realizing visions and goals. The problem of eliminating the gap between business and IT within enterprises, i.e. the problem of business and IT Alignment (BITA), has been acknowledged as a contemporary challenge and actively elaborated by academics and practitioners. One practice that is used to facilitate BITA is Enterprise Modeling (EM), which is considered as a catalyzing practice for capturing, visualizing and analyzing different aspects of enterprises. This paper presents a framework that illustrates the role of EM in the context of BITA and suggests recommendations to deal with EM challenges.

This paper presents preliminary results of ongoing research on the ethics of using social media on a large scale in disaster management. To date social media use by disaster response agencies has been relatively ad-hoc. The Slandail project aims to build a system for harvesting publicly available data from social media and using it in an ethically responsible and appropriate way to enhance the response of emergency services to natural disaster. The ethical framework draws on the traditions of Isaiah Berlin's value pluralism and Giorgio Agamben's State of Exception in its approach. Value pluralism relates to an understanding that every pluralist society is organized around several and different sets of values and traditions. State of Exception theory is concerned with ethical consequences that arise when governments or state agencies arrogate to themselves extra powers in response to extraordinary circumstances, such as a natural disaster. The implications of these ethical approaches for the Slandail system are examined and discussed according to their impact on the various stakeholders: the system end-users, the public at large, the state and the emergency responders themselves. Implications for the technical design and governance of the system are also deduced and evaluated.

A three-level preference (or called strength of preference) ranking structure based on option prioritization is developed within the paradigm of the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution. In a strategic conflict, a decision maker usually controls various courses of actions which are referred to as options. An option-based preference structure could efficiently model preferences under a complex conflict situation. There are three preference representations in a graph model for simple preference (or two-level preference), including Option Weighting, Direct Ranking, and Option Prioritizing in which the Option Prioritizing approach is the most effective. Therefore, the Option Prioritizing approach is extended to three-level preference from the two levels of preference in this paper. This proposed approach is more effective and convenient for modeling preference and is easy to implement into a decision support system. A specific case study is provided to show how three-level preference is calculated using the proposed approach.
