Detecting anomalies is important for identifying inefficiencies, errors, or fraud in business processes. Traditional process mining approaches focus on analyzing 'flattened', sequential, event logs based on a single case notion. However, many real-world process executions exhibit a graph-like structure, where events can be associated with multiple cases. Flattening event logs requires selecting a single case identifier which creates a gap with the real event data and artificially introduces anomalies in the event logs. Object-centric process mining avoids these limitations by allowing events to be related to different cases. This study proposes a novel framework for anomaly detection in business processes that exploits graph neural networks and the enhanced information offered by object-centric process mining. We first reconstruct and represent the process dependencies of the object-centric event logs as attributed graphs and then employ a graph convolutional autoencoder architecture to detect anomalous events. Our results show that our approach provides promising performance in detecting anomalies at the activity type and attributes level, although it struggles to detect anomalies in the temporal order of events.

User interfaces are key to application quality and acceptance. Manual usability evaluation the final stages of development is time consuming and resource intensive. ModelDriven Engineering streamlines development by relying on models and transformations, facilitating early systematic usability evaluation. MERODE, an object-oriented Model Driven Engineering-based analysis methodology, abstracts domain modeling from technological specifications. FENIkS, a MERODE-associated tool, enables co-designing application and user interface models. This paper presents a procedure and tool leveraging FENIkS's presentation model to automatically evaluate usability, shortening development time and enhancing application quality. The tool allows correcting usability issues in user interfaces during the modelling step and feedback is provided on detected errors.

Currently, many financial organizations must undergo a digital transformation. In this study, we investigated a transformation in a Norwegian fintech company with the aim of understanding how the tasks performed by business development can be better aligned with the work of cross-functional development teams. Specifically, we examined the enablers and barriers to coordination between business development and software product development in large-scale agile software development. The organization under study had 25 software product development teams that followed an in-house agile model. We collected data by conducting 13 interviews and collecting various documents. Our findings suggest that having cross-functional fora, having a common understanding of what business development is, and coaching the whole organization to be more agile can improve coordination between business and software development.

business Process Management (BPM) plays a vital role in modern businesses, assisting them in organizing their operational procedures. There are multiple methods to improve these processes. Process optimization often overlooks human resources as crucial parts of business processes. By focusing on individual user preferences process executions can be improved. Approaches pursuing this idea are subsumed under the term human-centric BPM. One way to achieve this kind of optimization is to integrate recommender systems into BPM. Integrated recommender systems consider user preferences during process execution and therefore enhance user experience and thus overall process efficiency. Our proposed framework offers an adaptable solution for integrating arbitrary recommendation strategies. The practicability of the framework is demonstrated through a real-world example.

Extracted event data from information systems often contain a variety of process executions making the data complex and difficult to comprehend. Unlike current research which only identifies the variability over time, we focus on other dimensions that may play a role in the performance of the process. This research addresses the challenge of effectively segmenting cases within operational processes based on continuous features, such as duration of cases, and evaluated risk score of cases, which are often overlooked in traditional process analysis. We present a novel approach employing a sliding window technique combined with the earth mover's distance to detect changes in control flow behavior over continuous dimensions. This approach enables case segmentation, hierarchical merging of similar segments, and pairwise comparison of them, providing a comprehensive perspective on process behavior. We validate our methodology through a real-life case study in collaboration with UWV, the Dutch employee insurance agency, demonstrating its practical applicability. This research contributes to the field by aiding organizations in improving process efficiency, pinpointing abnormal behaviors, and providing valuable inputs for process comparison, and outcome prediction.

Data Warehousing systems have been used to support business Intelligence applications by ingesting operational data and providing analytical data. As data volume, variety, and velocity increased in Big Data contexts, this data architecture needed to be modernised, and Big Data Warehouses emerged as scalable, high-performance, and highly flexible processing systems capable of handling ever-increasing volumes of data. These monolithic techniques, however, create major challenges to data engineering teams in terms of design, development, management, and evolution. Data Mesh emerged as a novel and disruptive concept aimed at data-driven businesses. The research detailed in this paper seeks to characterise Data Mesh readiness by examining the elements that influence the adoption choice using the technology-organization-environment (TOE) paradigm. A survey and a set of interviews were used in a multi-case and multi-method approach. Researchers and data triangulation were implemented to ensure rigour and arrive at a comprehensive understanding of Data Mesh adoption. The obtained results demonstrate the successful adoption of Data Mesh once its benefits are well understood, with increased teams' creativity, data accuracy, data security, data governance and interoperability.

The arrival of ChatGPT has caused a lot of turbulence also in the field of software engineering in the past few months. Little is empirically known about the capabilities of ChatGPT to actually implement a complete system rather than a few code snippets. This paper reports the first-hand experiences from a graduate level student project where a real-life software platform for financial sector was implemented from the scratch by using ChatGPT for all possible software engineering tasks. The main conclusions drawn are as follows: 1) these findings demonstrate the potential for ChatGPT to be integrated into the software engineering workflow, 2) it can be used for creating a base for new components and for dividing coding tasks into smaller pieces, and 3) noticeable enhancements in ChatGPT-4, compared to ChatGPT-3.5, indicate superior working memory and the ability to continue incomplete responses, thereby leading to more coherent and less repetitive dialogues.

In past years, Everything- or X-as-a-Service applications have left their mark on the consumer market, changing the landscape of on-demand delivery of goods and services. In recent years, these applications have also gained traction in an industrial context. However, companies are often unable to provide such a service on their own because they lack the necessary data or capabilities. To address this, companies are coming together to be part of larger Data Ecosystems. Based on a case study in industrial laundry, this paper explores the first steps towards a Laundry-Finish-as-a-Service application, focusing on the information Requirement Concept. Based on Action Design Research as a guiding research process, three small to medium sized enterprises - a manufacturer of textile finishing-machines, a manufacturer of gas burners as well as an industrial laundry - were scientifically accompanied over the course of eight months, with two workshops and several bilateral in-depth sessions. First results are presented and discussed in order to derive design principles for the information Requirement Concept for a XaaS application in emerging data ecosystems.

Nowadays, data analysis is widely used in numerous areas to identify new trends, opportunities, or risks and to improve decision-making. In many cases, however, data analysis is only possible by incorporating specific domain knowledge, which is why domain experts need to be involved. To this end, data mashups are a popular tool for modeling tailored analyses. Yet, with today's data volumes from heterogeneous source systems, it is very difficult to identify beneficial data sources, in particular for explorative data analysis. In this paper, we first define requirements aiming for user-centric analytics, followed by the introduction of SDRank, a deep-learning-based approach to identify beneficial data sources. In an extensive evaluation with three scenarios, we show that this approach offers high robustness concerning the training data used and can reliably identify beneficial data sources, even for previously unknown domains, i.e., transfer learning.

Social networks, as abstract representations of relationships between entities, play a pivotal role in connecting individuals in the digital age. This paper delves into the realm of social network analysis (SNA), a method rooted in graph theory that explores the dynamics of social relationships within communities. One of the key objectives of SNA is to identify the most influential actors within a social network, a task often achieved by calculating various centrality metrics. These metrics, such as degree centrality, allow to quantify the significance and impact of individual nodes within a social network. In the context of marketing and brand promotion, these metrics are particularly relevant and useful. Leveraging social networks for marketing endeavors can enhance brand recognition and foster customer loyalty. When promoting products within social networks, targeting the "most important" members (i.e., those with higher centrality metrics) can exponentially increase the reach and impact of the marketing campaign. In this paper, an approach is suggested for supporting social network marketing by employing binary logistic regression analysis. Logistic regression is a valuable tool in case of models where the dependent variable is dichotomous, and it can be an ideal method for predicting node behavior in the context of a product promotion campaign. By analyzing the actions of the "most important" nodes within social networks, we can predict which nodes are likely to purchase a marketed product based on their interactions and centrality.
