The web browser has become a central workspace for knowledge workers, where they make use of cloud-based applications to access and store their information. While this solution helps reduce the difficulty of syncing information between our numerous devices, it reintroduces and proliferates faults of the desktop, particularly information fragmentation. information fragmentation is an increasingly important issue, as cloudbased applications typically silo their data, resulting in a replication of storage and organization in the absence of a unifying structure. To probe whether knowledge workers encounter information fragmentation and in what manner, we created Contextinator, a tool that assists in coordinating data for web-based projects. Contextinator provides a method for providing the centralized, unifying structure that cloud based storage makes difficult. Our findings contribute insight into the need for, and appropriateness of, projects as a unifying structure for the web. Our results point to two types of projects that we term 'preparatory' and 'opportunistic' based on when and for what reason users create them. We discuss the design of our system, the results of our mixed-method evaluation, and our observations about information fragmentation on the web.

The Internet of Things is going to digitize traditional manufacturing plants. Apart from being as functional and robust as ever, products required to run these plants will need to be smart and connected. They will have software inside. Producing companies monitor their manufacturing excellence related to these products by evaluating manufacturing performance figures such as delivery time and yield. However, for the time being, no figures for the software inside are measured with similar means. Software performance figures have been investigated a lot in software research and in the IT industry. However, as they are software domain-oriented they are difficult to understand for leading managing minds of producing companies. This article demonstrates that it is reasonable to apply manufacturing performance figures to measure software development excellence. This is a valuable element ensuring future business success of producing companies by enabling their managers to control excellence in software development processes.

This paper describes our exploratory approach to enable and sustain the environments-oriented creation of services as common goods. We first discuss the characteristics of services, which allow them to be envisaged as engines of innovation and we study the role of economy of contribution in this innovative development. Second, we present an approach supporting the collaborative innovation-oriented work of actors from multiple domains, which facilitates concretizing services. This is achieved by virtue of "Tiers-Lieu", collaborative environments of service innovation, where services are envisaged as common goods. To illustrate the organization of Tiers-Lieu, we present its conceptual framework, and discuss an example from the domain of mHealth. The paper is concluded with the perspectives of the ongoing work for contributive development within service society.

The paper deals with the fiscal-monetary game. In the game the fiscal and the monetary authorities take decisions on the choice of the optimum strategy from the point of view of realization of their respective economic objectives. A macroeconomic model has been constructed and used to represent the interrelations between, on the one hand, the instruments of fiscal policy and of the monetary policy, and, on the other hand - the economic effects resulting from their application. The best response strategies of the authorities and the Nash equilibrium state are analyzed. The simulation results obtained indicate that in a general case the Nash equilibrium is not Pareto optimal. It means that the policies should be coordinated and that respective negotiations leading to a Pareto-optimal consensus are needed.

The notion of Connected Communities is evolving from widespread use of social media and networks and represents an emerging paradigm for online connectivity, collaboration and information usage where the basis of interaction is between individual human participants with shared motives in a specific context. Traditional BPM practices operate on the basis of a common frame of reference with regard to overall business strategy and the constituent activities, and makes similar assumptions with respect to human participants in those processes. This paper reviews the implications of digital connectedness between human actors in a process-oriented context, surveys potential community archetypes and outlines core characteristics of connected communities and their significance in a broader BPM context.

Nowadays, companies have to report a large number of data sets (e.g., sustainability data) regarding their products to different legal authorities. However, in today's complex supply chains products are the outcome of the collaboration of many companies. To gather the needed data sets, companies have to employ cross-organizational and long-running data collection processes that imply great variability. To support such scenarios, we have designed a lightweight, automated approach for contextual process configuration. That approach can capture the contextual properties of the respective situations and, based on them, automatically configure a process instance accordingly, even without human involvement. Finally, we implemented our approach and started an industrial evaluation.

Process mining techniques enable the discovery and analysis of business processes, identifying opportunities for improvement. However, processes are often comprised of separately managed procedures that have separate log files, impossible to mine in an integrative manner. A preprocessing step that merges log files is quite straightforward when the logs have common case IDs. However, when cases in the different logs have many-to-many relationships among them this is more challenging. In this paper we present an approach for merging event logs which is capable of dealing with all kinds of relationships between logs, one-to-one or many-to-many. The approach matches cases in the logs, using temporal relations and text mining techniques. We have implemented the algorithm and tested it on a comprehensive set of synthetic logs.

Today Enterprise Interoperability is considered as a key factor of successful collaboration. It was identified as a critical need that has to be taken into account all along the lifecycle of a manufactured product. To deal with this problem and to reduce complexity of the different systems of interest used when different companies have to collaborate together, Enterprise Architecture (EA) and Enterprise Modelling (EM) are considered as solutions to facilitate Enterprise Interoperability. Dealing with interoperability issues in the context of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), we have to mention the importance of product data and process standards implementation as interoperability enablers. In order to address the complexity of PLM standards, we propose to apply a model-driven methodology for modelling these standards and the related collaboration scenarios. This approach intends to make standards more comprehensive and to better manage standards evolutions, but also to instantiate and re-use these "generic" standards models to specify specific business collaboration scenarios. This proposal aims also to facilitate the exchange, testing and simulation of standards implementations. In this paper, the focus is on the ISA 95 standard for manufacturing- PLM integration, with an exchange scenario between Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) based on ISA 95 standard.

Enterprise architecture (EA) is a discipline driving change within organizations. The management of EA change is a challenging task for enterprise architects, due to the complex dependencies amongst EA models when evolving towards different alternatives (To-be models). In this paper, we present an approach supporting design decision during EA evolution. The idea is to reason on (To-be) models when evolving to a posterior state. To that end, we rationalize on a set of design decisions that are mapped on a non deterministic finite automaton, which is then evaluated by Markov decision processes. The idea consists of computing EA models valuations while integrating both alternatives rewards and risks metrics. In doing so, we consider risk as a correctness factor to choose the best alternative. Finally, we simulate our risk-based approach using a manufacturing scenario and discuss its usefulness and applicability.

In the current fast-changing and turbulent operational environments, the organizations are continually being pressured by many endogenous and exogenous environmental variables. Many and complex effects occur simultaneously and large volumes of data are available. For this reason, in a process-based organization, when change is demanded (e.g., business processes re-engineering) it is difficult to collect, and interpret, the complete information about the current state of the organization. Therefore, a problem is how to decide which design actions should be enacted with the incomplete information available from the executed business processes. In this context, this paper combines information systems engineering (DEMO business transactions design) and operation research (Markov theories) to contribute to the decision-making body of knowledge. As the result, this solution enforces the organization with resiliency capabilities that are triggered whenever any misalignment occurs. The proposed solution is evaluated through argumentation and by a qualitative comparison between two Markov theories (MDP and POMDP) based on a real-world case study.
