The modernisation of enterprise legacy systems, without compromises in their functionality, is a demanding and time consuming endeavour. To retain the underlying business behaviour during their modernisation, the MARBLE TM framework has been developed for the extraction of business process models from their source code. Building on top of that work, in this paper we propose an integrated approach for transforming the extracted legacy process models into Secure Tropos goal models. Such models facilitate the elicitation of security requirements in a high level of abstraction, which are then incorporated back into the process models of the modernised systems as security features. Therefore high level models can be derived from legacy source code with minimal manual intervention, where security can be elaborated by nontechnical stakeholders in alignment with organisational objectives.

This article focuses on the interoperability feature seen as a specific requirement. Indeed, any complex system (e.g. a train, an organisation or an IT system) need to interact with other systems, thereby forming a heterogeneous environment. All these systems are not necessarily designed to function properly and efficiently with one another, whether from a conceptual, technical, behavioural or organizational standpoint. This paper highlights what seems to be relevant in terms of conceptual definitions and modelling framework whenever a (group) of engineer(s) intends to design what we call here a "natively interoperable system" or, at least, a system maximizing its interoperability capabilities. To proceed, as a first prerequisite, a definition of the concept of interoperability is here proposed for complex system engineering. The second prerequisite consists of establishing the needs of a design team assigned to design such " natively interoperable system". An interface pattern model with sufficient generic, formal and pragmatic qualities is then proposed and illustrated briefly.

This paper is concerned with the development of an agent-based model of population behaviour during a bushfire, to form the basis of a simulator that will be used as a decision-support tool for emergency managers. To ensure the validity of the simulation results, it is essential that the model, and the underlying agent architecture, are as realistic as possible. After providing some context about recent bushfires in Victoria, Australia, we justify the need for a BDI (belief, desire, intention) agent architecture. Although some tools exist to support the integration of such agents in simulations, they are infrequently used. We therefore show how an existing methodology for modelling military tactics can be adapted to this context. The contribution of this paper is two-fold: providing an agent-based model of population behaviour during bushfires;and presenting a methodology that can be used by other model designers in the field of crisis management.

The discipline of enterprise architecture (EA) has become well-established in many organizations and is continuously discussed in academic literature. However, EA's effectiveness beyond IT is limited. The paradigm of architectural thinking aims at reaching the 90 % of an organization that is not related to IT. The paper contrasts the abstract definitions of architectural thinking with empirical case study data. We find that practice has developed implementations of these abstract definitions. However, we also find new characteristics of architectural thinking that have not yet been discussed in literature. Specifically, these are the role of decisions and the role of formal governance mechanisms.

Individuals disclose personal information to complex services via their front-end which interacts with underlying sub-services. The services involve multiple collaborating parties that may share the collected personal data to accurately profile individuals. Even though their data handling practices are declared in their privacy policies, they are still opaque for individuals. Data protection regulations restrain service providers to collect personal data that is strictly necessary for their purposes. The present paper shows the potential of a logic based framework for analyzing privacy of electronic services by applying the approach to two loyalty schemes. Different query types are defined that provide meaningful feedback for both end users and service designers.

Contemporary information systems have to satisfy needs of agile and viable enterprises. They shall include mechanisms of business intelligence, business process management, information technology infrastructure management, and alignment between business and computer systems. The mechanisms for business process handling and computer systems handling are similar, and the mechanisms for their continuous integrated improvement also are similar, therefore the architecture of information systems components that support these processes also can have a measure of similarity if considered at a particular level of abstraction. The paper, focusing on aforementioned similarities, uses St. Alter's work systems paradigm for constructing fractal architecture of information systems that can be used for supporting agile and viable enterprises. The architecture includes predefined frames of processes, a frame for virtual agents, frames of information flows in viable systems, and a frame for information flows in the enterprise architecture that help to derive requirements for introducing continuous changes in information systems.

Even though agile development has been known for many years, it is mainly used in information systems and is not common yet in embedded systems. Despite the mandatory regulations, the companies would like to increase the flexibility by the benefits of agile development. Thus, the idea is creating an Agile Capability Analysis with a subsequent Process Simulation, resulting in appropriate process extensions adhere to mandatory requirements. Because often agile methods require context-specific adaptations, we believe that the up-front investigation which agile practices to integrate into processes entails many benefits, especially in regulated domains.

The key idea of this article is to apply Model-Driven QoS-aware approach to the wireless sensor network that are controlled by the network of "smart" controllers. The sensors are connected via SPI interface to the controllers installed at the oil wells in order to provide smooth data collection and transmission to meet quality of service requirements. One of the new approaches to implement decentralized adaptation technique, in particular, self-organizing transmission system. The self-organizing system control is entirely dependent on the decision taken at the local level, i.e. at the level of system components. However, it is hard to reach global attainability of Quality of Service (QoS) requirements at run-time. In our work, we propose Model-Driven Architecture, the meta-model and its semantics, as the basis for an adaptation framework. The adaptation is realized as an automatic transformation through the policy generation.

Service Based Systems (SBSs), like other software systems, evolve due to changes in both user requirements and execution contexts. Continuous evolution could easily deteriorate the design and reduce the Quality of Service (QoS) of SBSs and may result in poor design solutions, commonly known as SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) antipatterns. SOA antipatterns lead to a reduced maintainability and re-usability of SBSs. It is therefore critical to be able to detect and remove them to ensure the architectural quality of the software during its lifetime. In this paper, we present a novel approach named SOMAD-R (Service Oriented Mining for Antipattern Detection-Refactoring) which allows the refactoring of SOA antipatterns by building on a previously published tool named SOMAD (Service Oriented Mining for Antipattern Detection). SOMAD-R combines planning solving techniques and SOMAD detection algorithms to enable antipatterns driven refactoring of SBSs. As a first step towards refactoring antipatterns for SBSs, we successfully applied SOMAD-R to HomeAutomation, a SCA (Service Component Architecture) application and we removed three antipatterns (out of five) while improving application performance by 32%.
